why would you want one for 50K if you can make +5en swords in PvP and you can have max dmg greens with E+5 for less?

That NPC in the divine path crafts +5e weapons for 10k + materials, which has caused the price of the HoD swords to plummet since factions. So I'm thinking that 5k might be a bit high for a denravi sword, then again I do have a guildie who wants one for nostalgic reasons.

Question: How can you tell a genuine HoD sword apart from a random drop that comes with the +5e mod ?

They are called 'Long Sword' when they actually have the Short Sword/Gladius skin.

HoD swords are still worth a bit..if you found a good deal maybe 50k just for the collector part of it..i believe they are "long swords" with the short shord skin as jiao yang said..and they are also 14-21 dmg
