Hidden updates?
Tyggen
After the previous update a few days ago I had to download roughly 1500 new files, at 50-60ish megs or so when I started the game. With the new update today I had to download another 400 files at another 20ish megs. The update section at guildwars.com only says todays update "...displays the total number of character slots and the number of used character slots." but I can't believe they need that big of an update to display "6 of 6 character slots used."
I know the Nightfall PvP weekend is right around the corner, but normally they don't put those files online untill thursday at 12-24 (CET), and since the first of these updates was put online at monday I wonder what's going on.
[begin conspiracy theories]

Pointless tread.
You know that little yellow lighting bolt that comes up? That is a streaming update.
In addition to the major updates, A.net oftens patches new things into the game as you play, without you even knowing it.
With the Beta of Nightfall coming up, most likely they are patching in the Nightfall information bit by bit, so they there isn't a massive amount of updating taking place on Friday.
A.net do not do hidden patches.

You mean like the Icy Dragon Sword? I'm talking about easter eggs, not spyware or whatever... But speaking of updates, they just had another as I'm typing this, no word on the site yet what it is.

When i logged on today it told me to "please log of there is a new Build of GW's avaliable" What's this mean then?

Nopes they stream as early as possible to prevent possible congestion over the weekend. Hidden updates?? Why would they do that? If they were hidden it wouldn't be hidden for much longer. The Guild Wars Community is top notch.

I didn't say this with an intention to critizise Anet or the GW community, and I'm sorry if you interpreted it that way. I just find it odd that they would put such massive updates online this soon, and so frequent (three major updates in less then 36 hours). If I hadn't been playing for two days I would've had to download it all in one bundle anyway, and I'm sure lots of players take a day off now and then so it wouldn't make too much of a difference.
But then again, every little helps..
The newest update isn't mentioned here.

Would be better if they updated to page to say "pre loading nightfall" or something lol Otherwise it just makes people wonder whats going on

Considering the recent addition of the button "Enter Store" in the login screen, I think I can guess what the updating has been about. I wonder when it'll go online though.. could it be at the same time as the pvp weekend starts so they can squeeze out a few more slots?

the last few updates over the last week havent topped 6 megs combined so i have no idea where you are getting 50-70 megs for a download unless it has been a very long time since you played
Swinging Fists
I say keep the updates coming, because I smell character slots in the air. It would be nice if they were available before this weekend, and I think ANet would sell many more upfront than otherwise.
Eat A Poptart
If you noticed for one update there was a Guildwars store but then a second update came and it was gone.

The second two updates (the ones today) were both on 6-7 megs each.
The third update today was small, but I'm not sure exactly how small.
I'm very glad they removed the store again though, now I don't have to force myself to stay up all night to keep clicking the enter store button waiting for it to open

if anyone didn't put this in, AN patched in a link to their store in the character screen then patched it out, if that helps explain a few files that were useless

Likely because the back-end wasn't ready and the button would cause more problems and questions that it was worth at the time.
Still... good to see it there.

Probably the live build of the store being added and removed.
