The BIG question..will Nightfall be worth buying?
unmatchedfury
i understand all the bitching about the game and stuff, GW isn't for everyone, and it certiantly can't be every gametype.
but wtf is up with the hate on the factions classes, the ritulistpwns, still is my fav class. its one fo the best teamwide supporter in the game not to mention one the of better farmers (echo vengance anyone?)
and assassains are almsost integral to PvP now. simply because of thier ability to eleminate a ncp within the span of 5 seconds + the poisin bleed time.

There really is no good answer to your question because we know about as much as you do (or have access to). This is only a PvP sneak preview of the two new proffessions; anything else is 3rd hand extrapolation based on info from the people who make the game.
Put another way: Anet said how much Factions was going to rock too, but most players call it an expansion--not because they merged their accounts--because the content amount and quality was decidedly pethetic compared to the original. Nightfall will have more missions, but we don't know if they will be PvE "cakewalks" that anyone can beat in 2 minutes with henchmen or monstrous dungeons that make you wish you had the 12-man Deep teams with you.
From me: Paragon is a nice support proffession, but still doesn't hold a candle next to my monk. Dervish is ok, but I haven't played him much yet.
I made a decision when Factions flopped (in my eyes): I won't be buying another game from Anet unless the content is worth the price. I didn't feel Factions was, so I will be waiting with interest while I let others run for Nightfall. I suggest you do the same.

Here's a simple protocol you can apply to that question then:
Guildwars > Diablo II
Both are free.
The protocol is simple.
$40~60 (currence of your choice, you know what it costs you) once to enjoy a game whenever you want is pretty damned good. It's not just a stupid click fest. On top of that, you can get a whole new game (well, not Factions lol) when they come out. And you can also refuse to buy them and just play the one that was good!
I didn't buy Factions. I still play Prophecies. Yet, I'm still playing. Do I feel let down by A.net? No, I didn't go out and buy the cow without testing the milk first. Don't fall into the hype of waiting for something to come out, buying the first copy on reserve, going home, and pretending to be cool because you were one of the first people to sell your soul to said company. Just casually buy the game when it's well established and everyone is saying it's worth while and not just a hyped up pile of bull-excrement (Horizons? lol...).
If it's not for you, then it's not for you. Go play whatever online game you prefer that you think is so ultimately better that you're willing to buy that game, at the same price of guildwars, and then pay your $10~15 a month on top of that. And when you're old and want to take a vacation and can't because of the thousands of dollars you gave to an online game series over the years for the chance to farm for fake money, hopefully, will make you sick.
It's a game.
At least, it should just be a game...

To give you an idea of why many are calling the new profession crap:
Situation: Player who originally thought they were a hot potatoe with their knockdown earthshaker W/E standing around quoting themselves due to owning so hard that it pressured them to type it out for you to ignore.
"Man, the build is too good. It had to stop."
"No, it worked for a while until people figured out how to get around it."
"Pfft, it takes skill dude, what can you do. Nothing. Duh."
"Which is why another build replaced it... and never saw it resurrected."
"Whatever man. Those new builds don't require skill like our old ones."
"What are you talking about? They require just as much skill."
"Nah dude, you just started the game, so you don't know what I'm saying."
"I beta tested this game before your mother bought it for you."
"stfu noob."
/quit
Just like a lot of people to this day talk about how hard they pwn mesmers and how ultimately noobicidal it is to play a Wammo.
People hate change.
People hate not being in the "staying on top" group of the gaming community.
Let them cry harder.
And in the mean time, enjoy being a sneaky assassin. Or enjoy blanketing the screen with spirit buffs.

Though I have high hopes for Nightfall, I don't think they could let me down. Paragon and Dervish are quite unique characters, despite people thinking there couldn't be as unique characters as the originals. The only problems I see are the Dervish becomming the patron farmer, and the Paragon becomming a replacement for archer Rangers. Not that I'm totally against either of those, especially if they introduce some really great bow attack skills in Chapter 3 to match the Paragon.
I don't PvP often enough to get a kick out of this weekend event, so I'm waiting to pass judgment on the new characters until the PvE event. So far, Nightfall looks damn promising.

Hey with all the good comments about the PvE already, I'm getting a bit more interested. Of course I will be watching for them to pull the wool over my eyes, but this is the team that did Prophecies, so I am receptive.
Looking into the long term, if NF does well, in my mind it is gonna look horrible for the Factions team, simply because I don't think they delivered on that game.

No one is patting them on the back.
You think these people aren't aware of what people are saying about their product? They hire people specifically to monitor that stuff and report it.
Why do you think they didn't get the Chapter III contract?

I dont know I am starting to have bad feelings. the pve must be fricken awsome in nightfall for me to even think about getting it. I only played the 2 new profs for about 4 hours but I already have a pet peeve for them. There is just something about them that irrates the heck out of me and also I'm not into the whole Northren Africa feel.
oh and just to seem fair I played the assassin durring the Factions pvp preview and loved it. I am not against new profs or things.

I feel the rpg is going to rock I am just worryed about the new classies working in pve.
they have coolness factor, pargon is missing something cool, desvish rocks but I am so afraid of it turning into a asassin with really weak armor.
hope anet remebers the fun factor for these classies
I have feeling the rpg will be good.

Paragons are exactly what I expected: shout buffs with All party/ally healing where Rits have become mainly prot. If you persue them from that bent and run as a group healer you won't be disappointed. The buffs they drop are situational but not constrained, menaing they will proc on all players that need them when they need them. I worry about recycle in long fights, but they have a very nice anti-spike shout that is group applied. look around for it.
I remain sceptical, but the proffessions themselves feel balanced. Really want to stick a Scythe on my Warrior.

Well no one knows until it's out so the question is kinda void at this stage.

I wish there are better skill for assassin in Nightfall, I love assassin except it is weak armor yet not much skill to keep it live long. Darvish and Paragon really give me a lot of headache in Random Arena.

Ok since this was also bought up i'll cover this aswell
why i quit..
after playing for a year and making my millions chapter 1 lost its appeal to me..there is only a certain amount of time you can farm a certain areas and some of the missions and quests become reall dull after going through them with 5 chars
i bought factions based on the 12v12 which i thought was a great laugh but sadly thet decided to mess with that. I tried playing through factions but i just didnt have the appeal to me
to those that said this thread is pointless..i disagree, a persons first reaction to something new is always interesting to know
oh btw..KEEP IT ON TOPIC..i wont hesitate to report all flamers and flamebait posts
Black Destroyer
i actually like PvP, i play it more then PvE...
Is Nightfall worth buying then?

As for the enjoyment of Factions, to each their own. My personal dislike for it has nothing to do with forums. I played it. I've watched it played since the day it was released, right next to me, on this very desk. But as I stated in another thread, I didn't buy into it. I didn't purchase it. And I'm not playing it. It wasn't the PvE experience that I had wanted. It was an item fest, gold making machine and PvP oriented release that felt and looked a lot more like an expansion than a stand alone game. And while I'm sitting in Tyria, I look around at all the fancy items and skins from Cantha, who are all standing around in Tyria, looking for something to do.
That said, if someone else enjoyed it for their own reasons, more power to them and A.net deserves their money.
Anyhow, based on my experience with Factions and my experience with Prophecies, I'm much more likely to buy the next game if it's more similar to how Prophecies was, compared to how Factions is.

I DID NOT hate the game..i got "bored" and left getting bored and hating the game is 2 different things altogther

tbh the only troll on this thread is you so do yourself a favor and stop posting

considering i never said or even implied that the game was finished and they suddenly said hey we will add pvp i dont see how you got that idea.
something can be added at any point
also i have been accused of being a rabid fanboi more than once but never a detractor of GW.
as i have posted in the past Anet is guaranteed purchases through chapter 4 (at least) to show support for the fun i have had and am still having with chapter 1
