It's not really a huge nerf, smiting is still very viable. The smiter will just have to actually pay attention now.

I ran AoE smite in Alliance Battles after the nerf and it didn't effect me too much. The energy regen covers the cost of spamming 1 energy skills, so that addition isn't an issue. While using Kepkhet's (20% longer enchantments), AoE lasts for 9.6 seconds (with 10 in protection prayers) which is longer than the new 8 second recharge time. This gives the caster time to re-apply AoE without having to pay 5 energy for it. The only problem is slightly less damage because I can only spam RoF and Guardian when I used to be able to spam RoF, Guardian and AoE to trigger Zealots.

Ok the nerf did absolutely nothing.. I just faced guilds in GvG and they were running smiting and they still had lots of dmg Just instead of 0 energy its 1 energy now -.-

Smiting is still entirely viable, as long as no one learns how to play a domination mesmer competently. Once they do, smiters are absurdly susceptible to shutdown due to their frail energy pool and reliance upon maintaining their enchantments.
