Nightfall is "Specifically designed to appeal to RPGers." Factions had a significant focus on PvP, so Nightfall will have a significant focus on PvE  That said, there will be a new PvP game mechanic that will blow the socks off PvPers (see the mention of Hero vs. Hero battles, here). |
What did PvP get in Factions that PvE did not? 4 New random comp arenas and 4 new guild halls. All of which require no purchase of Guild Wars: Factions.
Now you're probably thinking "Allience Battles". However, you do allience battles by treking through PvE missions to join a fictional PvE allience. You win allience faction which can be used for controlling PvE towns, which give you PvE missions and a reduction in price of PvE items or you can use the PvE faction to buy PvE amber/jadeite to craft PvE armor.
Random 8v8: Only accessible by PvE characters. Again, it gives PvE rewards.
What pisses me off most, though, is that Factions was advertised as a game that would seemlessly blend PvP and PvE, favoring neither. Now all of a sudden after they get their sales off Factions was PvP?
Puh-lease.... If Factions-quality chapters is what's in store for the PvP crowd, why even bother purchasing new chapters? For new skills only? Why don't they just make a "PvP Edition" of each chapter, where you purchase only the ability to unlock the new skills/weapons/proffesions on PvP characters at a redused price? $30 perhaps?
