Using the search option has been futile do to the high server load, just like every other single time ive tried to use that thing!

Anyways, im not gonna go in to great detail about the good/bad things about having an offical forum, and i know Anet does a good job of looking at the fansites.

But my one simple question is this, how come Guild Wars does not have an offical forum?

Probably because having numerous different forums all of which have different people all of which have different ideas and opinions is more beneficial to them as a creative team then having one group of people. Also I dont think they want to be seen as favoring any group of people.

And hell that would be a lot of work for them, managing a whole range of forums, the mods here do an amazing job, and even they cant handle all the work. I think most of us would much rather them spend time in game then moderating forums.

More employees are needed, more servers are needed, more time is needed, more money is needed, more resources are needed... I think that about says it.

Its a global game, lots of language barriers, and the amount of people would be too much.

This site has anywhere from 2-3 thousand people on at a time. Now imgane a site with 10-15 thousand.

Why should Anet spend money when someone else will

Anet has the money, resources. They are not underhaned either.

By not having an official forum they basically force the community back to the... well community. More ideas from more places basically, which equals a greater fanbase.

That is a fairly valid question because some other NCSoft titles do have officially sponsored forums that they support. I would love to see an official forum where the community interaction and game feedback is on that site and fan sites like this one can devote more time to fan stuff such as build discussions and such.

This is a great site run by over-dedicated under appreciated web programmers and moderators. It would be nice if more bandwidth and effort could be put into game stuff instead of bugs, complaints and developer feedback. It's just my opinion but I think complaints about who gets storage, game feedback and the like are better suited towards an official forum. Just my thoughts though.

Hehe, didn't NCSoft just lay off 70 people who do support? Have you noticed that ArenaNet support is now directed automatically to NCSoft support?

And it is unusual nowdays for a game not to have an official forum. I can think of only 2 recent developers in this genre who had no desire for official forums and that's Microsoft and ArenaNet. The exact reason though is not something that I believe has ever been disclosed.
