Hi all,
I'm new here, and for the last few weeks I've been really enjoying the community. But it seems more obvious to me all the time that the Guild Wars Guru database server is overloaded and working beyond capacity. I know that an upgrade was supposedly performed a few days ago, but I've still hadfar too many occasions of hitting the "Submit" button on a post and getting the White Screen of Error. So I hit Back, wait a few seconds, and repeat... Half a dozen times. That makes it really difficult to participate in discussion.
I'm not sure what kind of architecture you have on the back end, but it seems clear that whatever's driving MySQL for you needs more juice. If your databases are all on the same server as "www." then perhaps you should get a second server for them. Or split off the forums from everything else and have a "forums." server. (Which would also lighten the load on auctions.) Whatever. You know your system; I don't.
So. Stop me if this has been done before, or talked about and rejected, but.... I think a major upgrade to Guild Wars Guru would be of substantial benefit to the community. I think it's worth a donation drive.
I know I'd give money to the cause. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Ask for support and explain clearly how it will be used, and you'll receive it. (I know this to be true: I've been running a podcast for more than a year now on a donations basis, one that pays its content providers, and I've been in the black since the second month. We have yet to run a single paid ad.)
Just something to think about. You've got one of the best communities I've seen for any game, and they deserve a reliable means to be a community. I have no doubt whatsoever that they're willing to help make it happen.
Suggestion: Second Server Fund Drive

We just split the server 3 days ago actually. HTTP traffic on one, database on the other. I am currently waiting on our server admin to up the sql connections. I'll let you know when that happens.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the information. I knew you'd done an upgrade, but didn't see much detail on it, and with the database errors still happening I assumed it was just to a slightly faster HTTP server or something of the sort.
I still think you'd do well with a donations drive, but if you don't need it, you don't need it. >8-> Best of luck with the new architecture, and I look forward to the boost in stability!

I think they need to upgrade servers.
The website is extremely slow compared to other sites.
