Boyfriends/Girlfriends and the game?
Edge Martinez
The computer game that split me and my exgirlfriend up was Mechwarrior Mercenaries. I loved it, and she wasn't into it. So when I stopped playing it for awhile and spent time with her, I'd be like, "So what would you like to do tonight?" and she'd be like, "I dunno." So then I'd suggest something and she'd be like, "I dunno." It takes a whole bunch to piss me off, but the words 'I dunno' just drives me apeshit. So anyhow, we mutually went our seperate ways after almost 2 years of being together.
What I'm getting at here is that a hobby should never screw up a relationship, especially when both parties know about it in advance. It's all about compatibility, and some people just aren't compatible, even after years of being together. It may take something wierd, like a video game, to demonstrate that lack of compatibility. I know couples who play this game much more than I do and they are perfectly content. I know people who play this game more than I do and their signif. other doesn't and they are perfectly content. It's the 'I dunno' shit that kills you.
Anyhow, back last year about July, I ran into her at the pool hall we both go to, and still being friendly to each other and all, we start talking. She tells me about this game called Guild Wars she's been playing and how she loves it and spends all her time on it. She asks me if I've tried it. By this time, I already have 4 characters through the game and am PvPing regularly and loving it. I told her, "Nah. Not into that kind of stuff."
Who knows? Maybe she reads these forums and is wondering why I lied. All I can say is... "I dunno."

my girlfriend hates this game with a passion. i cant blame her really cause when i start to play the world around me stops to exist. i get totally immerssed and can play for hours and hours if unchecked. we have had some right battles about it. ive tried to get her interested but she seems to think she has to compete with the game for my love. and shes probably right. sad i know but im proud to be a geek.
now a girlfriend who loves and plays the game............

naah, u think there are ppl actually doing that ?
Beat_Go_Stick
Nah, you can't even play Guild Wars if you are under 13.....I mean, how would you check the box if you were 11 years old?

After a few mins I changed districts to avoid being PMed and his let down by telling him "nah sorry I am married" only for me to get the return of "OMG YOU MUST BE OLD!" remark >_<
I've run into many 9yr olds, two 11yr olds and a LOT of 12-15yr olds! >_<! Some of them have worse potty mouths than grown ups

since guildwars was my first online game experience...i seriously thought that all the girls in the game were girls and all the dudes were dudes...
my boyfriend still makes fun of me when i was surprised to find out that even though most of characters in our guilds are female - the players are all dudes on teamspeak

My girlfriend and i both play and have since beta, so it's all good. I do have 2 female characters, but only becuase the male ele and ritualist armor is so damn ugly!

My girlfriend knows I play Guild Wars and she knows some of the stuff I do in the game, but that's about it. I don't mind.

You would think that your GF or BF would let you play GW instead of going shopping or doing something else.
Yagyu_Jyubei
wow I can't believe that so many girls/women are playing GW or just MMORPG in common..I thought grils don't like games..

My wife calls Guild Wars "the other woman".
Of course, she has this hot fling going on with Web Sudoku. I'm certain she spends more hours per day with WS than I do with GW.

To all persons who have a girlfriend (or boyfriend.) I play a game called "Entropia Universe" formerly, Project Entropia.
One of the most famous players there wrote and song called "Gamer Chick" it's pretty good. It's tuned to fit more to the style of play in Project Entropia but it's kinda fun to listen too. You'll understand when you listen to it...
I know the PE players loved it...played for two weeks straight in every major city bar for two weeks straight...anyone who changed the song in the midle had their lives threatened... (figuratively) ^_^

Just to document this, in case somebody comes looking for my badly decomposed, wood-chipped body, my wife absolutely hates the fact that I spend time with this game.
BTW, she'll probably bury me in the back yard, right in the middle....

Ok, this thread has really peeked my interest...
I recently had an awfully bad split from my ex, even having to kick her outta my flat...
anyway, over the last 9 months we've been together, I started to notice that she was a controlling influence in my life, deciding where we went, what we did and who we saw... She was an officer in my guild and pretty much took over leadership of the guild, deciding what was on our guild forum, how our website looked, even going so far as to completely redesign my website from scratch and change the guild cape and guild hall to how she liked it...
what have i learned from this? absolutely nothing as I love guildwars and want whoever i'm with to enjoy my hobbies with me...
will i do it again? more than bloody likely...
