Naming your characters

I was just wondering how you name your charcters, like where does the inspriation for the name come from. I name mine based on the Greek/Latin language and mythos, ie ischuros means bravery(in Greek), and Castor was a Greek hero. So, why do you call your charatcers what they're called?

Partly from other characters I've made in other games, partly from random name generators... I don't put that much thought into it. I want it to sound nice so I look around until it does.

Mainly I think of names I've heard before.

The only name I based on anything in particular is my Assassin, Ryuichi Amano.
From the musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and the artist Yoshitaka Amano (Although I've been asked if I read Get Backers too, which I do). Plus both names fit together.

I use Istari as the first name for all my characters, Istari is from Lord of the Rings, its the elvish word for wizards i think, i used it because its sounds good.
As for the second name a choose something related to the proffesion such as longshot for my ranger, bloodletter for my necromancer and painkiller for a monk and so on

Although sometimes i get stuck for a second name so i put "teh" (to poke fun at people who think they are leet but cant spell "the" right) and then the proffesion after it e.g Istari Teh Monk

I usually use the same last name, and then whatever floats my boat for the first name. Two chars are just random crap though. ^^

I try to put some thought into my names to make them creative, witty, whatever (ex. Silencer of Lambs, A HArmless Stick)

All my PvE chars have 'difficult' names (at least, most people complain about them being impossible to type ), most often from mythology...

Kerena Alphesiboea (Monk): Kerena is a sword from PoP: Warrior Within, and Alphesiboea is a character from a Roman trial (some woman that killed her brothers because those brothers killed her husband, who had an affair)
Megaera Severnaya (Necromancer): Megaera (Greek nymph or something), and Severnaya is a town in Russia (and a level in Unreal 2)
Kechara Semiramis (Warrior): Kechara is a Dutch town, Semiramis was an Egyptian queen
Nephele Adrasteia (Mesmer): both nymphs in Greek mythology
Takyllia Estriyada: Takyllia is from a song by the Black Label Society, and i made Estriyada up

aaaaaand my pvp slot varies... it used be Megaera, then it became Super Retarded Dog until someone stole it (damn you.), forcing me to switch to Super Retarded Frog... and now it's Poop Corn (probably going to change soon)

I used my real name (Anthony Truong) for my first character.

Rildar Gainsborough - Rildar was my Fremmenik name in RuneScape, and Gainsborough is Aerith's last name in Final Fantasy VII.
Vincent Kaylarra - I've always liked the name Vincent for a Necromancer, and I came up with Kaylarra, somehow.

I take common names and change the pronounciation and spelling a bit. For example, I took the name Kelly and changed it to Kahleigh, Jessica became Jahcica, etc. The last name for most of my characters is Galith, a name I came up with in the same manor, and then used for a race mod for Morrowind a while back. (Kahleigh is another morrowind mod that I made)

The only exceptions are Lelu Corbin, that most people should be able to figure out, and my 55 monk named Devout Misanthrope. (because she is a monk who doesn't like to group with others...get it?)

I borrowed the name Chanti Beppu from a book - "The Last Legends of Earth." Dora Explora, is, well, self explanatory. (I got fed up staring at the "name character" screen trying to think of something. But I still love playing her.) Ahndia Beppu & Cora Explora are their sisters, respectively. (So my creative juices don't flow as fast as others )

Olfin Bedwere - from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Tim the Enchanter tells King Arthur to go to the cave and find the last words of Olfin Bedwere. Only time it`s mentioned in the movie.

Olfin Alucard is a necro I just started. Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards. From an old vampire movie I watched as a kid.

I've named most of my chars around my nickname SaGGGan.
For some reason, you can't have a name with a single "G" in it, so S A G G G G A N did not work, so i put an additional article to it.

Some others where inspired by languages and ingame situations in gw.
Schatten Im Dunkeln (=Schadow in the dark) is a good name for an assassin i think.

I usually name my characters the most random thing I can think of, while still haveing it somewhat related to the proffesion.

For Example 2 of my chars names are
The Healing Donut (monk)
The Zombie Muffin (necro)

And if I can't think of anything, I just ask my freinds and they come up with something random for me.

For my ranger, I used my middle name "Kareem" (K A R E E M). Otherwise I use things like name generators, or just humorous things, etc etc..

i just think stuff in my head its pretty easy to get a name, u can also copy names from characters from games,storys etc

I think the g thing is that it was used as a gang symbol or whatever... seems pretty silly to me.

My characters' first names largely come from other games, anime, or movies. Then its just a matter of finding a suitable last name.

Btw, "Reks" comes from the upcoming Final Fantasy 12 game. (Though it's just another way to spell Rex...)

i use the same last name for my warrior and assassin. too bad anet also used it as a last name for one of their henchmen!
