Guild wars price equal to that of wow?
The one Casey Squid
I was thinking about this and if somebody were to buy every guild wars game evry six months then wouldnt that be the equivalent of paying to play wow?

I wished I could think of something else but Eet GnomeSmasher has summed it up quit nicely.

This comparison would be fair only if Guild Wars charged about $100.00 for each new chapter. At $50.00 per chapter it's significantly less expensive than WoW.
Omega X
No.
GuildWars costs $10 dollars a month in 6 month installments.
GuildWars costs $10 dollars a month in 6 month installments.
Opeth11
No.
That would be $100 a year for Guild Wars during the first two games.
$200 dollars after two years.
First year for WOW would be:
50 + (10 x 20) = $250 for the first year.
20 x 12 = $240 for the second.
That's $490 dollars for two years.
Compare:
490-200 = 290.
Guild Wars is 290 dollars (Canadian) cheaper than World of Warcraft if they are both played for exactly two years.

Guild Wars: $50 a chapter upon release (Prophecies is $40 in my area now, though)
World of Warcraft: $40 for initial game (Not sure if it was $50 upon release or not)
+$15 a month
And then, there's an estimated $40 expansion named Burning Crusades slated for release this year.
This does not take into account that you can wait and pick up reduced price games after a period of time. Whereas WoW's initial price may decrease, their monthly fee does not (unless you bulk buy, but that's another story). If you waited until 2 chapters dropped to $40, then you're saving more overall.
And then, there's the aspect that GW allows you to play indefinitely without the standalone/expansions. $50 can enable you to play GW for as long as the servers are open.
Comparing Guild Wars to World of Warcraft payment systems is loosely manageable, but in the end, it's comparing apples to oranges.
Edit: Note - I extracted the WoW prices from EB games

I bought each game at $80 each (AUS)
Thats the same price as a carton of cigarettes (don't smoke kids it's costly)
Taking 4 friends to the movies.
Buying a pair of Jeans.
Both are different games, click to view my posts and you'll soon find why I choose to invest in GW's.

50 bucks US for each GW chapter new (I got mine for 40 each), That's $100 per year at very most.
WoW, 50 bucks for the game, plus 50 bucks for the expansion, I'm guessing one every year or so. Fifteen dollars a month. In one year, that comes to 15 * 12 + 50 = 230.
GW you can buy just one chapter and play that all you want. WoW you have to pay to buy the game and then pay to use it.

2) There is in fact nothing forcing you to buy chapters as they're being released.
3) WoW has expansions too, and they're not free either.
4) WoW is now two years old, and has five years old graphics. It'll require a facelift soon, and you can bet that wont be free.
5) If you want to play a more action-oriented game like WoW, just go do it. Don't look for excuses.
