I played both, including the R/P pre-built and i have to say the counters for both classes are there already. A couple of things that might need to be done for balance.
Paragon
•Rangers w/expertise - Again Rangers take the prize with Expertise! Now not only lowering the cost of (e) but also increasing the fire rate. Simply put, even bunny thumpers don't put out that sort of DPS with hammers. There for sure need's to be something done about Rangers and expertise, very simply make expertise apply only to ranger skills. No class carries that sort of enhancement bonus to a secondary as much as rangers. Overall though, R/P's are fine the way they are with easy counters, Chain Aegis, Wards, Blinding, Line of Sight... Etc..
•Armor - Please don't change the armor level of the paragon, thats all i have to say on this. Even though ALOT of people were very concerned with it, i think it's going to be a nice extra for the paragon as a strong supporting class.
Most people don't or haven't even seen the pure support potential that the paragon TRULY has. The shouts and chants are friggen amazing additions to the game! I saw no-one even looking into this untapped potential this weekend, which is a total shame!!!!
Dervish and AoE
• Mystism Boost - No class has the e management like the dervish, this class screams of solo, it screams of runners, it screams of hammering AoE Spikes, it screams *Nerf Bat*. Yes the counter for most dervish Forms is degen/conditions/hexes, but when a single D/Mo can hold 4-5 people slamming them with Dmg, there is something majorly wrong.
•Massive Holy damage - How can we say this doesn't need a good smack with the nerf bat? There's no counter! The cast times are super low, the recharges low, the e costs are low, strip em and the get health and e bonuses... Pretty much, unless you have a paragon running shouts for defense, + a rit spirit-spamer, there's not much you can do againts these raging holy spikes. Even with both running, the DPS is still massive.
I think that both classes power and potential is awesome, i think for sure that spear rate or damage reduction is in order (spears even without tigers fury, seem to have a much higher rate then hammers and are ranged). Two thumbs down!
I'm actually not complaining about either classes, I can make a D or P and take advantage just like the rest (and did). My time with them was fun, but now it's time to take a good hard look at what a-net can do to make them a bit more challenging to play.

Well, I definately do not agree with you on making expertise affect ranger skills only, it would reduse diversity.
