He mentions the chating in game, how the channels are filled with people selling items so no real communication happens there. lol

that's the problem of today's MMORPG...
People don't "roleplay"! Instead of calling themselves warriors and mages, they call themselves tanks and nukers! Cmon..this is medivel fantasy, not science fiction.

I roleplayed in my KQ days. Of course, back then, there was only one role to play. ^_^
I remember when KQ6 came out, I had such a blast... once real "graphics" started coming along, the gaming industry took off. The later KQ games (5 and after) had actual coherent user interfaces, which rocked. When KQ6 came out, the animated swordfight at the end was the coolest thing I had ever seen as far as computers went. I actually replayed through the whole game after that, just so I could get to that ending... then I saved it right before the swordfight so I could watch it again and again. ^_^
Good times.

You don't need a backstory in order to role play. You can start role playing simply by not calling yourself tank/nuker/interrupter
BigTru
Uh... Because there's differant kinds of warriors/elementalists/rangers than just tanks/nukers/interrupters?

The story/quests etc. well let's face it, the majority hit the "skip" button after the first time and don't even bother reading the text of most quests or anything.
The "rpg" is only in the very loosest sense in that you're controlling a character that isn't you and is on a different planet. That's about it. Everything else consists mostly of a) killing things b) running around to get to the next place to kill more things.

8.5 at release, 8.0 now. It's gotten worse.

I says alot from what rpg players want!

Guild Wars Prophecies : 8.5
Guild Wars Factions : 6.8

people dont call themselves warrior/mage/ranger because they dont want to roleplay.

I don't get the lower review for Factions.
Factions
Better Crafters for Armor
Better Crafters for Weapons
8 Classes instead of the 6 for Prophacies
Better learning curve in learning your class on Shing Jea as opposed to Pre Searing
Beautyful Landscapes (sorry I ment INCREADABLE not beautyful)
The list goes on and on
MY ONLY GUESS
The Story plot issue of Factions really put a damper on the ratings.
Community Stress about Elite Missions
Constant W T S spamming by silly people

I think the only reason GW sells a lot is because advertising, if you are willing to risk money in advertising and its a sucess, you get a lot more from it. I think both are rated 8 in my view. maybe 8.5 since gets updated regularly, which shows GW Staff are doing something, *cough* nerf us.
TheMadKingGeorge
i would of gave factions a 6 at best

Matter of fact, they might have gave it some points so 8.5 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Also, some people consider roleplaying ridiculous. i'm one of those people. roleplaying may be in the name of the genre, but it doesn't mean that you have to roleplay as your character. "RPG" means that you control a fictional character through the universe that you've bought.
Roleplaying isn't required to enjoy a game.

If GW was a pay-to-play game and in it's current state, it'd be among the worst MMORPGs out there. As it stands, it's an average MMORPG for people who don't want to pay a monthly fee.
Factions gets a 6 at the most.

Besides GW is not an MMORPG.

Whatever letters they put on the box the reality is it's a competitive action game, really not much different from quake etc. just with fantasy aspect to it. It will not change.
What describes GW more accurately:
"Verily, I seek thy counsel that I might slay the foul Justiciar Hablion, thus ending his reign of terror! I beseech thee brave adventurers to join me!"
or
"lfp need tank"

I agree with Xenrath though, it is an action game as there is almost no adventure/story/role playing to be had in GW. Factions has even less; hence the lower score.
Xenrath
Perhaps I should have clarified. Not literally of course one is a first person shooter, the other is a third person 'shooter' but the concept is similar. e.g. PvP. Killing things (in PvE as well). Quake/UT have minimal/next to no story. The games are about killing. In that sense GW is not very different.
Also, if you want a real role playing game, try Neverwinter Nights. That has proper RPG districts and servers, where the characters and stories actually matter

I like Factions a lot, but compared to my experience with starting with Prophecies it's not the same. Say if I played Factions first and not had Propechies to compare my opinion may differ, but Factions seems to be like your house. The initial purchase and subsequent living time spikes upon purchase, but gradual conformity leads to less love of it. To recapture and continue the love you add to it inside like a living room set that you like to call Sorrow's Furnace. Later you slap a coat of paint on the outside and call it Factions. It's shiny and it's new, but essentially the same house you've been in before. Eventually you bulldoze it and buy a studio apartment and the entire experience repeats itself. Although don't paint the studio apartment. You're under lease you know.

GW is a free mmorpg and it can't even top wow it says alot right there!
I am prety sure that gw will never ever beat wow too. Why things they need to add to the game never will!

As I said it's a matter of opinion. The quests in WoW put me to sleep...

I'm told some of the not-very-massively-but-at-least-multiplayer mods are good, but the original campaign was so horribly bad that I've never felt any urge to find out.

If the reviewers knew that A.nerf nerfs things WEEKLY then it would be a lot lower than 8.5
EDIT: THe next thing to be nerfed will be the attack speed of the axe to make it swing slower than a sword in an attempt to stop everyone from using the eviscerate+executioners combo, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

I really wish people would some day learn what 'nerf' really means. Not every single change in the game is a nerf. For instance, a bugfix, such as removing the axe with two handles, isn't a nerf. Fixing exploits, such as ascending multiple times and getting 50K exp every time, or transporting endgame gear into pre-sear, isn't a nerf. Improving the game, e.g. by updating mob AI so that they don't mindlessly stand in the AoE of firestorms, isn't a nerf. Making something harder, e.g. adding Nightmares to the UW or Heretics to the Shiverpeaks isn't a nerf.
A nerf is when something powerful is made less powerful. Mesmer energy denial was nerfed, as was Protective Bond. Nerfing is not done on a weekly basis.
