Horrible lag and frequent d/c
Bethany
Ever since the big update, my framerates have gone down, I'm lagging like hell (sometimes mini-lags with 2~5 seconds of freeze and sometimes longer, up to 25 seconds and more, leading to err:7). When that happens, my character and everyone in the team stop what they're doing and go into idle (team members and monsters alike), no one moves and time passes. Then, when everything un-freezes, everyone is either dead or light-years away. I tried to compensate by lowering my video settings but to no avail (I used to play with everything maxed)
Couple that with the delay it takes when activating skills (1/4 to a full second) and you can guess the frustration it creates. I tried to compensate by lowering my video settings but it did very little. It's sad, considering I was playing with everything maxed and everything was fluid. It infuriates me because I'm trying to get my second monk to finish the game and under these conditions, it's absolutely unplayable. When everyone counts on you to stay at full health and people keep dying because your screen is frozen for long periods of time, it leads to a failed mission quick (and I won't mention some monk abuse from idiots who think I'm making this up).
To make sure the problem wasn't on my side, I have tested my DSL Ultra connection on various websites. I picked several places to insure a good ratio.
My machine is a P4 3Ghz with 2Gb of memory (DDR + dual channel) with a Radeon X850XT
www.bandwidthplace.com clocks me @ 4.4mb/s
www.speakeasy.com clocks me @ 4.3mb/s
www.dslreports.com clocks me @ 4.186mb/s
www.auditmypc.com clocks me @ 4.216mb/s
myspeed.visualware.com clocks me @ 4.320mb/s
I've also tested on the www.quicktime.com website by downloading several movie trailers. I can view the trailers almost instantly.
The results clealry show that my connection is tuned up. My boyfriend plays Battlefield 2 (on the same comp) and other online games and he doesn't get any performance issues whatsoever. I believe the culprit here being the latest, massive GW update or ANet servers that are incapable of handling the current traffic of GW.
I was thinking, when the online store came up, of buying a couple more character slots but seeing the poor performance of GW, I decided against. My GW gameplay is at a complete stop and I don't intend on returning or getting Nightfall until these performance issues have been solved. In the meantime I'll hone my skills with Titan Quest ( a gift from my bf who was afraid I would mash the keyboard down to a molecular level while playing GW).
So, am I the only one experiencing this?

Add the -diag flag to your GW shortcut. Let it run and send the report to Anet via support. It won't help much now but it will allow them to track down network issues. You can use it to see where the problematic hop(s) are.

I too have been having the same problems

Me too!
Exactly the same issues as your first two paragraphs.
I know its not my computer/graphics card or connection...
Before the weekends big update I played with everything maxed, even my AA at x4.
Ive tried turning all that down but to no avail.
I find it ludicrous that people should have to lower their graphics settings to play!
However the fact that there are so many people experiencing these exact same symptoms, all bought on by the weekends updates... suggests to me its a game issue Aanet! So please stop sending me on self diagnosis tests for my pc and connection grr!

Graphics and framerates have nothing to do with network lag. Nothing at all. Nada.
Run the game with the -perfs flag. It will display the frame rate, bandwidth used, and another number, I don't know what that one is. When you get a lag spike or slow down due to network issues your frame rate will remain constant. But the bandwidth used will drop to 0.

I too have been experiencing a lot of lag lately. As well as the daily D/C that has sprung up in the last week. Like the OP said, this can be a major PITA if you are the Monk. But I think “Gabe3” in his thread “Getting Error Code=58” located in this Forum might be onto something. There might be a link between this error & the antivirus software.
Recently here at work we installed the latest version of Norton Corporate. This started causing serious problems with the software I write. We had to revert to the previous version of Norton to avoid me having to do 6-9 months of rewriting my code in another language.
At home my Wife & I are both using Norton. I have 2005 and she has 2006. We both get the same problems when playing Guild Wars. My wife’s Sister & Husband do not use Norton and are not having these problems. We are all usually on together & using Team Speak, which is set up on another PC on our network. The 2 of us get bounced from the game, but can still talk with the others who are wondering why we stopped healing them.
So, if there are others who can confirm this, as well as propose a solution/work-around with GW & Norton. Please fell free to chime in. I’ll look into this when I log in tonight. But that is several hours from now.

I get something that sounds pretty similar. Character comes to a halt. I may be able to turn in place, but can't otherwise move. It does not seem to be the basic internet connection (I have DSL) for I use Team Speak and have been chatting away with guildmates while this goes on.
IIRC after getting kicked from GW I can log right back in. No problem.
I have experienced the lag in server updates -- run along, make the turn around some stairs or a rock and *bang* be stuck as if I cut too soon and ran into a wall or obstruction (the update changes my position on the client so obviously I ran into the wall). The casting/skill lag was nasty too. I don't recall it happening too recently or often but that might be bad memory on my part.

Nah, it's been happening all over, all my guildies have been having the same issue and it's sporatic, doesn't happen even to 2 people on the same network in the same HOUSE!! Has to be a server issue...

I have been experiencing problems too. I am choppy when running, and when I do any battle the screen frezzes until it is past over. My game ran smoothly until the last update. I hope anet fixes this.
swiftygem
I'm having exactly the same problems, random lag, rubberbanding movement, lag in skills activation, labels above people in mission outposts appearing incredibly slowly....and I run BF2 flawlessly as well.

ya .....the game lag when you use skills and always d/c when i was going into different districts......

You are preaching to the choir. I have had bad lags with the freezing ever since the updates around the time of that stupid store. I know several other people having the same problem. There is no way I will buy Nightfall with this problem. I can't play GW at all right now it is so frustrating.
Yuan The Painful
well... does anyone have any ideas on how to help solve this problem, or is there anything we can do to absolutely make sure its not on our ends? i ran a pingtest, and the connection was stable... im so confused, and its really pissing me off.... i am on satellite tho, but before this weekend/store it was perfect... so..

Try GvG'ng to get your guilds rank up. The team was all over the place, people where error 7'ng, and I would drop dead for no reason (or so it would seem).
I tested everything except anets servers. If they would be so kind as to provide a user name and password. I will cheack for them too.
The update brought horrible lag. Downloading the update was fast (maybe a different server).

Me too. Had my mesmer all the way to the end of Captured Son.
Every bad guy dead. Loot galore and I freeze up --- 30 seconds and counting then gone
The worst was last night in Arborstone of all places to lag out at the end---
So ppl die and you are monking????? Ugly
I sincerely hope it is fixed before the elite mission weekend.

I have the same exact problem, and its really quite frustrating, because I just bought nightfall and i cant really enjoy the game with all this constant lag, and low FPS. I ran gw fine for the past 1 1/2 years, with max settings, graphics, sound perfectly well. Until the big update that is. My Fps was at a constant 50+, now its down to about 10-30fps.

Same problem but from firts NF preview before i run all max perfectly i've a PIV 3.2 2x512 corsair Ati x1600 PRO 512 ddr2 PCI-EX and all other game like bf2 all maxed goes fine...so i hope they will fix all this bug or GW is dead for me
