Hi
Heres the situation:
I've started some new characters in factions. My aim is to get them to the mainland, then hop over to Tryia and continue with Prophecies from Tryia onwards doing the skill quests and missions. My problem is, I don't know whether to get my characters to lvl 20 before I go to Tryia or if I should leave for tryia as soon as possible.
Any sugesstions?

I know the area they wind up in tyria you will be ok in the mid teens but mainland cantha is difficult to negotiate itself and the last mission to get to the mainland is not a low level mission either. leveling in cantha is pretty quick with the high xp reward quests so do what you can or cantha itself will be difficult, imo. then tyria will be a breeze

Well, if you're looking to follow the Prophecies storyline, I would try to be around lvl 12 - 15 when you come over to Lion's Arch. However as greenchylde said, it will likely be difficult to do so with the high exp quest rewards that are Factions. If you still want to do this, I would suggest skipping all non-essential quests in Factions, and not going for Master's on the Canthan missions.
On the other hand, if you wanted the Kryta and Maguuma Jungle missions/quests to be a little easier, you could go ahead and just play normally through the Factions stuff until you get to transfer over.

If you bring a level 20 character to Lion's Arch and begin playing the Prophecies storyline from there, things will be very easy for awhile. The area was designed for characters around level 12.
This may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you like.

I personally would do it the opposite - start in Tyria and then hop over to Factions when you get to Lion's Arch.
The number of skill quests you miss out on by doing Factions first are numerous, since the Factions skill quests end basically once you pick your secondary profession (or shortly thereafter). In Tyria, the skills you get from quests before Lions Arch are plentiful, which can save you quite a pretty penny in the end.
Yes, the leveling up is slower in Tyria, but the content is much more extensive.

if hes already started in this vein i wouldnt suggest starting over just working with what hes got. since hes going to explore both anyway. i did prophecies first cause i had that first but id like to try it the other way myself. there is no right way.

With my first Factions char, I hit the city and said "Ugh! Gag me with a spoon! Like far out gross and urban ugly, man, you know? Which way to Tyria?"
So, I went over to Tyria at level 16 or 17 with an assassin, which few over there had seen before, and I leveled out to 20 having much fun in the process. Then I went back to Cantha and did nearly all the quests in the city and it wasn't so bad knowing I could escape to the Crystal Desert when I wanted to.
