I have spent some time on the subject and testing it left right and center with numerous builds. And now I will put it to you folk who obviously know more than myself.
Currently I am experimenting with 3 skills. And it seems that I've managed to pull out some fantastic burst damage using these skills.
Mind Wrack
Power Return
Energy Surge
So far, as far as I can tell and of course a build filled with energy denial. A person casting a spell and being burned once they are at 0 again by Mind Wrack takes the damage, then after a power return the spell is countered and that player is given 7 (in my case) energy which is then burned out of them by another Energy Surge.
My understanding in this case is they take full damage from Mind Wrack for casting a spell, Power Return the spell is interrupted and they are now have a small amount of energy returned that is burned out of them by Energy Surge doing ( in my case ) 70 odd damage and yet again triggering Mind Wrack.
Is this the case? I have searched many sites with details on energy denial and some great articles. None of which refer to this particular combo. Now am I completely wrong in thinking that this is, indeed, the way it works. And I have stumbled onto something most people had not thought of?
Or is this a common mistake amongst new players and for what reason.
Also if anyone has any good builds that ( if this works ) could use such a combination of skills I would love to hear it.
And for those who will point me out to the search function - the forum search function referred me to google forum search function that brought up no conversational instances of the word +"power return".

hmm maybe spam WW to force your target to cast more, so as to drain his/her nrg?

No reason on getting target to zero energy and giving it back just to be able to do more damage. You are mesmer - u need to shutdown target - damage is only nice addon, if u want to kill ppl with spells then try playing ele. U should either use skillbar concerned around energy denial (which is pretty much useless right now compared to other things mesmer can do) or on interrupts (and then power return is good spell - they won't cast single spell so their energy is not a problem).

The main use for power return is to give you a guaruntee that your e-denial skill will be done to its maximum potential, while at the same time preventing the skill from being of any benefit to the caster.
It is a good combo, Mind wrack, E-surge, Mind wrack, power return, E-burn... but its a difficult combo to pull of as you need high fast casting for good spike damage (and funnily, high FC decreases the return on PW), nice damage output though... its hard to get power return in at the right time... however.

Thanks for the input. After reading your comments I've decided to put it asside as a 'possible later option'. I think the above poster was right in saying denial was a better choice of options in general. Thats how I play my messer at the moment. I'll stick to that I guess till I get 15k armor and want to buy up all the messer skills I can.
