Hi i was hacked, plz help.

hi all i was just playing guild wars the other day like i was most of my days when i was introduced to this awesome game like 2 months ago i played many hours and didnt want anything do to with other games
and i even bought factions to.
but then on this faithfull morning of thursday the 20th when i was playing again i was shocked my the message u have been logged out because someone else has logged in with your account, i freaked
i litteraly couple seconds before recruited a new clansmember and was busy doing business and made some nice profits
ofcourse i tried to log in again still same msg other player is playing on my account
and after a couple tries (its all so clear to me now) the pass was changed
later i found out my email was hacked to and the bastard changed my msn pass to so i lost my email account and all the mates that i had accumulated all over those years
but then it struck me someone hacked my email and used the recover password thingy
well i didnt know really what to do
but i did change my steam password and contact email just to be sure
then i asked my clansmate what to do
and he said send mail to arenanet so i went to their site and red they have ppl on standby 24/7 to help us
well i send a mail with all my details and what happend in this mail but its 2 days later and i still havnt gotten a reply
i send 2 mails actualy first 1 was before i realised my email was hacked also with old email but after i realised this i send a new mail with my other email
but so far no good i avnt gotten any reply whatsoever
even EA answered me sooner when i had a prob with one of their games
well i hope something can be done about it
i lost like couple 100k in cash and some high end greens and alot of high end gold my inventory with shards etc 3 lvl 20 charcters unconditional dmg weapons u name it
and above that the loss of guild wars game and factions game totalling 70 euros
is there any hope i wil get my account back i can totally proof its my game i have receits and the boxes is theer a possibility like the old steam when u was hacked u could cut ur serial from ur booklet send to them and get a new one
well i have learned couple things that i want to share with u guys considering safety most of u will probably know this already but still wanna say it
use different for every account u have online.
use long hard names with lower and upper cases passes mixed with numbers and write em down on a paper or whatever but dont put them in ur pc just write down physicly
and obvious one never give ur passes or info to anyone doesnt matter how much u trust them
also try to keep ur email a secret not showable to others
well if any of u have some advice or information for me about whatever regardng these issues it would be greatly apreciated
cause how it looks now i wont be playing guild wars ever again...

Yes, this is pretty obvious, perhaps you should follow your own advice and be a little more careful next time.

i didnt give out my own pass ofcourse my problem was more that i used the same pass for alot of things
but i still dont understand how my email was hacked cause it was a variation with numbers
well i guess hotmail is just easily hacked
i wont use hotmail ever again for important stuff il use my email provided by my provider or gmail

What happend was someone on guild wars convinced you to open a program and you opend it. The program u opened was a keylogger, the keylogger first obtained all the information he could about ur syste,....pswrd for email and all. these logs are sent back to the violator via ftp he checks ur keystrokes and ur screwed....i highly suggest downloading mcafee enterprise and using the prepetual setting

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your account. It is most likely that he hacked your actual email, and found out your guild wars password from there.

What you should have done, is logged back in (it will kick anyone off your account if you login again) and change your email and password immediately. You would still lose your email to him, but at least your 80+ dollars spent on guild wars would be safe.

Also, go to www.fbi.gov and report him for hacking your email account, he can get up to 20 years in prison for it if they find him.

Get a good anti virus and spyware program and a good firewall program I'd suggest some freeware programs but dont want to post outer links to them on this forum if there not allowed... contact Anet www.guildwars.com/support is the ticket link i think........

Change your email account to your personal provider account.., Like you said use a password for all your accounts numbers / letters and postit note to see password / user .............

ok first off pywolf i know of keyloggers but i didnt use any 3rd party programs for gw so i dont understand how someone could give me a keylogger.
i had antivir at that moment free antivirus but i have since upgraded to norton antivirus 2006 and zonealarm firewall which i had but didnt install out of lazyness
and what is this perpetual setting?

and then shardfenix i tried to log back in but ofcourse what i should have done was changed the pass as soon as possible
but if its possible to change again with mail lol it wouldnt make a diference
cause my mail was also hacked
and i will look at this gov fbi site but what if he doesnt live in usa?

Support should be able to return your account, they will probably ask for the keys you used to set up the account as proof. They will not be able to return anything that has been removed from your account.

You should have received an email from them, acknowledging receipt of your query, quite quickly. Since you haven't had any reply I'd send them another question explaining the problem and that you haven't had any reply yet.

may I take a guess... you were using hotmail as the email address registered with GW?

yes i used crappy shitty most and easiest hacked hotmail email in the world lol

Contrary to American belife, FBI has no juristriction in EU or anywhere else outside the US Border.

But contact your IP provider and Hotmail, they might be able to get the person.

god they will never catch him or her but like i said to my clansmate the day that it happend if i had that guy in my arms that did this i would strangle him thats how pissed i was and still am
it is my favorite game i played like 500 hours in 2 months and in one moment to another i had to go cold turkey plus the fact that i lost all my mates in msn which is the worst i am thankfull i have some emails and some ppl on xfire but i lost a whole lot of mates from all over the world
so if anyone has some direct links where i can file this guy i will but im to stoned to go look now

Try AVG`s free anti-virus program and for the love of God use punctuations. Not only is it proper and easier to read but is also one of the forum rules. I can tolerate a few mistakes here and there as I do them myself but totally ignoring proper punctuations is unforgivable.

Comon. the guy was typing in a torrent of passion and fury. cut him some slack for his punctuation. I too know hwo u feel. I got hacked once. then i immediatley changed my pword and email. the momment i got booted from the game. i also deleted the email that i was using. Oh heres anotehr thing. dont use gaming shops like those where u pay 5 bucks an hour to play a game. chances are, ppl instlaeed keyloggers on those computers and anybody who palys them will get their pword stollen.

Sorry to hear that... always make sure you have an Anti Virus, Anti Spyware and Firewall protection on your computer cause you will never know what can happen when you slip up. Also never use the same passwords for anything... I have everything written down on a piece of paper that I have secured in my safe (Paranoid but hey I think everyone should have a safe in their home).

A.net won't give back the items to you the lost, only drawback if using a third party program, at least you can get ya account back.

I'm sorry for bad my punctuation earlier.
I personally dont believe it was a keylogger, I think it as to do something with my hacked email account.
But ive learned some more stuff regarding passwords and security.
And I got some extra security measures.
One can never be 100% safe, if someone has enought time and computing power they can crack any password eventually.
So best thing is to change regularly in combination with max size passwords.
But im just going to have to wait and see what happens, i hope arenanet can fix it somehow.
