Alliance "Who's On" listing

Now, perhaps this has been suggested before. It wouldn't surprise me because I doubt I'm the only one that has been bugged by this.

I'm the guild leader of a small guild (under 15 people). I'm also the leader of an alliance. In this alliance are four guilds, including my own. Two of said guilds are European based, two are based in the USA.

Now, I sign on at odd times of the day and night. Because my guild is so small (and generally not very active) it happens a lot that no more than 2-3 people are on at a time. Part of the reason why we made this alliance is to attempt to remedy that problem. We (the four guild leaders) all thought it was a good idea to join together for faction purposes and for adventuring purposes. (If my guild only has X amount of people and we need a few more then we can call upon the other guilds in the alliance to join us. Or we can just ask them in the first place.)

I've come to notice though, that whenever I start talking in the alliance chat rarely does anyone respond (with the exception of my own guild. Smartasses. ). I began to think about why this is. Surely the other guilds aren't that inactive. One of the possible reasons I came up with is general shyness or laziness as to why a possible person doesn't answer.

(And finally, the suggestion)
My suggestion is that the members of alliances be able to view the fellow alliance members that are on. Make it so that we can open another window with similar looks to our own guild window, but have it list the selected guild's members (on and offline).

I realize that this could lead to some abuse and harassment, but there are many things in Guild Wars that can lead to such activity so I don't really view that as a reasonable disagreement.

I also realize that some might say that I'm to blame. My erratic online times are certainly a problem. Not many people sign on at 2am (or 8am for those in my alliance in England). And while this is true, it also doesn't really take away from the idea.

If this is at all incoherent (I can't really tell) it's because I have a fever and it's 2am. Please, comments, suggestions, and criticisms (constructive, hopefully).

Thanks!

Eeek! I'm in a guild of "large" proportions. Our alliance has a full 10 members and I get the impression our fellow guilds are also quite large. The idea of having a list with 1000 names on it, eek!

Having said that it would be nice to see the number of (but not the names of) players who are on.

Well that's why you'd click on the guild name and another window would open up. It wouldn't just automatically show. I agree that would be a bit much.

Sounds like a good idea to me if they showed the numbers only though. Before almost all my guildies and alliance mates vanished before my eyes (darn Factions lack of content) we would often get cross alliance tells for missions and quests.
For the most part it was nice.

Some more commentary would be nice.

Drop down menu. In the Guild window there would be an Alliance Roster tab. At the top would be a drop down menu listing each other guild in the alliance. Select one, and its roster appears.

Cake.

And signed 1,000,000,000 times. My guild just did a split to group the dedicated PVP'ers, but we're all still family. I'd love to have the same level of intervention still.

One possible way to reduce the number of names that show up would be if it only showed the names of those actually online at the moment. Sure there may be 50 people in you alliance guild but what are the odds of them all being online at the same time.
When you check the status of your guild you see the whole list at the same time of people on and offline. If at the top of that window you had a drop down tab for your alliance guilds but limit it to online only then it would not be too crowded.
What good does it do to have alliances if you have no way to know if any of them are online?

Good idea.

Not bad idea, but what would clean it up is to pick an alliance you want to view members are online are not, and it would only show the people that are online, away, or do not disturb.

Whether it's a drop-down menu (really like that idea btw!) or a simple count of who's on/offline, either would be a big improvement over the current "guess which alliance members are on" system.

I would also have to give this a

cause it would be nice to know if there are people in your allience that are on, without having to toss out a, "Hey, anyone out there?" and hoping they aren't too busy to answer before you decide nobody is on and log out till later.

My preference would be clicking on the guild names and getting the option to see their roster. Just saying how many are on would help at the moment, but it would be nice to see who the 2/25 are.

I like the idea of a drop down menu a lot. Click the guild name in the alliance menu and their guild roster appears ;D
