Knights/Ascalon armor... damn.
hobbes344
Updated Warrior Ascalon and Knight's armor sets so that the damage reduction applies only when the corresponding location of the body is struck. The damage reduction applies only to physical damage, and the amount of reduced damage was increased from 2 to 3.

So now that it got nerfed...is a full gladiator set pretty much the best/most flexible set there is?

Or dragon / platemail --- since warriors have lower armors against elemental now

Did somepeople already confirm the change?
I know its in the changelog, but why should I trust them when they said that rubies would be of use, IAS would stack at 133% (fixed) and Knights armor wouldn' t work global (earlier "changes")

1) It's a good thing i got a full set of Knights armor a few weeks back just because I like the look.
2) It's a good thing I didn't sell 3 peices of that armor because I needed inventory space.
3) It's a good thing ANet has added material storage so i can put my crap in storage.
4) It's a good day today. Anyone else having a good day?

Well thankfully only my boots on my Kurz armor needs to be replaced.........
Maybe if I ever get enough money I'll get dreadnaught armor as a backup.
Still, it didn't make sense how wearing boots protected you globally :P

i really like that update. 15k ascalon is by far my favorite armor (regarding looks) and i really enjoy the fact that it has become way more useful.

It isn't a nerf, it's a FIX. Knights and Ascalon (as well as some mesmer gear) are now working as they should done originally. You can no longer abuse this exploit by having one piece of that armour acting like an entire suit of that armour.
Yes it was widely abused, I did it too, but that doesn't make it right and even though it came a bit late for me (scrapped the rest of my knights set a while back thinking it would never get fixed) I'm glad they finally got round to FIXING these armours...
That said I think they could still use a bit of a boost maybe slightly increase the armour level or something dunno, have to compare with other sets.

I just find stupid that the reduction is not applied anymore to the elementary damage... Don't the Els do enough damage? (IMO, with PvE El bosses which deal around 300 damage per attack, you should not lose this reduction...)

Well it means even more firey Noob swords (and all ele dammage weapons) are gonna be the Warrior bashin blades.
now you got the -20 armour and you ignore both the dammage reduction of the shield and the absorb rune. I imagine that would be a fair chunk more than a vamp mod gives (Hell the -5 dammage from shield n rune alone is more than a vamp mod)

What armour do people think is best for a PvE tank now? I would think something with +armour vs ele attacks, I need to check the stats of other armours.

Probably platemail/dragon for most people, but most pugs that I join end up getting all the spellcasters targeting the squishies, so knights/ascalon is a good choice. It all comes down on your style of play really.

I'd be interested to know how they managed to do this "nerf" since they've never done it before. Shields and runes yes, that can be done.
Here's why I think it may only be a "stated nerf" and not an actual one. The armor barrels you attack on Isle of the Nameless only have a single attack point. There is no head, arms or legs to hit. There isn't a single skill in the game that targets one body part. I'm sure in the realm of gaming code it's certainly possible to make this change. Why now? After a year and a half and two million players? Hmmm. Not so sure the armor was nerfed. Only testing will tell for sure.

Since day one, the game already made a hit (from any skill or attack) to have a percentage chance of hitting a specific area. This is random decided by the game AI. But chest has the highest chance of getting hit, feet and arms have the lowest chance. That's why a lot of ppl use Ascalon/Knight footware to get that global reduction. But not anymore. I'm just glad I haven't bought the new 15K Kurzick armor yet.

Pretty sure that certain spells do target areas - Ex. Eruption, Earthquake, Meteor, etc.

Correct. I have seen that post and analysis of the game on this forum as well as others. However, I haven't seen that come about in actual play.
From the time I got my warrior to Droks, I had used the Gladiator's armor. All Pieces except for the Lieutenant's Helm. I always had the superior absorb rune (it was a gift from a friend when I was a newb). When I got to House zu Heltzer, I upgraded to the Kurzick 1.5k. Gladiator's with the Knight's boots. So, for the last two months or so I've been paying close attention to the damage I have been taking from physical attacks. I wanted to see if the Knight's boots actually worked. I honestly have noticed no difference in the amount of damage I take. This is about 7 months of tanking prior to factions release. I don't see the difference between my pre-factions Gladiator's armor and my post factions Kurzick armor with Knight's boots. I also didn't take more damage with the Lieutenant's Helm either.
So, with that in mind. I don't see the actual percentages of hits to various body parts. Keep in mind the barrels on Isle of the Nameless. They have no heads, arms, legs or feet. If there were a percentage of attacks that went to body parts, only the chest hits should register on the barrels. Therefore, there should be a percentage of misses due to that attack algorithm. I'm not sure that exists either. I think all damage goes directly to the character and not a specific body part. It seems to me like that would be a ton of extra code for little real purpose.
This is my observational opinion of course, no testing or anything to back it up; just closing in on 2k hours of play.

What I'd like to know is why did Anet decide to stop the Knights/Ascalon piece from being global now? It was like this in Prophecies and Prophecies is over a year old..
