So what would they be?

I know it depends on certain factors like play style and purpose, but is there a build that is considered to be the best for general use?

I currently have a pair of max damage gold zodiac daggers. I modded them with a barbed tang that I actually searched around for and ended up being lucky with a salvage from a purple pair of daggers.

The reason I wanted barbed was because my main is a warrior that I solo with and I really like barbed as I can hit and run without mobs gaining back health as I take a break to heal.

However, I am grouping with this character so I of course found that the bleeding doesn't help much except in the case of bosses.

So what else should I go for? I don't have a problem with energy too often, so I don't really care for zealous mods, though this might become an issue latter in the game.

Maybe Fort and Defense?

I'd like to make these blades the ultimate assassin daggers where I won't have to worry about getting new ones until maybe chapter 3.

In my opinion, Zealous of Defense, although any of the 4 variants possible with Zealous/Vampiric of Defense/Fortitude will work well.

For an assassin, the best mods are

Vampyric, Zealous
Daggers of
Fortitude, Enchanting

As are most other weapons.
The reason why sundering is not good on an assassin is because they don't do enough damage for sundering to make much of a difference.

+30 Hp is worthless when your defenses are paper-thin.

Does the benefit of a max vampiric mod really outweigh the -1 regen. I mean obviously you would ahve a different weapon set to switch to while not in combat, but do you really gain that much more health? Or is it the fact that you do the three damage regardless of armor and protections? And if the latter, is it really that large of a bonus? It just seems to me that 20+ mob's (especially in Cantha) HPs are so high that the 3 dmg per attack really wouldn't make that much of a difference...

i know you'll say sundering is nub, but i use sundering butterfly daggers of fortitude (i find that slashing damage does more damage than piercing) hence the butterfly daggers instead of dirks

What i use is Sundering sai's of dagger mastery.
The sundering helps deal that extra dmg and the Dagger help increase the chances of Double strike and Critical strike.
I find it extremely effective since im an assassin who conditions(bleed, deep wound, poison, Criple) and also deal major dmg to any profession, I usually finish one character off(minus the warrior) with my skill chain and also have the ability to go on to the next one with enough energy. Ill get owned right away if i dont set up shroud, flashing and bonnetti's.

Maybe the +5 defense will help it? or should i replace the sundering with zealous so i can free up the bonetti's space?

I have Ceremonial Daggers and Chkkr's Pincers.

1:1 Zealous of Fortitude +30
3:1 Vampiric of Fortitude +30

I switch to the preorder Daggers when I'm regenning.

Well with a vampiric mod you're not only doing +3 dmg you're also gaining +3 health per hit...so yeah I'd say it's worth it, could give you some more health while you're killing. Combine it with Way of Perfection and get even more health when u crit.

Yeah but a vampiric mod causes you to loose 2 health per second. So wouldn't it end up being that you only gain like +1 health per sec while attacking? Add that to having to switch out weapons every time you travel or rest, and it seems to me that one would be better served going for something else.

Has a number cruncher done a post on the benefits somewhere. Suppose I'll try to search for it after this post.
