Worth making one?

well i have a necro, its really awesome in both PvP and PvE, and usually when im in a group the necros seems to do much more than the eles, is this a hard class to play or something?
any1 can share any experiences? after the nerft they can actually hurt my warrior..but only once i met an ele who could kill me 1x1 without wards and anti melee stuff, so idk if i should get my lvl 10 ele to higher lvls or not lol, it started really weak and with many energy problems, starting to get decent now
anyway, im all ears

I know this might start a flamewar... if ele can hurt your warrior, that means your warrior is... pretty weak.

It all depends on what you're running. Don't go fire.
Rin
Tenai's Crystal + Crystal Wave + Obsidian Flame = pretty decent damage.
in PvE, start with fire, and then move to earth skills as you progress later in the game.

I can only speak of my PvE experiences, as I don't play PvP.
Keep your Elementalist. If you can get you hands on Glyph of Energy (e), then you'll see great potential. Other people will tell you Ether Renewal or Ether Prodigy are the better elites, its your call.
The higher level you go, the more power you will see the Elementalist has.
Earth Magic is for protection and ignoring armor offense. Fire is for burning and AoE. Air is for armor penetration damage and conditions. Water is for movement (yours and enemies).
I agree with Rin, start off as a Pyro (the best spells you get are fire based), then move into Earth (protection and armor ignoring offense).
You will eventually have little energy problems with the use of glyphs and high energy storage.
Elementalists are fun to use and get into groups quickly.
Have fun and good luck.

i found it being the other way around... the further you go the less damage you do, the more interrupts and enchant stripping you have to struggle with, and the more energy problems you have because of that.

I love the Elementalist class. My ele was my ... 3rd character that I ascended. And I have spent more time on her than any other character.
When I made my Ele, I was convinced that I was going to be Earth from the beginning, do to the lack of them in the game and the fact that they pwn so hard. So I rushed pre-seering, and got run to Yak's Bend... nothing good... got run to Droks... there we go... got run to Sanctum, and then got to Amnoon Oasis. Man, I was lvl 2 in the Desert -_-. Don't rush the game haha. I have been struggling to change her into a fire ele now so I can nuke in FoW and UW... but I really love earth magic. Good to have it unlocked for PvP too.

Yes, there are more enchantment strippers, but upto a certain point I find. Interupts as well, upto a certain point.
I think after you faced Shiro the first time, I found that interupters and enchantment strippers were less than before. Maybe I just wasn't targetted much.
Less damage? Depends on where you go and who you face. Rangers have the most defense against elementalists. Elementalists with wards are next. Then Warriors, then the rest. Earth damage can be made constant, using certain spells like Crystal Wave or Obsidean Flame. I use Glyph of Energy, so my energy isn't consumed so fast and I suffer 0 exhaustion.

Lord Lucifer:
This game isn't about 1v1. That being said, any character can be made to counter another, but of course that will cut down on it's usefullness. You can make the perfect anti iway build, but your team will suffer for it when you don't go against the thing you were designed to fight.
A warrior can easily surive almost anything an ele can throw. Why? Well. They have armor. And they can almost kill you before you cast an orb, then interrupt your spell. Blind? Plague touch or mend condition, countless other possibilities. Conditions are thrown around all the time in pvp.
Now my personal preference between an elementalist and mesmer - mesmer. Why? Well if I'm in the mood to do damage, how could an elementalist possibly satisfy that? Mesmers don't have a single spell that DOESN'T ignore armor, and isn't that earth magic's strength?
Only a mesmer never suffers from exhaustion on their own spells, and has side effects to their damage besides the yellow number. Shatter hex will help your ally live longer, *and* do damage. Shatter enchant will hamper your opponent's ability in some way, *and* do damage.
There are two elementalist skills that are like this, and they are the best ones that elementalists have to offer, for precisely that reason: meteor storm for the knock down, and maelstrom for the interruption.
Mesmers can do both of those.
Mesmers can also drop deep wound. I don't know about you, but I find that to be more useful than blind.

What else do you need? Skills? Type "/dance" that is the only skill you need

i made one 3 days ago, just finished prophecies and factions campaigns, and yah im enjoying it, ty for the replies, air spiking really is some mad dmg ^^
if a warrior doesnt have mend condition its easy to kill any in AB in secounds, fire nuking is also great in PvE (1 SS necro>1 nuker...2 SS necros < 2 nukers)
i will soon try out water and earth magic, but so far im satisfied....just dunno how SO many ppl can play them so badly =/
i honestly tought they were worse than they really are

<-----i love my ele. and what element you go only depends on what your party expects from you. for PVE i normally use fire and meteor showers, cuz it has most of the damage you can do in PVE, but PVP is a completely diffrent story

Phaern Majes
My ele build is primarily aoe, I use it for both pvp and pve. So the amount of damage I deal out depends on how many enemies are surrounding me. I deal more damage immediately than any other char I know. I often can solo kill warriors in the RA, and monks if they don't realize what is hitting them :P Anyways I've had alot of fun with my ele. Worth it in my opinion.
