a good all around build for a rit is the Ritual Lord build.. but before i go into that let me tell you a few things about rits... firstly they are NOT monks. They CANNOT heal as monks can. They are NOT air eles damage though devistating at times... it is most useful to run a support rit than a offensive rit.

Ritual Lord for PvP
Ritual Lord [E]
Boon of Creation
Shelter
Union
Displacement
Soothing
Feast of Souls
Flesh of My Flesh

For PvE
Ritual Lord [E]
Boon of Creation
Shelter
Union
Recupertion
Shadowsong
Feast of Souls
Flesh of my Flesh

there are different variations of the build... but can't go wrong by being a rit lord

Well, you won't regret playing a Rit. They are fun to play.

Don't:

Don't start casting spirits when the fight begins. Cast healing/protective spirit summonings before battles.

Don't confuse yourself with a Monk. Ritualists are different than Monks.

Don't confuse yourself with an Elementalist. Ritualists have only 1 element and no real AoE (like Meteor Storm).

Do's:

When using Flesh of My Flesh to resurrect a fallen party member, use Generious Was Tsungi first. You will initally lose 1/2 of current life (which is transferred to your newly raised party member). GwT will increase your max life and you will heal the 10% sacrifice by the time you finish casting FoMF. Drop the urn and you regain your health back.

Bring Weapon Of Warding and Mend Body and Soul. These are great spells.

Bring Recouperation even at Restoration level 0. +1 health regen for all allies is still good.

Second Profession:

Warrior - Stances, Weapons (with Weapon spells)
Rangers - Spirit Spammer, Pet, Conditions, Stances
Mesmer - Energy Management, Interupter, health degen, stances, hex removal, enchantment removal
Elementalist - More elemental damage, some energy management, wards, increase armor
Assassins - Escaping
Monks - hex removal, more healing, rebirth
Necromancer - MM, health degen, small interupt, some energy management (from Prophecies), enchantment removal

I have a Rit/N, because of MM. I do enjoy some Blood spells every now and again, but depending on my party.

If I'm with a human party, I'm restorer. If I'm henching it, I am a Channeler or MM. If we are lucky enough to have a Monk and a Restoration Ritualist, I can become the MM (parties need Tank, Nuker, MM and 2 Healers).

At least I cover my bases when I'm in a group. I can Channel (sub in for Nuker), Heal (sub in for Healing Monk), Spirit Commune (sub in for Prot Monk), MM (sub in for MM Necro), Interupt Commune (sub in for Mesmer).

Spirits don't always attack the ones you want (like minions).

But the best advise I can give you is, choose each 2nd profession on the Island, and see what seems to work for you. Then pick it (you can change at Senji's Corner I think if you want).

Have fun!

Agreed. While rits are nothing like monks, they are good secondary healers and support. Monks are so rare these days, that much of the time, your group will probably expect you to make your rit a "healing rit."

While monks can heal circles around ritualists, ritualists have some mighty good spells that will make even the best of monks jealous.

Even though rits can't heal as well as monks, don't be afraid to try out the restoration line of spells. Recuperation at lvl 12 is simply amazing in certain situations. Recuperation will drop a spirit that will give ALL allies in the area a +3 health regen. This includes NPCs whom you need to keep alive in missions as well as minions. Unfortunately, the recuperaton spirit does not affect your other spirits, but it is still one of my favorite spells in the game. Just keep in mind that your spirits are not popular among the mobs when you PvE, so always try to cast it behind your wall of allies (ie behind your tanks, minions...etc).

My second favorite spell is Mend Body and Soul. Another restoration spell that (at lvl 12 restoration) heals your teammate for 70 points and removes 1 condition for each spirit in the area. So if you have 2 spirits, you can remove 2 conditions with one cast. VERY NICE! Monks have so many slots to fill these days, you can make their lives easier by taking this spell with and allowing them to focus on something else, like hex removal.

Weapon of Warding is another worthwhile restoration spell that works as a cross between aegis and healing breeze. With Weapon of Warding you can give a tank +4 health regen AND a 50% chance to block attacks. At level 12 restoration, you can make this spell last 10 seconds, making it rival even the greatness of the monk spell healing seed.

The elite spell Ritual lord is probably the best elite for the rit class if you plan to spam lots and lots of spirits. But if you don't, you might want to consider taking weapon of quickening with you. Weapon of quickening gives a +25% increase in the recharge speed of all your spells. Whats more, it can be cast on other players, helping other slow charging spell classes like elementalists nuke areas quicker. Ritual lord is a self only spell, but if you plan to put ALOT of points into your primary, can speed up the spirit recharge timers by more than 80%.

I run as a rit/monk for rebirth. Rebirth is my favorite monk res spell, and being able to have it as a rit, really makes a difference sometimes.

Enjoy your rit. Don't be afraid to try out more of your spells.

I agree Rit lord is good times, I go /me so i can pack Mantra of cancentration. even with 0 in inpiration you get 60 seconds of interruption defense, and getting interrupted is painfull for a Rit lord.

Another important fact about the Ritualist is their extreme range. Area effect Spirits are 2x the common range (aggro circle), the attack types 1.2-1.5x normal, and weapon spells seem to have a truly ludicris range, need to double check but I swear I buffed my tank who was at the very edge of radar.

Be a Rit Lord for PvE when you get it, everyone will love you. Before then, since it's pretty far in that you get the skill, I would try a mix of defensive communing and restoration magic.

this is the build I currently use, I'm just about to start the first mission in the mainland of cantha.

Communing - 12
Restoration Magic - 12
Spawning Power - 12

Mend Body and Soul
Soothing Memories
Generous was blah blah
Shelter
Recuperation
Union
Vengful Weapon
Flesh of my Flesh

nothing fantastic, but it gets the job done...

I advise getting shadow song asap. Unless your avoiding Communing or facing nothing but casters, its about best spirit you can bring.

My advise... get Attuned Was Songkai as soon as you can, one of the best e-management (if not the best) for the ritualist.

You can base a large amount of builds around it also.

True, I might have to play with that too.

Once you get Ritual Lord try taking your spirit spammer Rit into FoW. The spirits make life so much better there. Also the best looking armor in my opinion is the Imperial 15k that you can get in the area after you beat Shiro. It has skulls all over it.

This is what I like to use with my Rit. This is off of the top of my head at work.

Pain
Bloodsong
Dissanace (sp?) Interupts FTW
Shelter
Union
Recuperation
Ritual Lord
Flesh of my Flesh

I brought those skills to FoW and boy did I have fun. Union and Shelter really take the edge off of the damage done by the monsters there. Recuperation helps the monk out a lot.
