Actually, wasn't Rodgort supposed to be a famous fire-nuker? Not the Homestar runner dragon? I know Rodgort spelled backwards is Trogdor, but I think you guys are trying to change Guild Wars history. Or maybe I'm just talking out my ***.

Take a look at the picture for Rodgort's Invocation. It looks pretty dragon-ey to me, although it also looks like the Balrog from LOTR.

in my opinion it wont be a strict dragon but a sort of dragon-demon demigod because unlike european and asian mythology african middle eastern mythology has no dragons.

Highly possible, seeing as how nightfall takes place in elonia, where the great serpents live (glint is one of them...well, not for me ). There is a good chance many missions will end with "talk to/kill an oversized dragon."

Hardly. Islamic culture and art includes dragons rather often, in fact. Here's a quote from an article, because I'm too lazy to explain.

"The Persian dragon is one of the varieties of dragon least mentioned (or portrayed) in English-language literature. As represented in Islamic art, 1300-1600 C.E. (A.D.), their appearance and behavior is like a blend of late European dragons and Asian dragons. (In this article, the word "Persian" is used rather than "Iranian," due to the differing territory of the Persian Empire contemporary to the time period in consideration.) The Persian dragon is wingless, with the mane, talons, and long serpentine body characteristic of the Asian dragon. But it also breathes fire, and has an inclination for man-eating so common in European dragon-slaying myths. You could say that it has the body of an Asian dragon with the personality of a Western dragon. However, in some ways they differ from both"

Now that that's out of the way, here are some more specific details about Persian dragons. (I'm using Persia because it seems that that is more the area that Nightfall is themed after, what with how the interviews described that palaces, and the picture of the floating mosque).

Head: A single head. (Worth mentioning, with dragons.)

Wings: No wings.

Horn: On its forehead, a single rugged horn with two primary prongs (also be interpreted as two horns, placed very close together.)

Nose: End of nose may be like that of a horse, crocodile, camel, etc.

Ears: When external ears are shown at all, they're low, small, simple, and pointed, like an Asian dragon's ears.

Jaws: Large, long jaws, usually open to display sharp teeth and tongue, with the upper mandible curved up and back as if flexible.

Fire: Fire breath is shown in nearly all illustrations. It emerges from the mouth, not the nostrils, and is usually wreathed about the tongue. This is also characteristic of late European dragons.

Venom: The texts describe the dragons as having a poisonous bite, poisonous saliva, and/or poisonous internal fluids. Since the texts don't mention the fire-breath shown in the illustrations, the fire might be a symbolic representation of venom.

Proportions: Long, serpentine body, with lengths roughly equal in neck, torso, and tail.

Prominence?: On each leg, between the knee/elbow and the foot, is a peculiar prominence. It's usually oval, and sometimes is encircled by hair. This prominence seems to be unique to the Persian dragon. (Don't know exactly what it is, or what to call it, but it's usually there.)

Movement: Usually shown clambering about in the wildnerness, using its talons and tail to grasp tree branches and outcroppings of stone. Also shown standing on level ground.

Feathers?: The shoulders and hips are ornamented with long, slender, trailing appendages which may be feathers, or vestigial wings. This is also characteristic of Asian dragons.

Hair: Hair seems to always be present, and usually dispersed in this way, but with some variation in which are included in an illustration: along the spine, in tufts at the elbows/knees, along the backs of the limbs, along the lower jaw as a beard, and/or on the head as a mane. Hair also encircles the eyes.

Skin: Most of the body is scaly or leathery, with the ridged underbelly characteristic of both European and Asian dragons.

Tail: Tail-tip is bare, without a spade, mace, or tuft of hair.


Another thing not mentioned, (because the picture shows it better than I could explain it) is that some Persian dragons have been known to have elephant-like trunks. Here.





I can only write all of this and be accurate because from what I've read, Perisan dragons are remarkably consistent as far as dragons go.

Dragon + No Wings = Not a Dragon, GW has them already, they call them drakes.

I'm just telling you what Persian dragons are traditionally like, I'm not saying this is exactly how Anet is going to make it, but it's definitely something to go on, seeing as we don't have anything else.

Actually, in usual medieval fantasy lore, dragons are highly intelligent creatures, while drakes are little more than animals. a dragon with no wings, if it mantained its intelligence and other quirks (ie. collecting treasure) would be a wingless dragon, not a drake. To make a parallel: if you shave a monkey, that won't make him human :P.

Rodgort will finally make his apearance as this kind of Dragon! Rodgort gives u a clue to this creature! (just where did they get the skill Rodgorts Incovation? i burns ppl doesnt it so that equals burnination!)

Maybe the sketch mentioned in earlier articles of the giant worm is the new "dragon boss" of Nightfall.

While in mythology, drakes were a class of dragon, identified by four legs and thicker body than the worm and wyvern classes, and which may or may not have wings. Canthan dragons seem to fit the 'wyvern' classification (more so than they do Asian dragons, in fact) - apart from the turtle dragons, of course, which are an in-game example of a dragon without wings . I can't think of any examples of the Worm class of dragon (snakelike body, possibly with four legs).

Nah, that's Chapter 74, when ANET will have ran out of ideas and made a huge pub-continent, pretty much like Kaining City, but you'll have to Incorruptible Cops poping up instead of Am Fahs, anf gotta get 10K Vodka factions in order to Befriend the Boozers and continue the game.
