I am currently looking into a laptop for school and to play GW on. I went and saw my computer guy today and he told me to stay far away from the NVIDIA graphic cards. Most of them apparently will burn up very quickly. He also said to go with a AMD 64 X2 processor. I am sure the processor will run GW but that specific processor is not offered on the laptop i am looking into. Instead i got the highest processor aviable for the model. It is a AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-40 (2.2GHz/1MB L2 Cache). I am unsure wether or not it will run GW. I am sure it will but i am worried about the amount of lag i might get. Also the video card that is no their is not stated on the GW box. So seeing how i am not good with pick video cards i was hoping for some insight. The current video card taht i have picked out is a 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM). Everything else is up to stats with GW requirements. Thanks for any help.

Your sales guy has no clue. There have been some issues with pre-overclocked 7900GT desktop cards, and nothing else. The 2.2 Turion is fine for GW, but the video card in that lappy is a DOG. I hate to say it, but most game-worthy laptops are going to be pricey. Mid-to-high end laptop video chipsets are rather expensive. You will have to sacrifice a good bit of image quality to play GW on a low-end GPU, and GW isn't even very resource-intensive. Playing more advanced game engines will bring that 200M to its knees.

Minimum for GW I'd say is a mobility x700, which does the job adequately at 1280x800. Any higher and prices start to go up dramatically.
The Turion is basically the same thing as an Opteron 148/A64 3700+ optimized for mobile usages. It's not dual core; those are Turion X2's which frankly get spanked by Intel's Core Duo. It will do GW fine, but know that GW and most modern games for that matter depend more on your video card than they do on the CPU.

Mobility X600 will do the trick too. It's basically a Mobility Radoen 9600 and I played GW on one of those for a long while. Ran very well.
On the NVIDIA side stick with GeForce 6600 and up, but not 7300.

Thanks for that site. It is extremely helpful. I am looking into one of the Radoen 9600 video cards and was wondering if this one is good enough for what i need it for. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ATT=14-102-305 Thanks again for any help.

That one should be fine for gw, just lookin at specs, personally I use nvidia cards with 256 ram :/ That card does look pretty good for the price though.

Is it a laptop you are getting or a desktop machine? Atleast the card you linked will not go into any laptop computer, which you said you were getting in the first post
Laptops come with more or less integrated vidcards, and pretty much all the choise you have is in Intel GMA, nVidia GeForce Go and ATi Mobility Radeon-series.
Intel GMA's are pretty much pure poo, higher end GeForce Go and Mobility chips are pretty game-able (for the new high-end games). The laptop price with one of those higher end chips goes up up and away tho.. Older Go's and Mobility's will run on GW just fine, might have to crop down on AA and some details depending on the model.

Has anyone had any good or bad experiences running GW on a laptop with an NVidia GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache 256 MB video card? I'm considering getting a new laptop with one of those in it...but would like to make sure I'm going to be able to PvP at a halfway decent resolution before I put down that kind of money.

First real help right there! Yes i talked to another computer guy about a video card and he said that it would be a HUGE hassle to find someone to install it and that the whole computer would be taken apart. He also said he has never had a problem with a NVIDA card so he said go with it. The one i am looking at runs 256 so it should work a-okay. Its a 256MB NVIDA GeForce Go 7200. So it should work fine. Thanks all for the help.

Between AMD and Intel laptop CPU's, the Intel Centrino and Core Duo line has the advantage for both performance and battery uptime. This is critical if you dont' want to be anchored to an AC outlet all the time. However, If you're planning to go laptop, Core2 Duo's are less than 2 weeks away from release. These will outperform any current AMD cpu presently out there. Here's a good article on it:

I've been following the press releases since I plan on upgrading my Dell XPS M1710 laptop to a new Core2 Duo once they become available. It came with a 2.0ghz Core Duo, NVidia 7900GTX-512, and 1gig of ram. I can run GW for about 90min on pure battery power at 1920x1200, 60fps solid.
Do you know what screen size you will be shooting for?

hey, i have a x200m ati vid card, 128 DEDICATED <---very important
and it runs gw well. I am soon going to upgrade from 512 ram to 2 gigs...but the 512 ram and 128 card together Auto-Detect at almost all max, and i get a little lag in large battles/town loading up.
it isnt the best, and nowhere the 7800's that people have, but it does work, and not in a crappy sort of way.
