Burning Crusade or Nightfall
Sweetest
Both are coming out around the same time, which do you think will sell more?
TopGun
Burning. And Blizzard is rolling in more dough than the Pillsbury Doughboy. Its pretty insane, the number of people subscribed to World of Warcraft. One of the main draws to Guild Wars for me was that it was a freebie, which means I didn't feel bad when I loaded up another game once a month. WoW was fun, but only because of the persistant, dynamic world that they created. As a Warcraft fan since the 80's (WARCRAFT I! FOUR UNIT ARMIES BABY) I found it amazing to finally look at Stormwind Keep and the now darkened landscape of Azeroth. I've always wanted to go back, but just can't bear to part with the $15 a month. Its a sick amount of money, because I don't play that many video games anyway.
"But the $15 is the cost of a movie! Surely you could give up a movie!"
Yeah, dumbass, but I don't want to give up the girl that I bring to it. In six months, that $15 per month adds up to $90, almost twice the cost of a Guild Wars expansion.
Give me a break, I'd rather drop the extra $40 on beer. And the actual, physical gameplay behind Guild Wars is a lot better... even if the backstory is a little flimsy.
Very flimsy...

Burning Crusade. I know too many anxious WoW players who have been drooling over this for a very long time.
I can't wait for some of them to go back to WoW, they've been a little cooky since they left until Burning Crusade comes out...

Burning crusade of course, it is MASSES game, while GW circles around more the non grinding gamer, thus the first will sell more. Also it is MUST HAVE expansion which will give you new stuff (as every expansion) and will raise the level cap to 70. The last thing means every skill updates, evey items updates, every stuff updates, and if you don't have it, you probably will get kicked in every corner it is avaible. Every casual wow player will have it cuz they must stay competitive.
As for Chapter 3, only people that want it will take it I will be one of them, since I got the feeling it will be one very good chapter, probably best so far (hope I am not wrong).

Over 6 million players and rising >_>
fallot
Burning Crusade /doh. Though I don't know how many people are going to be happy with it, from the previews I've read/advertised features it doesn't sound that great.
Takonic
Depends on you, if ur into rich gameplay, variety, options, adventure go Burning crusade.....im not paying 15$ a month for a game that i play certain times of the week.....GW doesnt need alot of devotion to see the full potential of the game compared to WoW....simply....U got time? WoW, U need filler GW
Zakarr
Burning Crusade will lower the age range in WoW because of that stupid lore rape where Horde can get paladins and Alliance shamans with those new races. Also ego players don't give a sh*t about what is reasonable if they can fortify their insecurity. That expansion will be a nice indicator what kind of people the global player community really have.
bono
I don't think u can compare the two games because they have completely different to very different fan bases. World of Warcraft is designed for virgins and crepy old men, Guild Wars is for everyone else.
WoW has 6 million players, thats an awful lot vigins!

Burning will sell more of course. Starting with the fact that WOW has larger playerbase, you should also take in the fact, that almost 100% of players will buy expansion, simply because of raised level cap of 70 will make it a must. Unlike in GW where there is no level cap raise, wow burning crusade is sure to have lvl 70 required mega uber gear.

But quantity does not = quality!
Yes there are far more WoW players to GW, yes WoW probably makes a shed load more money..
But its like comparing a common ford family car to a more upmarket open-top sports car.. GW fans seem to be more upper class, refined and deeper thinking people.
Oh, and dont forget that the original warcraft games was an RTS, which is basically a PvP Intensive game.. WoW is quite a different game.

snipe u down
BURNING FTW. only reason y i like guildwars is for the no payment. but if all of a sudden u didnt have to pay for WoW id quit GW. WoW is more diverse and a much better game. but since i hate paying gw will have to do. but when i heard of the dervish i cant wait for nightfall(better be like prophecies)

Not a WoW player myself, so no Burning Crusade for me. I don't like paying monthly fees and I don't like grind. Besides, GW is taking up all my gaming time already anyway.
Not sure if I'm going to get Nightfall either, haven't finished Factions yet. I think I'll wait and see what Nightfall is all about before making the decision to buy or not.

Burning will sell way better, WoW has better marketing, better immersion and better pve.
Both games are great IMO. If WoW wouldn't have monthly fees, I'd play GW for pvp and WoW for pve. But for 15$/month wow pve is just too boring after a while.

WoW will sale more but still suck becuase its Blizzard. I use to respect Blizzard, but after all the BS they did with Diablo and stuff. I lost all of it. Not to mention the fact that the guys that did diablo are the guys that made Guildwars(the modelers that is) Also the fact that WoW has a monthly fee, sorry but i will switck with guildwars. But really you can't compare the two right now because we really have no idea what Nightfall will come with.
So the bottem line is. I make mine Guildwars:Nightfall

having what i said earlier, GW is more PvP oriented..and no WoW's PvP is not pvp, its a war...i hate wars, i prefer controlled environments where teamwork is key not running around a slaughtering ppl is teamwork....really WoW has waaaaaaay more PvE content and depth while GW's PvP far far surpasses WoW

I gave up on WoW after I hit 60 with my 2nd or 3rd toon. It wasn't fun after that and too many people took it way to seriously. Besides the fact it's WoW or everything else in your life when you hit 60. Bleh, I've got my fiancé that I haven' seen in 4 months moving stateside and a job. Give me the casual goodness of GW!

Burning Crusade will probably release closer to GW chapters 4 or 5. I don't know how much of a competitor it will be with Nightfall. I seriously expect Burning Crusade to do terrible in sales. I know far too many people that are fed up with WoW myself being one of them. I'll go out on a limb and say whatever GW chapter goes up against WoW:BC for it's release will do better in sales, because I think GW is a better game, and eventually the masses will catch on.
Domino
World of Warcraft has so many features, races, content, and things to do that it's amazing. And I hate to say it, but WoW had FAR less idiots than GW has. However, I found myself losing interest in it for several reasons
WoW rewards time spent. If you grind more, you'll beat out someone who didn't grind as much in PvP. It doesn't matter how skilled you are, if you aren't willing to grind for the ultra equipment, you will never be able to beat someone that does. It's all about the equipment, and the numbers. Grind grind grind, and then grind some more. Kill 10000 lobsters, and collect 5000 bug eyes... it was just overwhelming, and as a college student with a job, I simply don't have the kind of time to grind all day long.
WoW's monthly fee is annoying. I don't want to have to worry about whether "I'm getting my money's worth" or not. Call me old-fashioned, but I grew up in the 80's and early 90's where when you bought a game, that was that. I find it hard to justify a monthly fee, especially for a game, unless I'm getting something REALLY significant (So far I've yet to find a game significant enough to be worth a recurring monthly fee)... In WoW I always felt like I should be doing something because I was, after all, paying for this experience. I'd much rather have the freedom to goof around with guildies in GW and not worry about "wasting money".
On top of that, I found WoW's style way to kiddy for my taste. At least Guild Wars has some semi-realism in it's character models and monsters. WoW's artistic style is too over the top, everything is exaggerated... from textures, to the color of armor, to the size of everything.
Right now, Guild Wars satisfies my online gaming requirements. However, Neverwinter Nights 2 seems to be eyeing for the position, so let's hope that Guild Wars continues to be fun and immersive.

Nightfall.
I don't play WoW and it's gameplay does not interest me. All it do is put what other MMORPG have together in one game. If you played through as many beta tests as I do, you'll think WoW sucks too.
Other than because I hate WoW...
From the description of what Nightfall have (from xMikex's post, thx), Nightfall have a lot to promise. The customizable henchmen and a 1v1 with NPC? Well, I really wished it could be 1v1 with some players. Although I'm not that interested in the two new professions, I do like to see some new core profession skills (for my sexy mesmer :P).

I used to play WoW for quite some time. However I cancelled my account for there wasn't anything to do for me after reaching level 60. Endless raiding and grinding for better and better items is not the kind of gameplay I enjoy
As someone above stated PvP in WoW is mostly 1vs1 even in "teams". But hey, WoW has a lot of subscribers and the PvP servers are pretty much crowded. I'd say that the majority of players prefer 1vs1 PvP. Team play is not for everyone, especially for the human race - hehehe Personally I play GW because I want to have fun with friends, both in PvE and PvP.
However I know a lot of fellow WoW players who seek for a new game. Those who prefer PvE are waiting for Vanguard while the PvP crowd is wating for Warhammer. So far BC seems nothing to offer but the same grind fest as before. And now that Blizzard has announced that the Alliance will get access to the Shaman class and the Horde to the Paladin class the lore of Warcraft is ruined completely which is a big hit in the face for role playing folks

I agree with you that GW requires more skill compared to WoW. However, I wouldn't say that WoW is for "kids" and GW for "men". Whenever I read the local channel in most cities I often doubt that GW is for "men". Instead it seems to be for the so called "733D" crowd ;-)
Not to speak about team building problems. When I switched to GW I really was shocked how unfriendly, immature and selfish the community was. But fortunately I got to know some very, very nice people and a very nice guild so I changed my mind ;-)

id say both im a fan of both but im a GW extream player

BC is guaranteed to sell more. no way it can't.
Best nightfall could do to hurt their sales is to delay people from picking up BC.
The recent news that alliance will get shamans got even ME excited to play the game again. I could care less about the stupid lore in te game, I want to have fun, and PvE is not fun. Hence why I play GW.

Lets try to think the problem this way.
I bought Guild Wars chapter one at Oct, 2005. Cost : AU$90.
I bought Guild Wars chatpter two at March, 2006. Cost : AU$90.
If i will buy Guild Wars chapter three at ? (we say Dec, 2006.) Cost: AU$90
Totoally, in one year, Guild Wars cost me AU$270.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought WOW at March, 2006. Cost: AU$50(Brand New low price in australia)
I will buy WOW: BC. Cost: AU$50 (Have no idea, pre-order is $39 in USA)
Nine Month. Playing fees: AU$180.
Totally, in 9 month, WOW cost me AU$280.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont think it will be another expansion for WOW. at least in the following one year.
However, you might have more Guild Wars: Expansion. every 6 month.
So in 2007, if i am playing for another whole year.
WOW ---------> 12 month AU$240.
Guild Wars ---------> 12 month AU$180.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the point of cost, there is not much difference, actually.
But which game is more interesting?
Compared with GW:F, i will choose WOW. I am really bored after a month playing GW:F. And the point is, after GW:F, i don't want to go back GW:P either.
If Anet still make the new expansion like GW:F, i believe most ppl will leave this game.

what is 90 AU$ in American dollars, roughly? cause the price difference between wow and GW there seems pretty steep...
heck, at that pricing you may as well continue playing wow. lol
Either way, i'm very anti-wow, for a multitude of reasons. So nightfall is for me.

Normally, AU$1 = US$0.75^
Moreover, if ANet had already planned to make expansions for GW:P. They should at least have 1 year to develop the GW:F. If they decided there will be another expansion after GW:F, Nightfall will only have 6 month to design, and develop. If GW:F disappointed lots of gamers, i don't think it is a good idea to put your hope and expectation in a game developed within six month.
Unless, GW:F and GW:N were actually a whole game. They got devided into two for the profit since there was no monthly fee. In other case, if Anet actally mainly focused in GW:N, GW:F was just a way to earn some money.
Then, you can cross your fingers and say "I am expecting!"

ahh well I just started WoW 2 months ago (so many things to do, so many things to see!) after getting bored with Factions (haven't finished the game) :P ... so BC for me!
Dark Dragon
i've never played WoW or have any intention of due to monthly fees but from what i've read about BC and WoW
burning crusade will easily make more sales than GW:N.
Because it seems to me that WoW is a very much equipment/lvl based game, and BC will rasie the lvl cap bring new weapons so you will HAVE to buy it to have a chance to remain competitive.
GW:N is another chapter, the skill involved, lvl, equipment stats hasn't changed and may people seem to be apprehensive about purchasing it after GW:F. Therefore you don't have to buy it to remain competitive in the game therefore less sales.
and BC has a bigger player base 6million from what i heard, vs about 2million not sure on figures but thats 6millin people who must buy to stay competitve vs 2million who can buy it if they want
I play PvE anyway so i'm buying GW:N. Its the longest i've ever stayed playing the same game, so the best value for money ever.
it would be great it GW:N beat BC in the sales though

I will keep playing guild wars and Nightfall.
Although having played wow for 3 yrs I'll likely buy there expansion load it up , then try and transfer my characters back to the pve realm I started on ($$ ) I really hate and despise wow in pvp but maybe with some changes (patched-expansion) I can with stand a return to the pve aspects.

Lady Lozza
Raulence, I've no idea how you managed to get WoW so cheap, except if you bought online, in which case you simply CANNOT compare the prices of the games.
Prices at EB in Australia for GW and for WoW are EXACTLY the same: $89.95
Without being on sale, without having a discount.
Buying GW from overseas stores yields a price of roughly $70, depending on exchange rate. Buying GW from NCSoft gives a price of roughly $60.
Overseas stores also list the two games for the same price, without sales or discounts.
My point is that evidently you didn't buy the two games under the same conditions, so therefore your comparison is not only inaccruate, but down right misleading.

yeah because grinding to 60 was so fun...
60-70 is going to be AWESOME!
there's a trinket in wow that pretty much summarizes the whole game:
carrot on a stick. (took me about a month to catch on to that)
MOMMA, I DON'T WANNA GRIND ANYMORE REPUTATION/LEVELS/EPICS!
pretty happy with the interesting things they added in factions. anticipating they're going to keep that up now.
