I just bought Prophecies about 2 weeks ago and have been skipping back and forth in between Cantha and Tyria doing missions... One thing strikes me, Tyria & Cantha, although being the 'same' game, have odd differences, a little like the UK and America (UK says 'pavement', U.S. says 'sidewalk'...).

There are still things I've not figured out about Tyria, maybe someone can set me straight...

1. What the hell is with FoW armour? EVERYONE brags about it...isn't it just like Kurzick/Canthan/Luxon 15k armor but a Tyrian equivalent?

2. Am I correct in assuming 'UW' = UnderWorld? Am I also correct in assuming that this is an Elite mission, like that at Cavalon?

3. Is it just me or are people in Tyria generally ruder than the Canthan lot? Maybe the monastry had calming influences on people? Players in Tyria seem to be really into swearing at people and calling them noobs (ok, I'm using noob here - it's to describe myself, to that's OK, and I'm using it light-heartedly)?

4. Are ectos more available in Tyria? They're hardly spoken of in Cantha... It is perhaps Tyria is well farmed and that's the only real way to get them?

5. What does 'L337' mean?

I felt that it was best to sound like one big noob rather than being slightly noobish for the forseeable future! Get everything sorted once and for all! Cheers.

1. an ultra-expensive armor
2.correct, but this is more an elite area than a mission, you have nothing to do except some quests (plus, of course, kill everything)
3.welcome to GW
4.ectos drop in UW and from monsters from UW. you can access UW from cantha too(outpost you get after completing tahnnakai temple), but it is not very popular.
5. 1337 means "leet" (in leet speak) which is = to elite

I get that FoW armor is 'ultra-expensive' - but does it do anything other than turn people into complete and total morons when they are wearing it? Is it any better than, say, Canthan 15k armour?

Well Canthan 15k is not any better than Canthan 1.5k, so no, it has just a unique appearance, and it is hard to get, either requires lots of money or lots of effort.

To complete the post above, FoW armor (or obsidian armor) can be crafted in the Fissure of Woe for 15/45 ectos and shards per piece plus 15K (and the usual tyrian materials for 15k armors). You gotta complete a few quests in FoW before the NPC offer to craft one.

On a side-note, I'd like to say: moron + FoW armor = ebay... Maybe it's not that simple but still.. I like to assume that.

FoW requires 105 ectos (found in UW) and 105 obsidian shard (found in FoW) + some other materials.

Also note that from the desert onwards the game is designed for lvl 20s, until that point Tyria shouldn't be that hard.

At this point carrying rez sigs becomes important as the damage that the enemies do will steadily increase (until you have encounters with the jade armor, or squishiefyers), but you're already capped at max at lvl 20, so you have nothing but change in tactics to help you survive.

The mission Thunderhead Keep is by many considered to be the missions so called 'noobs' will not pass, it's hard and mean (but not at all so difficult as many think). After THK the attitude of the people generally clears, however at this point there are too many Elite skills that randomly spawn in the upcomming mission, many players join a team, only to leave when they got the skills they want. On the up side, these mission can be completed with just 5.

Edit: too slow, shouldnt work and read forums :P

My experience has been the opposite. I find Canthans more uptight, usually because everyone wants to rush and get the timed bonus. But really, there are rude Tyrians and rude Canthans (and friendly ones, too). Best thing to do is develop a list of friends.
