I personally think that the profession assassin should really be named: Ninja, my resons for this are:
1) They really don't assasinate anyone; it's more genaral combat.
2) they wear ninja suits (not really a reson but oh well)
3) and they seem to do backflips and such all the time!
4) finally if cantha is ment to be based on somwhere in asia (orient) then the ninja is really more suitable.

Overall I think they should be called ninja's because ArenaNet DID design them around the stereotype of the ninja that hollywood portraits. But Assassin, I guess, is still appropriate because of their function in the game. (umm .. no not to tank - to kill with deadly precision and speed while avoiding harm)

I don't think the Assassin is Ninja enough. The number one feature of a Ninja is espionage, not assassinating, using a certain weapon, or teleporting.
Without any hiding and serious evasive skills, Assassin is a long way from being a Ninja, and beyond that, Ninjas fighting style was a natural combination of the most effective combat techniques, also incorperating normal tools and objects around them as effective weapons of low profile.
Assassins can easily masquerade as Ninjas if they wish, they don't need to be named Assassin, and the name certainly isn't going to be changed now. As for Samurai, whatever, this has nothing to do with it.

No for all the reasons above and the name "ninja" is too cliche for my likes, especially seeing it everywhere in place of "assassin". That would just piss me off more than assassins do as they are at the moment, I hated mine...

If they did rename them ninja's, there would be a massive out cry for the pirtae profession. That'd be cool. Maybe in their next game, after nightfall, we'll have something like the Kurzicks and Luxons, but with Pirates and Ninjas. Pirates would own.

Who cares what they are called, they will be forgotten as soon as nightfall comes out anyways, Dervish and Paragon are way better..... a ranged unit with more armor than Assassin, sad.
