No temporary character slots available during the preview
Karmaniac
Up to this moment there hasn't been a word about gaining temporary character slots during the preview weekend (Factions preview had those remember?).
Since it has become obvious that when dragon's day was Factions-only Nightfall is a pvp-only event. I'm quite strictly pve player with occasional stint in pvp I'm somewhat let down by this. I'd really like to try out these new classes but unfortunately I have 6 pve chars all with 15k sets (some multiple) nearing 1 year of age so getting rid of even one of them would really hurt.
How does the rest of the pve-community feel about this? I think I'll just quietly farm for that perfect celestial sword/axe which for some reason never seems to drop.

They could give Nightfall slots beforehand and lock them after the preview until you buy Nightfall and add the key but nooo! Things have to be as difficult as possible. That is an everlasting rule of life.

It's obvious what ANet want us to do. Or does anybody believe that it's coincedence that the GW Shop (where you can buy additional character slots) opened just in time for the event?

Oh don't be so cynical (synical?) - Anet wouldn't do that... they'll probably do what they did with the Factions PvP Preview event and hand out preview accounts
Come on guys, have some faith !!

Ah ha, so the PvE'rs who like to do some PvP on all their 6 different PvE charas can't try out these new professions, because it's a PvP weekend?
Gimme a break

therell probably be a pve weekend for nightfall too, so pve-ers can test them then.

We've never got ANY temp slot for preview events. I doubt we'd get that now.
And this has nothing to do with selling slot, really. It's your own fault not having free slot. Don't go blaming on others.

Im the same as the OP, except I do not play PvP at all. I only want to play this weekend to see what the scenery is like but I expect I will see some screenies of it soon.
However I think I read Gaile say on another forum that this would not be the only event pre Nightfall, so I expect to see a PvP event sometime in the future.

We got free throwaway accounts... its sorta lame to expect people would keep a pvp slot open. I see alot of 15k armor in the high end guild battles.

I would say that the extra char slots coming just in time are not done to maliciously take advantage of players. Rather, it's a smart business move. No it isn't worth it to delete a PvE char for a weekend, but well, $10 is not a lot of money.
I can understand the distress- I'd be ticked too, but it could be worse.

2. Do you think ANet will give out free test keys for the PvE weekend? I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

are we giong to have this discussion before every single preview event? get used to it.

A.net needs to make a profit at the end of the day, I think its a smart move opening the store before the event.

Not that I don't think these people have a dedicated pvp slot, they most likely do.
I think a lot of us expected the ability to have a temporary account. There is the odd chance that I would have been patient and not created a pve character on slot 6 if I had realised that the only way to participate in the preview weekends was to have that slot.
We've already seen that the store isn't up and running yet, and won't be in time for the weekend, or if, then won't be accessible by the weekend for those living outside the US/Canada area due to paypal being.. well.. paypal.
Oh well, it'll give me a chance to continue building my ele up to pvp standards during the weekend.

You see, I'm trying to stick to the Nightfall North African desert theme here.

Why would you charge someone £10 for a glass of water when most likely they won't have £10 on them being in the middle of nowhere and all.
A.net is giving us the option to buy a slot, or as suggestion just delete on of our exisiting characters to allow us to make new classes during the event.
Using your example, if the man was offered the glass of water for 10 bucks, then he has the option to say no, and delete the part of the desert he's on and create a body of water in its place.

Like your example, it makes no sense.
Ashleigh McMahon
If someone tried to sell me a glass of water in a desert for 10 bucks, i'd KO the seller and drink it without paying
But back to the subject. It is a "coincidence" that Anet opened the store at this particular time, but a smart coincidence. They'l be counting there notes this time next week, I bet

A.net is a company out of make profit, good on them for doing things like this to generate profit. I'd love to be the shoes of whoever came up with this planning

Promotion ftw
I bet GW hits WoW off the charts with this stunt, but it's what the store will sell ontop of character slots, thats what i'm worried about.

guess what?
peope know about it now and there is no need for the extra temp accounts.
GUESS WHAT AS WELL FOLKS..............YOU CAN PLAY YOUR FAVORITE PVE CHARACTERS AGAINST THE NEW PROFESSIONS IF YOU HAVE NO FREE SLOT (S) TO TRY THEM.
BE THE FIRST TO TAKE DOWN THAT DERVISH ETC.
you dont have to be left out unless you want to

I'm surprised they aren't doing the throwaway accounts again. Someone gave me theirs for FPE, I got hooked and played it all weekend, then went and bought GW the following Monday :/

Seems there's a sliver of hope after all but usually when Gaile comes to reassure us I often find myself preparing for the worst case scenario. A similar case of disinformation was when Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the earth was being made there was a total blackout from the team because the developer (Bethesda) didn't allow them to give any -even vague- information regarding the game and release date except that it will be awesome when it's out. The question remains if this strikes any of you as awfully familiar.
And about DoCtE: it was good I heard but not great.
Anyways, it's about 10+ hours till the preview kicks off and we'll see if the cynic was right. I'll be rooting for his downfall.

I have 6 pve characters and using my factions temp. account to try out the new professions (got that account by inviting myself in the factions preview event using another email)
