You were all so terribly kind in helping me get scales, I was wondering if someone had any great ideas for getting charcoal.
This best I've mustered is killing Inferno Imps outside Sanctum Cay. But they VERY rarely drop pure charcoal and their glowing hearts seem to have a very low chance of salvaging into it.
Any tips?

I have found the best place is in Sanctum Cay mission, at the start where there are 2 groups of fire imps.

Divinity Coast mission has 3-4 sets of fire imps that net hearts (salvage to coal sometimes) and drop coal. There are a ton of fire imps West out of ToA on the way to kill Rotscale. (Of course the Rotscale groups all just run by...)

That area is called Talmark Wilderness and those are Inferno Imps. Great place for wood, dust, plant fibers, scales, and of course charcoal.

Just kill the Stone-Elementals between Ascalon and the Sanitarium... I used to get at least one Charcoal per run, and you can kill them very, very fast.

If you read the original post that's more or less what I've been doing. However, out of 30 glowing hearts I've received 1 Lump of Charcoal and was really hoping there was an easier way to get charcoal (aside from buying it)

farm the imps faster o_o
barrage/live vicariously/vigorous spirit works pretty well :P and they drop rubies and sapphires, so sell those and buy charcoal :P

It's more the lack of results. Like I say above, 1 Charcoal from 30 hearts is not encouraging.

I don't see why people want charcoal. You don't really need them unless you want to craft Deldrimor Steel ingots. They are almost as useless as spiritwood planks.

Really? I've smacked up those imps in Talmark once or twice. Got a few lumps of charcoal but never seen a ruby/sapphire drop - any indication as to how often you may get such a drop?

Rubies and Sapphires from imps are extremely rare. They do drop them, but I wouldn't hold my breathe trying to get one from them.
