District Language
Curse You
Many times throughout the day I will be in (European) English District 1 and see some text pop up in ALL chat or Trade chat that is in German, French, Spanish, or whatever. This just seems odd to me.
Why go to the English district only to yell out in another language? It just seems, well, rude. I know that the English district are the most populated (usually) ones in most Towns and outposts, however that's not a very good excuse. Last time I checked almost noone goes to the German or French districts and tries selling things in English. I doubt that hardly anyone goes to the German district and starts yelling out in French.
So the question I pose is this: What makes people think this will work? Why do they think that yelling out a different laguage from the designated one, will yeild any better outcome than keeping to the the district for that language?

I just knew that when I made this thread that some guy from American servers would misread it and think I was talking about the servers their on.
THIS IN ON EUROPEAN SERVERS. There are designated districts for English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish speaking people. I guess I should have made that fact stand out more.

I often go to the english distrikts, if I can't find a party in german, but I'll speak english there.
I don't mind the english selling so much... well, they tend to have higher prices there, so they won't sell much, but that's not my problem. But it get on my nerves when I get into a group in german distrikt and find out there english. I will then talk german with them, though they don't understand me, cause I think if they go to an other distrikt they should at least have the decenty to speak the language there. It is kinda disrespectful.

Hmm, that's an interesting observation. I have spent some time on European servers, but I haven't found this to be much of a problem. When I go to any non-English districts, I try to converse in the language designated for that district, however poorly I do
Till this day, I am still very proud of myself for completing a trade in German in the German district, wenn ich nur ein bischen Deutsch spreche

There are way too many players in the German districts talking English to you. You hardly see frenchies in there, but English people often come over.
And anyways, the English language is taking over the MMORPGs. I mean, there are people in the German forums using the English skill- and map-names!
Now that's what I call rude (of them).

Hang me if you want but Europe language districts just kill the fun from many players there. English district might be empty but German or other districts have some players. What you do? Go there and talk english? You will be flamed. Most of them understand english but they don't care. Speak german or go away. Some european players just have attitude problems. At the beginning there was only english districts in Europe but these careless people just spammed their own language and local chat was a serious mess of diffrent languages. Why it didn't work in Guild Wars? So many online games are forced english only and it works. Did Anet give up too soon or what?

I used to see this a lot, before I turned off Local Chat for ever. The constant "W.T.S", "w t s" and "w2s" really got to me.

I don't see why this is a problem. Some people in a guild speak only english, others speak german and maybe their english is not very good, so you adapt the language to the current group. In a mixed a group, if you enter an outpost, you'll be transported into the home district of the team leader. So sometimes we end up in a german district even though the team consists of mainly english speakers, or the other way around.
Or you don't find a good group so you look in other districts... cooperative play in GW is actually really easy with multi-language groups since all in-game stuff ( calling targets, ctrl-clicking spells names, right-ctrl-ing... e.g. ) are translated automagically... Most people in europe speak two or more languages, and maybe enjoy learning a language 'for free' by grouping with people from that district...
I think it's really nice that GW makes it so easy to play with many different people from many different places

If you dont know what is being said its no loss to you..... and those with English as a mother tongue may also speak other languages, I might benefit from picking up on a German Player selling something in German in the English districts. I dont see any harm in it

The other thing is that if you are trying to SELL / BUY something you will want to go where your more likley to sell / buy, and if you don't speak English, your options are limited

It's generally dutch or polish you'd hear in english districts , and in fairness their languages aren't catered for. Dutch folk genarally have excellent English as well.

I think I made my views on Bilinguals clear in my second post. I'm fine with them if they at least try to speak the "district's laguage". It's the people who ignore the fact that everyone else is speaking another laguage who are the strange ones.

The Dutch and Blegian people make up a massive proportion of the English Districts and usually speak flawless English. I see your point, It would be exceptionally rude for me to go to the French/German/Spanish districts and speak English hoping for an English response.
