Are laggy games the future of Guild Wars?
Slainster
I played Factions last night for the first time seriously since buying it in March\April, and could not believe how laggy the game was. Ive been playing prophecies for a year now, and never experienced as much as lag as I did last night. So im wondering if future chapters are going to be as bad as this? I dont want to take my surviving mesmer across if she is gonna die cos of a laggy server. Is this a cost cut measure, or simply to many people playing (In which case we need more servers )?

There's a Nightfall PVP preview weekend going on right now, which is probably the best explanation for the lag... but neither me, nor my guildies are experiencing any abnormal lag, so I'd question your connection/computer in this specific case.
prism2525
Same for me. No one I know is complaining about abnormal lag.

Well I've got 8mbit connection.. and why would the PVP weekend affect factions only?? Ive been playing prophecies with no lag what so ever
Saix The Spartan
Man, i've only met like 4 people with bad lag, they go on and say that everyone has it (Not you of course) No one i know has ANY lag...So like someone said check all you internet stuff.
Carth`
It's probably not lag, but low fps. My computer struggles with Factions areas. Prophecies is smooth as ever, but in Factions I frequently get stuttering.
Bad Apache
As Carth said, it's probably low Frames Per Second.

A couple friends and I were playing Guild Wars at a local PC cafe and experienced some pretty bad lag while loading into zones and soemtimes entire Heros Ascent matches in general. And if a dual bonded T1 is getting lag, then there's no hope for any of us.

Enter the game, in this case Guild Wars, and see how your computer matches up. Both my PC and the cafe's PC were at the top of the graph, so imo this time around it's all on Anet due toa ll the people playing and downloads going on durign the weekend event.

No lag here.
KamikazeChicken
There are wide-spread complaints about lag, during EVERY event which features new content. The majority of these complaints come from people who are on the wrong server or their computer is crap.

Well, I am experiencing lag, and sure I wasn't up to wednesday.

Of course there is lag right now. The faster your connection normally is, the more obvious it is that, as of now, there is a delay between you clicking a button and something happens - I'd say I'm presently having a "ping" of about 250 - 400ms. Normally I have no such delay.
There's also a lot more rubberbanding going on than normal (that's when you think you're going somewhere, and then *snap* you're back where you were a few seconds ago).
As others have said this is pretty much normal for the vastly greater server loads during events like the present Nightfall PvP preview event, and will hopefully disappear by monday.

same here.
Since Friday, HA, RA adn similar things are just a slideshow for me. Dunno why, but FPS drops on 4,5 (i had normal 30-40), and it's completely unplayable. I've tryed to lower graphics, but i have same result on max or on lowest version of it.
I really dont know what is going on, but i hope it's only weekend event lag.

If you were in PvP zones then its due to the number of people playing this free weekend.
If it was outside zones (term used loosely) around Keineng, its probably FPS lag, rather than connection lag, and is therefore your end issue, play with your settings, its annoying but unless u have a really high end PC, with all the skill actions, decals and what not being thron around in such a graphically high demanding area your going to experience FPS lag with normal settings.

It'll probably sort itself out once the event is over as there won't be so many people on at once.

During all the updates it was SUPER LAGGY, going into HA versus the Zaishen I would always trip the timer due to 5 second screen freeze after double clicking my character to walk forward. A way to get all updates all in one big upload is to:
1)Right Click Guild Wars icon
2)Click Properties
3)Next to "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
4)Open Guild Wars
It seems after that huge upload it would'nt load the game itself, weird. So take off the -image and it loaded the game.

awesome sauce
Don't quote me on this, but i think that they might have changed the rendering engine with the last update. Before, when I turned it would just move faster over areas that gave me lower fps, making it appear as though there was no slow down. Now, it stays at the same speed for me no matter where i turn, and the slow down is more visible.

i used to run on maxed out settings, with only a lil lag when i first enter a big battle, but after that itd go away
event comes and its like im on a 10 year old computer
it has to be the weekend event thats causing it
Slainster
with my current pc spec, id find it difficult to believe its an FPS lag... it has been better today, so mayhap it was just the volume of people on last night or something...

I thought it was my connection (Cable and usually very fast) and now I am pretty sure it is not here is why.
Yesterday morning I was doing RoF and was rubberbanding like crazy, skills taking there time all that. So I gave up updated my nvidia drivers and logged back on.
Grouped with a bunch of guildies to help some other guildies do quest around beacons and Lions arch. We did 2 quest and was doing the 3rd when a guildie could not move and she could not be seen in guild chat but pm worked ok. It started threading from there affecting all of us we tried logging back on and all that to but nothing helped. Everyone of the 6 had cable connections except 1 and he was T1. Out of the 6, 2 were running win 2000 3 XP pro 1 XP prof. 4 had 256 nvidia cards or higher 2 had 256ATI cards or higher. System memory was 512 to 1g between everyone.
Then grouped with the same for a Cantha mission and same thing.
So we all quit for the day.
Today we start again this time just me and a guildie at the S Monastery we do a couple quest and then we start the same thing as yesterday, Her and I different countries different computers both fast connections and fast computers.
While everyone may not be having issue's there is no way with all the different systems above that its a single persons computer.
Its a bummer cause I love GW and am on almost everyday. These problems really got bad since the last mega update, my system is more then enough to handle this game. I hope they let me know what to tweak or fix it cause it makes it real hard to be almost done with a mission and then "pysch" :P

For the first time ever my FPS dropped today. I've experienced lag before, as in the rubberband effect. But not problems with framerate. I have two 7800's running in SLI that never break a sweat with GW. But earlier tonight, I was capping in Ring of Fire, and when I reached one area with a bunch of lava spitters, I had a noticeable framerate drop.
Unrelated issue: later on, I was kicked (err=007) while helping a guildie do the Tannakhai Temple mission. We were in the 7th room and I needed the cap (sigh). Luckily, he was able to continue and finish (it was just me, him, and henchies). But it's been a while since I was kicked.
I've also noticed that there can be a delay between using a skill and its sound.

rating lag from 1-10:
1.Not noticable
2.Slight pause while moving
3.Cannot stop your own spell from casting that is longer than 1 second.
4.Skill claims to be recharging after the fact.
5.Over turns and underturns due to more than slight pause.
6.Rubberband. More than slight pause in moving.
7.Skill doesn't activate or lags before activating without screen freezing.
8.Longer Rubberbands. Nearly Teleporting to areas you weren't planning to ever go to.
9. Instant Death due to 30 second lag freezes
10. Err = 7

why wait for the future? theyre already here!

I think I got alot of 10's, every 2 hours my character freezes (can still turn around) and after 2 minutes I get logged out and have to restart Guild Wars. I really hope this will go away, because it started when the store/preview event came. Never had it before.
eternal pho
grrr I'm still suffering from heavy lag, especially in AB
Theus
I swear it has something to do with the PvP-Beta Preview update.Something obviously was changed.
I used to be fine in GvG and all other forms of PVP but now I get periodicly sporadic FPS drops that can last about 10 seconds.

I'm getting a lot of warping about and skill delays too actually.

Smooth connections for me...

I had some real bad lag problems start last week, and I've never ever had a problem with Guild Wars. I messed around with the graphics settings, and all I had to do in the end was turn off "Wait for vertical sync".
It made my lag go away, don't know if it'll help you guys, but thought I might as well post it.
