I say this as a leader of a guild, and have had many discussions with other leaders in our alliance over it, all of them agree as well. What i would like to see is more positions in the guild ladder. There are some that i trust, that i could leave temporarily and leave in charge, others i dont trust as much as i dont know them as well, however do to tremendous amounts of help given to other guild members, thier activeness in game, and a few other criteria, they deserve to be officers. and of course there is the members.
How i would like to see the guild ladder set up is something like this, as i think it would be better for the guild and also encourge others to strive for the next level.
1. Leader: Full permissions.
2. Lead officers (High Council): Full permissions except the ability to boot other lead officers, or promote to lead officer status.
3. Officers: Ability to invite new members, and temporarily able to ban junior officers and members, pending lead officer or leader approval. (Basically placing the member in a suspend state, until a higher level officer can approve or disaprove of the pending ban).
4. Junior Officers: Ability to invite new members pending lead officer or leader approval.
5. Members: No permissions.
This is just something i have really wanted to see, to give the guildies encourgement to strive for higher levels of leadership in the guild. This would also allow for us leaders to reward those that have done an outstanding job in the guild.
This is currently how i run my guild of 80+ members, with a guild this large you need to have various steps of leadership, and ways to reward. This system works excellent in our guild. I know of a few others that have done this as well because of how well it works and the closeness of all the guildies, is like a family.
Now currently it is just a verbal setup do to there not be the extra steps in the guild ladder however this system works well.
Please post your ideas on this subject as i am very interested in hearing from other guild leaders and thier officers as to what you think, and or any changes you might make from this system. Thank you.
Twisted the Mage,
Section Five: Lead Officer (100 members)
Section Five Alpha: Guild Leader (80+ members)
4 or more tier ladder in guild

I posted summat similar to this, and its been done before.
Basically, im saying make it WoW style, lol.
Have up to 10 customizable ranks, where you can set your own permissions for them. That'd sort everything
+ if you're a PvP guild you dont HAVE to change rank names or add news ones!

Before I say anything else, know that I am not a guild officer or leader, so take my recommendations as you will. Having experience with other large groups, however, I believe I am justified in posting my ideas here. Ignore them completely if you wish :P
I would love to see more than just "Officers" and "Members," though as previously stated perhaps permissions could be customizable. That would certainly help organize the larger guilds out there.
You gotta admit, WoW has some great systems in place, so who can really blame Anet for using the idea? =\ After all, we're asking them to.
And before I get flamed for that last paragraph, yeah I know it could be copyright infringement/patent violation for the idea/code, but Blizzard's nice, they can give Anet permission to use the idea can't they? =\
On another note regarding the system, perhaps time-based restrictions could be used. Say for instance, a temporary kick, a temporary demotion, and then once the time has expired the guild leader goes to the guild tab and finds out the time has expired. He then decides whether to renew the restriction or lift it.
