Lock Items in Inventory
grikdog
Many people have had the experience of accidently selling something to a trader they did not mean to either through lag or being too click happy. Hell I even salvaged a couple of things I didn't mean to.
It would be a nice feature if you could toggle a lock on an item in your inventory that prevented you from salvaging or selling an item.

trick:
Put a quest item in front of your items.
Any new items you pick up will be in front of the quest item.
That way you can go to the merchant and press sell all you want and when you get to the quest item, it stops you and protects your items.

i do what Lyra does. I put everything like weapons and armor stuff i dont want to sell to merchant at back of inventory and block it with a luxon totem.

festival masks and candy cane weapons do great for that ^^

I would love to have a user interface allowing me to "check mark" items to never show up in certain windows.

I use the small 5 slot waist bag for selling items to merchant. That way nothing gets sent to merchant by accident.

The problem about the Questitem Method is, that once you switch your weapon sets Guildwars seems to place your Weaponsets into the first bag it can throw things in.
I accidently sold 2 weapons this way, simply because GW placed the Weapon in the midst of the other items i was selling. I'd love an inventory lock check mark. But i somehow doubt it would prevent many a two people from selling their weapons on accident...

I thought you couldn't sell 'weapon-slotted' weapons?

Then I cycle through all 4 weaponsets, making sure none of them stick items in the wrong place. If I change the contents of any weaponset, I do it all over again.

My useable weaponsets are placed in my belt pouch, any runes or or salvaged items are placed in my 10 slot bags and anything that is sellable is left in my backpack. When I get to a merchant the backpack is the only ticked carrier I have available, then I do not sell anything I need

I usually put my salvage kit and my ID kit before the items that I want to keep. This give me 2 chances w/o holding up my inventory space. Cheers!
devils wraths
you can lock your bags and belt pouches and also it comes up with a warning if your going to sell eequipment that you have on

to the OP
have you even wondered about those BIG GREEN CHECK MARKS OVER EACH BAG?
i will let you in on the secret................unchech a bag or all but the backpack and put the stuff you dont want to sell in an unavailable unchecked bag to prevent the merch from buying it.
event itemg like helmets (orange pumpkin helm for me) block and are easy to see as well.
this mistake is your fault for being in a big hurry to save a few seconds

Still, they are workable items, just not as easy as having gwen follow you around pre-sear till you get her tapestry shred.

I have loads of inventory dividers; including Candy Cane Shards, Gwen's Broken Flute, her Pre-Searing Flute, her Tapestry Shred, her Tattered Cape, my Starters Holy Rod and Starters Bow, a starters mask from my old ranger (which happens to be deleted), some ex-guildies boots (don't ask), Luxon Totems, Equipment Requisitions, Imperial Commendations, Shing Jea Monastery Credits, etc.
Perhaps 3-5 dividers per char is too much, but all those items have some kind of sentimental value (well... i just save up the stuff that should be traded in at the quartermasters) to me (sniff... i miss my old ranger), and this way they still are put to a good use.

Also, despite the impression my posts might be giving here, I'm not against the OPs idea. I'm just saying there are already ways to work around it.
Raiin Maker
Easy way to solve the merchant problem, have a 'Buyback' tab, to buy back any item you sold to the merchant (from the last 20 you sold) at the same price you sold it for.
Mournblade
There's nothing quite as effective as patience and diligence then. As long as people CAN make mistakes, they WILL make mistakes. You just take whatever precautions you deem necessary to help you avoid them. :\
