I have the same problem. It took 2 hours to load the initial Nightfall update and it took 1 hour to load several other screens. I left my computer running and walked away.
Everything is downloading and decompressing insanely slow. I use to get 3MBs downloads and it would take seconds to decompress. Now I get 40KBs and 10s of minutes to load.
I can not play in the PvP event because I load at the end of the battle. 3 days now and no sign of resolution.
To summarize, if I do not load in 5 minutes, I quit the game now. It is too bad as I would have loved to try the PvP event.

To load all area updates start the game with the image switch, then it will load everything there is - it might take some time though.
Click Start in windows and select run, now type
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
(obviously if your game is located somewhere else you need to correct the path).
