The graphics aren't so nice either.

This has actually been brought up before. If you started a Factions char, you will most likely be at level 16 or 17 when you get to Kaineng Center. The henchies there are at level 20, so are the monsters. The AI is designed so that monsters always attack the lowest level character, which is unfortunately, in this case, the human player. That is probably the reason for that statement.

More appropriate question would be "Is anyone still playing factions".
Funny when you go to towns and there are literally 1 or 2 people there.
They might as well just say cantha was nuked and close it, by chapter 3 or 4 no one will even remeber the place.

I just made a new necro and did prophicies. All towns had tons of people and missions/quest are so much better, i had almost forgot how good it was.

Wha? Are you in the international districts or what? And before you cite "deserted" towns in Factions, there are a couple of those in Prophecies as well.

I honestly dont see why people are complaining how hard Kaineng was either. I was a level 14 assassin with STARTER armor and did the quests there with henchies until I was level 20 with no problems. Mind you, I was using a bow so I wasnt in the middle of level 20 mobs with my squishy assassin but still....

Well, some of those outposts that you're referring to were probably quite deserted prior to Factions' release. Personally, I can almost always find people to party with in Prophecies. I play on the American servers.

When i started my assassin i never took a group for anything until i reached Eternal Grove and needed Alliance intervention. Why? Assassins never get groups. People whine at them constantly for dieing. I sucked as an assasin (Frenzy ftw!). I never had any problems with Jade Brotherhood though (beyond Dragon Stomp wiping henchman out). Learn to love Watch Yourself and Distracting Blow on A/Ws.

Cantha is a bit shit tbh. 13 missions? Vizunah Square = Gankfest and Leeroyism. Eternal Grove = A THK without the fun. The entire game is just MM based. Only Arborstone is no use for MMs, that happens to be the most irritating mission on the game (****ING CITIDEL COLLAPSE). Not to mention i have to undertake the same old boring Primary Quests OVER and OVER.

Had lots of fun taking my Assassin and Rit to Tyria. They actually make Prophecies insanely easy. Ran to droks (since i don't need to reach droks to cap Charge to run to it now ) since lets be honest the jungle sucks. Its nothing but slaughtering White Mantle and the odd spider. Spectral Agony > Song of the Mists. That was actually an endgame skill to be feared (with a Spirit Rit its a bit less fearsome). Song of the Mists you hardly notice, probably because the MM is standing up front while the minions take it all...

If your finding Assassin no fun. Capture Aura of Displacement and get a team for Thunderkeep. In the last week i've done the bonus 3 times on my Assassin with Alliance teams. People won't use them because they're 'fragbait'. When they can actually solo Mursaat Eles, Necros occasionally, Mesmers (i think) and all the White Mantles easily. I spend the time wandering around the edges of the mission hopping outside, killing things then coming back. Lots of fun
More than i can say for Unwaking Waters. "ATTACK KUUNAVANG" *random dark chain lightning* Half team almost dead because the listed 200 damage is quite obviously not. Then theres the -10 degen Scales... and the best 1s, the bugged -2 energy degen which is infact health degen Spores.

As much fun as Vizunah Square is just rampaging around, the game is far too MM based... mobs can be easy. Or throw an MM into the mix and steamroll things. At least the endgame Prophecies actually needed you to use something other than Death Magic.

I have to agree that prophicies was more of a challenge. They nerfed aoe because omgwtfhax it does too much damage and every group always wanted nukers. Now every group wants an mm and its a cake walk. I don't want them to nerf mm's I wish other class would get buffs so there would be variety in the teams and make the missions harder. But knowing anet they'll just nerf another 20 skills next update.

Most of my friends own both chapters and without a doubt C1 is where we are most often. I find it interesting how many people are making new characters in tyria still. Obviously its better exp in cantha and skills are easier to cap, but tyria is just more fun and a better game.

I took one character half way through Factions before going back to Prophecies. All my others never went*, and my next character was then made on Tyria. So yes, some people do.

*until they were forced to for the new storage. Then they went straight back.

I think what they're saying is that there will always be some abandoned towns, not because there are no people, but because there is no interest in going there, in both prophecies and factions.

Factions is not empty, there are plenty of people, i don't get why theres this absurd notion that nobody plays it. I was at marketplace, senji's and various other places late last night that were absolutely packed considering the time of night.

The only time i've had trouble getting a group in factions was at unwaking waters, very late at night. I've had just as much difficulty finding groups in prophecies for hells precipice or other locations as in factions.

Toll Booth Willie, i'd have to say prophecies was a challenge too, but only because i was a newbie, and am now used to playing the game. I have improved.

I like prophecies more, although I spend more time on battle isles than on the two continents combined.

Slower levelling curve, skill quests, open areas, generally open-ended way of playing (go where you like) and NO MOTHERRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOING LOCKED GATES makes prophecies a much better place.

That's exactly what I meant. And I think people are just outright lying or are just on crack when they say there's only 1 or 2 people in towns in Factions unless they just didnt seem to realize that they were in the international districts....

After dragging 8 characters through Cantha faster than I got one character through Tyria, I find myself spending most of my time in Tyria again. I have nothing left to do in Cantha but farm, and if I'm gonna farm, I'd rather it be somewhere pretty and not crowded, laggy slums. Furthermore, I like just wandering around sometimes and only in Tyria can you feel "far" from civilization... the map of Cantha is just too dense.

Not to mention the really irritating fact that you have to do the missions in the right order to get anywhere in Cantha. Some missions, after you do 5-6 times, you never want to see again (yes i'm talking about YOU arborstone).

Tyria just feels so free in comparison.

I only ever once made a canthan character, an assasin, got halfway through then deleted her.

Ive just made a new mesmer in Tyria and love every bit of the first game, so no reason for me to head into cantha again untill i really need to. For starters its way to laggy for me, and i just love Tyria so no point in me leaving.

I'm afraid I have to disagree...I love Cantha...I think it's because I started there and bought Prophecies afterwards... Tyria is starting to grow on me a bit more now but I hate starting characters in Tyria, it's SOOOOO slow. Does pre-searing have, like, 'Run at -66% normal speed' on it or something. Anyways, I deleted my Tyrian born elementalist to make another Canthan-born character.

I took my Canthan Ele over to Tyria first, started at Lions Arch "Hmm, nice place" I thought...then I went outside. I walked through to the black curtain (with henchies) and just got pwnd. I HATE HELLHOUNDS. People say canthan monsters are overpowered - but when I aggro a tyrian monster, ALL the others come at me from as far as the eye can see... Why is this? I didn't aggo them, but they all still came, this is particularly bad with the Ettins outside that ascalon settlement in North Kryta. You aggo one, and you get ten.

I do like the fact the you get skills in prophecies, but I don't know, I might rather have the money like you do for the Canthan quests, but then again, my skills cost a platinum to buy now, so free ones isn't so bad! I don't like the crappy weapons though...what is my ele going to do with a tall shield exactly? Salvage!

Soooo...I think if the OP is not finding too many people around, try changing the time of day you play, if possible... I went to the Eternal Grove in the Echivold Forest at about lunch time and there was no-one there, I went back at 8PM and it was packed... Just a thought.

All of my core professions characters stopped after reaching Leviathan Pits or Vashburg Armory. My assasin just finished Divinity Coast and my ritualist is at Iron Mines. Both took the boat ride from Kaineng Center to LA and might not head back to factions for a while.

I have pushing my Cantha born toons thru Prophecies as of late, I really like
both areas, they are both alot of fun, but I think Prophecies has a little more
to offer, I just love the desert, my favorite part and possibly the most
versatile farming area of all, even after the Griffon nerf.

What I've done with my last two Tyrian born characters is get to Lion's Arch, take the boat to Cantha, level them up, and go back to Tyria. You can easily level up your chars in Cantha since quests are 2-5000 xp. I can move up 3 or 4 levels in less than an hour. Next, I suppose I'll take my Canthan born chars through Tyria. I haven't done that yet.

By far the best strategy. Several of the quests in Cantha are extremely easy to do, and level you up to 20 very quickly. That and not having to wait until Droknar's to get max armor is almost like cheating...(NOTE: I said ALMOST)

I've probably spent 95% of my in-game time in the last two months in Tyria, probably 50%+ of that in pre-searing. I got Factions the weekend it came out, and I have yet to finish it with a single character. The only Canthan character I've kept is my Rit, and she's at Divinity Coast as of last night (left for Tyria after not playing her for several weeks because Cantha bores me).

That is almost exactly the same as me. I don't spend that time in pre-sear but my PvE time is 95% Tyria. I just didn't get into Factions. Sometimes I get in the mood for Cantha, but for the most part I enjoy Prophecies a lot more.

No, but if you don't like pre-searing you can skip it completely. At least you can SOLO pre-searing. Your lvl 1, wander too far you find lvl6 bosses that kick your ass in Cantha. Then you go back, get henchman. Pwn that boss, travel around, take ages killing Tengu. Go to the next area, get the shit kicked out of you by your first double damage ele boss of the game.

You can get from lvl1, pre-searing character, to Droknars, buy your high level armour, get power levelled and be ready to do some interesting missions within a day. Or perhaps not bother with the power leveling, do a few things normally and use henchman (they got my lvl6 Monk through Ice Caves, to Granite and to the SoJ boss after all).
Cantha? You wander around the island, completing necessary quests. Do the 2 missions, 1 of which is EXTREMELY boring, even Ruins of Surmia isn't that bad having to stand around and wait for Rurik. Get to the Zen Daijun mission, do it, get owned by that ****ing Miasma. Struggle through it... turn up in the Marketplace at extremely low level because you skipped all the fed-ex quests. Get killed by every single group because your low level. Go through tedious primary quests for the 3rd time. Your still at a low level because you seriously can't be arsed to go through the damn fed-ex quests again (come on, Ascension at Augury Rock gave us 50k exp, if we weren't lvl20 by then, we were afterwards). You then finally reach Arborstone. Get driven insane by the Citidel Collapses (ok its not that bad a mission, specially as my last Alliance trip there yielded me a Sapphire ) constantly interrupting you (think it interrupted Marksmans Wager 7 times). After all that... you then need to hoarde 10k Faction, although as its your 3rd character you probably have 10k saved up to stop you having to waste time again.

There are way too many irritating things about the Canthan mission set. They just weren't designed the properly suit the new professions. Eternal Grove and Gyala Hatchery and prefect for the Ritualist, the MM, the AoE ele and tanks. Assassins have no real use in the majority of missions that another class couldn't fill easily. Just look at Raisu Palace, the enemies have that much health and armour an assassin does jack shit.
THK was inadvertantly designed to perfectly suit the assassin. Mursaat are incredibly weak to there spikes, specially as they have no healing skills.

Yeah, I play Prophecies more than Factions. Almost everything about it is more fun; the only advantage Factions has is the armors. I even have a Ranger that I keep recycling through Pre-Searing, just because it's the most beautiful area in either game and I love just going for a walk in the woods or doing some catacombs exploration (I STILL find surprises in there) without having to worry about hordes of monsters higher level than me descending to ruin my day. Shing Jea is pretty enough, but you can't say the same thing for it. As for my high-level characters, well, Sorrow's Furnace is still the best area in either game; loads and loads of fun, a hundred different things to do, breathtaking scenery, tons of nasty enemies, lots of cool loot. What more could you want? Nothing else in Prophecies matches it, to say nothing of Factions.

i just farm in cantha and FoW and UW, dont really do much more in prophecies cause ive made like 12 lvl 20s in prophecies and i sick of it, as for cantha ewwww i couldnt take going through those quests again, so many restrictions with gates and stuff, i dont know about all of u but i am so ready for nightfall, new weapons, skills, armor, everyhting, more freedom as its by the same devs as prophecies and pve based
