Mini-Game Island

Mini-Game Island
I was up one night thinking about a good addition to the game. Something that would be new, original, and wouldn’t be considered something hardcore in the GW gaming community. So I asked a few people about what they thought about a Mini-Game Island or map. To most, it had never crossed their minds, an entirely new map, no bigger than the Balthazar map that would consist of all mini-games, be a fun, easy relaxing area of the game, where gamers could chill out, and get away from all of the missions, quests, and faction grinding. Some would suggest that the area would not be suitable for Guild Wars, simply because Guild Wars is all about, questing and missions, not about fishing and doing other fun activities, because that’s not what the development team has in mind for the game. So please, read over my ideas for what would be of this “mini-game island” if the development team ever took this idea and made it into a reality.
The Island:
The island or, islands, would be run by a group similar to that of the great temple of Balthazar. A group entirely unique in their own armor class, and appearance. The island wouldn’t be big at all, perhaps half the size of the Temple, and available to everyone who plays Guild Wars.
The Content:
The island would consist of 1 main city, or maybe just a place, such as a bar or saloon, very big, places to sit down in, fireworks let off by anyone who wished to pay and plenty of drink to go around! The island itself would be run by an outcast group, such as Pirates or Egyptians. They would run and maintain the place, and walk around assisting those who needed help learning how to play the mini-games. The island itself would be desert or more tropical, both depending on the hosts who ran the island.
The Games:
The games would consist everywhere from dodge-ball, target practice to wacky-a-worm. The games would be VERY REPLAYABLE, and fun, and not result in major competition. How many games, or how hard or in depth, would be entirely the development teams decision, because it would be a free update.
The Currency:
While we have Balthazar faction for the Temple Island, we could have Doubloons for currency on this map of the game, to coincide with the Pirate theme. The Doubloons could be in faction form, or money form, and only used on the island itself. They would be used to purchase anything from beer, to pirate hats, new mini-games, or special features on the island itself.
The Community
Looking back to winters day, Dragon Event, and Halloween, people love Mini-Games. They provide relief from the game itself, and make the game funner, and while the area might get boring, I’m sure, just like all areas in the game, would change, and become funner for everyone. And although this is totally not anywhere close to what Guild Wars stands for, this is what the community (or who I talked to) has been craving since the game came out. A TRUE PLACE TO CHIILL.

Mini games just made my chracter stay afk on circles days on end. IF it's gunna be true mini games don't make it revolve around a title so people will actually play the game than leave their character afk for days just to get a title.
Plus what is with the PIRATE craze, seems almost every thread has a pirate reference.

Okay, I understand you guys have mixed opinions on the whole mini-game part. But if they were to fix these flaws, would you want a mini-game island?

I would like a minigame island or town where people can chill out and be off-topic and out of character.

I definetly agree, perhaps the most lacking feature in typical online games is additional minigames, it seems a 24 hr console games gets totaly original (from the gameplay itself) minigames and puzzles galore, but online games, your playing for years and it's mostly the same routine.
An island with minigames would be good, but I would appreciate if puzzles and unique minigames were added to the regular gameplay as well.
This would be a great addition right after making a trading island with a more functional trade interface.

Minigames are cool.

One of the best ideas I've seen. I would love a mini game island... winning a type of factions (so people wouldn't be trying to sell tickets) would be the smartest corse of action.. and to trade in for nothing too exciting is cool with me. But yes as people have said.. a REAL place to just Chill and have fun

Definitely would like my games of chance back!

But should they make this, then I really hope they don't include titles (like lucky/unlucky for the dragon festival games) for the island, if they do people will come there for the title, not for fun.

As for the pirate craze, my bets are Speak like a Pirate day (sept 19), Pirates of Carribian 2
And ....
Assasins(almost Ninja in apperance) in factions .....
Actually my money is on the last one mentioned above considering the feud
"the Ninjas are present, so Pirates need to get in too" pretty much
(Pirates vs Ninjas are a well known deep routed feud)

Any way of getting someone from Anet to see this? I'm not sure if they look in this area for ideas.

pretty good chance that they have seen it already. Gaile is on these forums quite often, and from my understanding, other devs read in secret.

I really like the idea very much. I was very fond of the gold saucer in final fantasy seven and ever since, have rarely come across anything similar, they also had a seperate currency with increments of this currency being given for performing well in mini games. Also there was (as Im sure many of you are aware) a gladiator style arena where you could win items and skills. This could also be a welcome addition, so long as it was capped.

Mini games seem to be something related to events, which are special and the mini games are part of what makes events in this game so cool.

While I agree with the idea in principal, I would offer the following amendments:
1. Each game would be accessible through an NPC in a player's guild hall.
2. Each NPC and in turn their corresponding game must be purchased by the guild either with gold (like current NPCs) or possibly through donations of faction points. The cost should be relatively high compared to the current NPCs.
3. If a prize is awarded, it's value should be low relative to the time spent acquiring it, and active participation should be required by the mini-game. This would avoid people prize-farming while afk, like in the dragon festival.
4. Multi-player games should incorporate a betting system. For example, each player pays 10 tokens to play a particular game, winner-take-all. Tokens must be purchased by the player, from an NPC before hand. Tokens would then be redeemable for a small amount of cash, faction points, or a consumable item (like Candy canes) that are customized for that player, and thus untradable.
5. As titles go, If these games award points towards a title, it should be to a new one. It should be equally difficult to obtain in comparison to existing titles and not count as a "Max-Title" for the "Kind of a big deal" track.
6. A new "Elite Mini-game", or mini-mission should be incorporated. Perhaps accessible only to those who have achieved at least 1 level on the gamer title track. An excessively difficult game requiring the cooperation of several people to complete, and offering a higher level or reward for the guild as a whole. For instance, if successfully completed, that guild could have access to FoW or the Underworld for 1 week, regardless of who has favor, or perhaps, a wider selection or guild emblems, or the ability to purchase an "Elite-Gamer" guildhall.
