Me and my friend are going to give this a try!

So, I've been thinking, I wanted my friend to join me some MMORPGs, but the monthly fee is too much for him. So I decided me and him should get Guld Wars, I wasn't ever really fond of trying Guild Wars, after reading some reviews and crap. it looks pretty cool. And it'd be cool to play together ^_^

I have some questions though.

My friend had 256 Ram, he won't experience too much lag, will he? I'm guessing not, since this game isn't REALLY an MMORPG.

What are the easiest professions? In order from easiest to hardest, my friend is a total n00b, so I'm guessing an easy class is good for him.

Do I need to get Guild Wars Phoncies(can't remember name) and factions? Or do I just need to get one? If so, which one should I get?

Anyways.

About the RAM, 256 would cause some problems when it comes to loading times. Especially when loading into crowded cities. I would suggest 512 RAM at least in order to keep the loading for each map under three minutes. You will be loading many times throughout this game, and a three minute wait each time is not fun. I used to have that problem until I finally gathered the money together.

Ok, easiest classes to play from Easiest to hardest (some would disagree):

1 - Ranger - You have a bow. You have an arrow. Stay at the back and pluck your arrows at the bad guys and you've got it made.

2 - Necromancer - Revive dead monsters and force them to fight for you, cast spells that reduce your opponent's health. Sounds easy enough?

3 - Elementalist - Much like every other mage in every game. You cast spells, but monsters in this game run away from area of effect spells like firestorm.

4 - Ritualists - Stay back, cast your spirits, aid your party members with those spirits and heal others. Sounds easy, but not as easy as you think. Very fun to play with though!

5 - Warrior - Well, actually, you just go smash things up with your weapon. Sounds easy, and is easy, but being a GOOD warrior is tough when it comes to keeping all the enemy monsters under control.

6 - Assassin - Much like a warrior, the damage output is high. The problem? Well, assassins don't have much armor compared to a warrior and they like to eat energy up like it's chocolate. I don't think this is a good first choice of a character at all o.o

7 - Mesmer - Shutting down your opponent completely. This requires great knowledge of every monster and what's dangerous to you and your party. Very fun to play once you get the hang of the game, but may be tough to handle at first.

8 - Monk - Everybody can heal. But can they heal well? Nope. When it comes to sticky situations, the teams with great monks prevail more often than not. Monking may not be the hardest to play, but in a sense of importance, I definitely feel that they require the most discipline of all the classes. Once the monk runs out of energy, the team will be in a bit of trouble. Hopefully the player can manage their energy well enough to survive =D

Now, if you want to play with the Ritualist or Assassin, it would require you to purchase Factions. Otherwise, I would think that Prophecies is the place to start for all new players. The game gives you a much better learning curve, and there is a lot less stress on money in that game, seeing that you can learn all your skills rather than purchasing them from the skill trainer.

Factions does have it's strong points though, the Alliance Battles are excellent, but the game tends to rush the player through too soon. You start on the island and then you do a few missions, then very quickly, the difficulty increases and new players might not be able to live up to the adversity.

So is Fractions and Phophency two differnt games? Is Fractions like a expansion? If I'm playing Prophency, can I still play with people playing Fractions?

Say it with me now, "Prophecies." Not Phoncies. Not Prophency. The second game is called "Factions." Fractions is math.

Prophecies and Factions are seperate games, meaning that you only need one to play. Like said before, Prophecies is MUCH easier to start the game with. If you beat the game and like it, go for Factions.

BTW, it's "factions", not "fractions". Not a flame and no disrespect intended

They are different "worlds", but connected if you have both games.

If you have just prophecies you have access to the entire landmass of Tyria, and the first 6 original classes only.

If you have just factions you have access to the entire landmass of Cantha, and all 8 of the current char classes.

If you have both, you can link them together with your account, and can travel from one land mass to the other. There are some minimal restrictions though. Not in where you can go, but just that you won't be able to do certain quests/missions on one landmass if you started on the other one. Oh, and for example, if you make a Ritualist of Assassin (new factions classes) you cannot start in Tyria. You have to start them in Cantha. But any of the other 6 classes can be started off on either landmass.

Factions & prophecies can b 2 seperate games but u can link them up so they r 1 game. Buy 1 dont matter which.
i have had guild wars for over a year and still am addicted and play all the time. its the only game i have ever had that u want to play it still after so long.

the order i think that are easest to start the game with would be:
1.Warrior
2.Elementalist
3.Necro
4.Assasin
5.Ritualist
6.Ranger
7.Monk
8.Mesmer

but like Opeth said its a mattter of opinion

but to be good at any class is equally hard
the reason i put rit,ranger,monk,mesmer as harder class is because you need to be alot more aware of you surroundings, but then again this depends on what style you play with that class, ie if you play a ranger just to kil things then it would be easier BUT if you play a ranger for support ie. interupting,cripple etc it is alot harder

If you buy only GW:factions then ele would be alot more difficult, not because you haven't got cool spells, but because of the way the AI responses to those spells.

I would get Prophecies at first. You can always buy Factions later. Have fun you two.

I also recommend buying Prophecies first. It's got a much better learning curve for new players. Also, buying Factions only limits your skill selection, as some skills are Tyria-only.

To OP: Start out with Prophecies. Leveling up is more gradual and the learning curve is much kinder to new players. With factions, it doesn't take long to get tossed from the frying pan into the fire. I also think that Ranger is a good profession to start out with.

Many English lessons going around. Anyways, I would suggest that you definitely get Guild Wars Prophecies first, then after a few months get Guild Wars Factions.

Moreover, everyone seems to be putting elementalists up at the easy end of list. Elementalists are not that easy. To be an elementalists you have to be able to know what type of enemies your facing and what type of magic you should use and how to balance your attributes. For example, you want to be able to have energy so you should put attributes in energy storage and maybe have a skill such Elemental attunement or Fire Attunement. But you also want to have a great amount of attributes in your main category (Fire, Air, Water, Earth), so it's not the easiest profession.

Also in Pve, if you are going to make a Warrior you should make his second profession Monk. The same for rangers in Pve.

As brand new players, I would definitely start with prophecies, its MUCH more gradual and accepting than the extremely harsh -60DP all the time (youll get that later) world of Factions. Prophecies is slower paced, and give a more stable learning curve, Factions is more chaotic (it is kinda geared towards the already acclimated).

As for starting profession, I would start with your basic Warrior, then your secondary profession can be anything you feel is your favorite (when you get to that).

They are easy to learn, and their function stays more or less the same througout the entire game. They may not be as flexible, but they are of course, warriors. It gives you a good taste of the game as well, and an understanding of how the frontlines work for when you eventually make a back line char.

Only neg to warrior i think is that youll prolly build an ego, since all the damage you see is the stuff you do from your perspective

I also have to completly disagree with Opeth11.

In my opinion Basicly any Caster is harder then the rest.

but i would put them in this order.

1 Warrior ,You have 3 weapons but basicly they are kinda the same , you do dmg you make them bleed/knockdown/cripple do more dmg and theyr dead.

2 Elementalist , You have lots of magic spells but since most of them are point and shoot its pretty easy.

3 Ranger ,Yes shooting arrows is pretty easy but then you still remain with the Spirits,Preparations,Pet Which Require you to pay attention to the current situation or how the game works ( for pet)

4 Monk ,Because monk is basicly the person that keeps the rest alive the thing you do is throw yoru magic at the times needed,protection skills and enchantments makes it that you need to know the game before playing this one good.

5 Necromancer , The reason i put necromancer here is because of a few things. There are skills of necro that req life sacfrice knowing when and how to use this is a priority also knowing how to help your teammates or mess up the enemy also makes this one harder

6 Mesmer ,This one is the hardest because it requires you to know almost everything of the game from conditions to recharge time to cost of skill , also what to throw on who,this one is also annoying in the fact that it seems like your doing nothing but in reality the one your anoying is having a really bad time because of your skills.

But then again its all in what you like ,i could say the ranger is the easiest or hardest ( depending on what i want to get across) because i played with a ranger forever, someone else might say the same exact thing about a warrior for the same reason

I never said it was definite that my list was how the game actually was.

And I still doubt that the warrior is the easiest class to play. How often have to seen a warrior completely ruin a game as compared to say, a ranger? Warriors are designed to be in the front line, and have to hold it up. They have to stay alive to the best of their ability to keep the backline up and happy.

Being a warrior is easy. Being a good warrior isn't.
