Too many characters?

Do you think you will ever have too many characters on your account?

For example:
I like to mainly play PVE. I have got all my prophecies characters through the Prophecies campaign, and they have also completed the Factions campaign.
My Factions characters have completed Factions but not Prophecies yet.

Adding in Nightfall will allow me additional characters and exponentially increase the amount of time invovled to get all characters through all missions.

I guess I'm going to have to start picking favourite characters. I guess if I do this, then there is no point keeping the other characters that I no longer play.

I've never had a problem with too many characters. But of course I just keep it simple to 2 or 3 characters.

i expect the "average" gamer will have a char for each primary profession

the serial farmers will have a monk/xx and war/xx by the dozen

Well, there's no such thing as too much when you can control how many you have...

There is however, such thing as not enough, which is being delightfully fixed. If you've got too many characters, just stop making them, and focus on the ones you love the most.

I don't think so, its about 50/50 many people don't like creating an army of half baked toons and trying to drag them through the game. Creating two or three good characters with no fog on the map , missions done and a nice supply of skills and the titles you want is how many prefer to play. Quality over quanity type players.

I have a few favorite characters, and I like to keep that number as low as possible. More time spent to master one character is better than fewer times spent on being a noob of 6 characters...

If ever bought 26 character slots, I'll wonder where I got that kind of money from.

As chapters increase and slots increase, it'll be interesting to see the development.

I'm guessing that all my characters will make it through nightfall, but maybe not all through chapter 4. So far, I still have to get 3 characters through cantha and have only 3-4 months left to do so.

But more character slots will hopefully stop the whining about lack of content for those who speed through the game

Ya having 36 characters is a tad ridiculous... Why would you need like 3-4 characters of the same proffesion.

Personally for me, I have 3 active characters out of 10. Only 4 of those have completed Ch1 and 2 of them Ch2. The 3 active characters are only in Ch2 and of the 3, 2 are the ones that completed Ch2. (I hope this makes sense, haha) I guess what I'm trying to say is that maybe a handful of people will get the new chapters and just play new characters instead of continuing an old one. So that's when extra slots come into play. Cheers.

For me, the max is one per profession(10 when Nightfall comes out >_< ). Any more would be pointless, unless you want infinite mules. You have to at least experience all the classes, imo. In my case, I'd *like* one of each. If that ever happens, well we'll see....

I wonder how many assassins you will see playing Nightfall
If I need a slot my assassin will probably be the first one to go.

i think 1 profession of each is good + 1 pvp slot for fast rerolling.

right now im sharing the account with my brother, so we have 3 characters each and storage has been a bad issue, so first thing ill do is buy a character only for storage.

i dont want to delete my monk, ele or ranger for a mule

I can see 1 per profession plus 1 PvP - however some people might not like professions, or try to relearn a profession from scratch without wanting to delete the old character.

I expect to hit the roof with Nightfall. I'm already using 2 retired characters as mule now, and I don't have enough time to complete both Prophecies and Factions with all of my 4 active roleplaying characters. I concentrate on two of them. The two additional slots from nightfall are nice to have, but I will used the mostly for PvP, for testing purposes and as mules. Anything more than 8 slots is really unnecessary.

i have quite a few characters, but recently have the conscious decision to only play 3 of them seriously, I dont have all the time in the world to play, so when I do play, i want it to be quality play.

Same here... My Ranger is my primary character who I play as 90% of the time, followed by whatever character is in my PvP slot and then the rest are ones which I have for skill unlocking or just messing about on.

26 slots on top of the slots gained from merging is way too much. I think the max slots you should be able to buy is 4.

Whatever happened too healthy gaming?

Have 6 slots - all PvE chars (don't keep a spare PvP slot - goes against the grain ...

I have 2 main - 1 for each Chapter; the rest I use for getting to grips with lesser used chars (my necro is a year old now and this time last year, Necros were the Mesmers of the day )...

Was going to remove one (prob the Assassin) but if I can buy slots then I'll grab 1 for pure PvP...

I'm gunna try keep my account with enough character slots for:

*Enough for one pve character of each proffesion.
*One extra for a PvP slot(Re-roll ftw).

I have a ranger and a monk. These chars allow me to farm everything there is in guildwars. So my other slots are for pvp.
PvP is taking all my time atm so I'm not making new chars anyway.
But can there ever be too much slots? imo no

Forelli. I think 26 is too much. It goes to show Anet doesn't support healthy gameplay

I don't see why they are selling 26 slots per character, it just seems such a big number for such a game where theres only 8(nearly 10) classes.

Well, I think it's entirely up to you, and only you can make that decision. Personally, I'm happy with my 6 char slots right now. I have all Prophecies toons, even though I do have Factions. If I get Nightfall, I may create a Nightfall toon and a Factions toon, that is if ANet is still giving us 2 slots for merging.

Yep they are. 4 slots for a single account, 2 extra for merging.

I think they should offer as many slots as someone is willing to buy. For myself, I rarely delete characters. I have an attachment to all of mine. That's not to say that I don't delete a char once in a while. I do, but it's usually one that I've just created and there's something I don't like about them. I'll never delete a character I've finished one or both campaigns with. I've spent too much time, energy (and devotion?) on them. That also doesn't mean I'm going to buy buttloads of slots. For now, I have more than enough to keep me happy.

People have preferences and that's the only reason they are offering to give/sell those slots (for those hardcore players). IMO its too many but thats because I have 6 slots (+2 from factions), 3 of which are maxed out multipurpose characters (Mo/X, W/X, N/X), and the other three are start ups that I may or may not restart. For those who are PvP orientated, they are of course going to want those extra slots for a quick build ftw.. the rest of us, PvE and mix of both, are satisfied with the 4-6-8 chars we will have and we won't ever max out all chars because of the time involved.

"Pre-nerf" is incorrect. It's pre-buff.

Amen, Ashleigh. I think this will be the general consensus between players. Some will probably buy a mule if the storage system stays the same.

True I'd pay a small fee of cash for slightly expanded storage, but not more than 2$ for 10 slots.

I agree with all of this--I'm the same way. I have two accounts so I have 12 slots. I won't be buying any more. At the moment, I have two characters that have finished Prophecies, one character that's finished Factions, and one character who has only Hell's Precipice left in Prophecies. In addition, I have two characters on the go who look like they'll be keepers. That leaves six slots that I play around with--I'll often create a character, play them for a bit, and then decide I don't like them for whatever reason. At the moment, I have four low level characters I'm trying out--an assassin, a rit, an ele, and a warrior. I did delete one character that I'd completed Prophecies with, only because I honestly didn't think I'd play her again. I sometimes regret that, so I'll be a little slower on the delete next time.
