Elite Weekend Event August 4

Great! I haven't done either elite mission. I'm looking forward to getting my feet wet, so to speak. Guess I'd better go cap echo then, since I don't think arcane echo is all that great.
To those of you experienced at elite missions, please give us noobs a helping hand. You might be surprised and find some versatile, adaptable people. Or at least, people who will listen to what you tell them. (like me)

I'm not overly excited, since you can get into either of them at almost any given time . But still, double rare drops and all that, probably will result in a temperary drop in prices for zodiac items.
Ashleigh McMahon
Does this mean Urgoz/Kanaxi will be dropping 6 items now? Or does it simply mean a better chance to obtain yellows?
Thanks

I like the idea for this event, maybe I'll finally get around to checking out those missions
I wish they did a similar event for Fissure of Woe/Underworld as well.

It's the same ingame, and you should actually consider yourself lucky that all the expensive things in this game have a less expensive alternative. The only "advantage" people who play and farm a lot have, is that their pixels look better then those of people who dont play as much.
I'm sorry for my rant, just had to react on that post.
Back on topic now
I think the fact the elite missions will become more crowded is a good thing, as there are almost never any people arround to form a group, let alone a group that can actually finnish the mission. This will make a nice change i hope.
The double rare loot drops on the other hand are yet another way of ruining the allready poor economy in this game.
So maybe the next step could be to drop ecto's in pre searing so that everybody has a chance to have a FoW armor, after all its not fair that only people who have spent so much time farming get the privilege of wearing such an armor right.
ps. one paragraph contains a tad of sarcasm

Well what about managing directors and mangers? they do less work then the people that actually make money for the company ie the workers in a warehouse for example but still earn lots more money
Everyone is entitled to their opinion though and maybe like life, the game is slightly unfair in this aspect.
I agree there is a poor economy in this game which is caused by farmers in my opinion, i have taken 4 characters through both GW games and 1 through just factions and do you know how many greens dropped for me? Zero lol
In fact i can only ever remember one instance of a green item dropping in just nomal everyday play going through missions with a pug.
Does that sound fair? is the casual gamer even getting a chance of getting a good green item?
Spellforge
I'd like to suggest something controversial.....
Maybe in the long run this will cause the prices of elite greens from these areas to go up
Let me explain
You'll have groups of 12 level 17 assassins
You'll have ineffective wammos
etc
Those who have the experience are not going to join PUGs that are mostly inexperienced. I suspect you will get the same number of groups actually getting to the end and the greens but a lot more groups not getting past the first couple of parts.
These players will the realise how hard it is to get greens and be willing to pay more for them.
I wouldn't say the same for the rare golds though as experienced farming groups will be storming the missions , raiding chests and getting 2x as much rare loot to sell
but they will still only get 3 greens if they fight to the end (will be more effecient for them to just do chests and increased monster drops)
I'm keeping my perfect Zodiac Hammer and Kanaxai's Mallet. I don't play to have a large pile of gold. I play to have have fun and these 2 items remind me of a very good PUG that stuck together and finnished it together

you got a point there, i have only had my first green drop a few weeks ago as well. But then, i havent been trying to get any neither.
But thats what i meant. you can remake any green in the game with a collector weapon + weapon mods, and ranted, some may become expensive, others wont be quite near as expensive as the green.
I do think its fair this way, people who actually take their time to farm the green, they deserve it. If it would drop anytime a boss got killed the economy would be even further down the drain.
But anyway, i shouldnt have posted in this thread, its not where this kind of discussion belongs.

More arguments for the ability to bring henches to the elite missions (and UW/FoW).

Oh - one more thing. I'll be avoiding the elite missions this weekend (my guild never has enough people in the right place at the right time to do these as a guild)
The 2x chance of getting a rare drop is tempting but the 10x chance of getting a PUG that doesn't work together or moans or doesn't listen or has quiters just isn't worth it.
Good luck to those who do try the elite missions for the first time
And to those who do and then stick with it after the weekend and learn how to do these missions and the teamwork invloved I hope you'll add to the numbers of players doing these missions regularly.
PS. Although I play as a warrior I only take a necro or monk on these missions.
I'd just like to give my respect to the warriors who do these missions well. Their's is a difficult role and they are not the sterotype wammo , too much agro pullers
(of course everyone has their job to do but I know my warrior skills are just not up to this)

and this will give MORE players the chance to become "experienced" in those areas. cause ahole players always bitch and moan when you are not "experienced" there. I have 2 mil xp on my main warrior and the guy tuned noob cause it was my first time. Big thanks Anet.

I think this will be good, most PUG's don't stick together, it will be harder for us people who use them. And I haven't ever ran one of these missions and i'm looking for a chance to prove myself.
Any advice from experienced would be extremly helpful, for whatever profession.....And thank you ahead of time

The truly good drops are few and far between, even doubled, until you make it to the end and kill Urgoz/Kanaxi for a chance at one of their goodies. I'd love to say a 1 in 12 chance, but I don't think I've ever finished with a full group. (not that that's a bad thing).
Its great to offer this via Kaineng actually, kind of a litmus test IMO.
As far as PUGs go, wouldn't it be great to have titles for Elite Boss kills so you could select a group with some certainty of skill and even moreso commitment ?
Slayer of Urgoz/Kanaxi - 1 kill
Destroyer - 5 kills
Decimator - 10 kills
Lord - 25 kills (max title)

you guys think that having more rares items in circulation will affect the price of ecto? if so which way more expensive or less?

Cap - As far as Obsid armor goes, either get everything all at once, or get nothing. Peicemeal Obsid looks like you are poor and trying to be rich. (Sorry, but it's true.)
Fem Tarror - Echo is crap. Useless waste of an elite skill slot, since you asked. Elemental + Fire attunement far outweighs the energy savings you will EVER get by using echo. And with Double attunements, you can cast pretty much infinately (except in enchant removal room, but that is the easiest room to beat).
The build I run is:
Incend Bonds
Fireball
Rot Invoc
Archane Echo
MS
Ele Attune {e}
Fire Attune
(Optional - I use Aura of Rest as a covering enchant for my Attunements)
DO NOT BRING FIRESTORM OR ANY OTHER AOE SKILL THAT DOES "DAMAGE PER SECOND" EVER IN THE GAME EVER.

I really don't understand why Anet will do this event... If you really wanted to you can go to the deep or urgoz for free. The double gold drops will make the value of current items go down. This is the first Event that I am NOT looking forward to.

Lol man...but the point of elite missions are EXACTELY, hardcore gaming experience....i mean, i dont see a cassual players willing to spend 3hs on the mission and still have a VERY litle chance of getting sumthing worth (either urgoz greens or a good gold drop).
And for the event itself, i DO NOT think it will overflood the market, simply because the chances of getting a GOOD gold drop will still remain the same, and the green weapons will still drop 3 at a time, so the green weapons will remain the same price as well...
The only good thing i see about this event is the promote of the elite missions, and for the "first - timers", you guys would do better to just give up on "getting rich" whith the event, the missions are STILL hard as hell and longger then anything else on Guild Wars, so, they are not made for people like you ^^
Later.

Hmm... looks like ANet is moving away from Tyria to Cantha once again.
I don't mind the fact that you can go to both elite missions from KC. I don't like the elite missions much anyway. (Too many leavers/error 7s)
I actually like the double gold drops. I don't sell things to people much anyway. Unless its perfect in everything and the merchant will buy it for 300 gold. I don't ahve the attention span to sell stuff so this will help me get 'good' items.
I am concerned about the noobs that will go into the mission at level 12.
I know I won't accept/invite them.

Some of us casual players want to have a go at these missions to see what they're like, to explore the place, not for the drops

K...
I would say I am a seasoned verteran of the elite missions. I have completed more times than I can count, etc etc.. and tonight, fearing that the staging areas would be full of new players... (noob in a nice way)... I was NOT LET DOWN.
Two tries and complete and utter failures because of the shotgun ineffectiveness and lack of preparation on the part of several of the party members, inexperience with the environments and even trying to teach them was rewarded with "how much longer.. i have to take a crap" etc...
In other words... I won't be partaking any further in this weekends events and hopefully, these noobs won't camp here after..
GGFTW
Edit:
I don't know what these people are talking about, double gold drops. Absolutely nothing gold dropped at all, chests were all gold, but were the same items as usual, straws, waywards, etc.. And only one each. It's double green drops at the end.

Curse You
I agree with shadowfell. This event is a overblown chance for you to realize that most people can't figue out simple things like: "Don't use firestorm!" or "Don't wand the Oni!"
People were saying that the Green prices are going to drop. I believe the opposite. It's now so hard to find a good group, the prices may in fact go up.
I have seen countless people standing in International District 1 yelling out "Why Anet, why?" or "Noob LFG". At least I know that most of the people there are somewhat experienced.
So now I ask, was this event called for? Is it just a bad attempt to make items from The Deep and Urgotz cheaper? Maybe they thought that the fact that normal groups have about a 50% chance, of sucess was too high. Now we're lucky if a group can make it past the Leviathan.
That's my rant on this rather pointless event, Ted my Mini Necrid Horseman, will take any questions.

i was pretty stoked about this weekend, i thought rare loot would drop twice as often. apparently the term "rare" in this case applies to "unique/green" items at the end of the mission.
all in all, i am very let down by the event, but happy that they listened to the players that requested an alternative means of access.

this event is a joke alas new players too the missions dont know what in the bejeebus to do and how to actually have a chance of beating it (i'm one of them) its yust like hey lets annoy all experienced elite mission players with a bunch of newbies!

Wow...you know, you decide to do something nice, allowing players that normally don't have access to the missions to try them out...
...and you get nothing but complaints from those that are "experienced" in the elite missions.
Shows that you can never truly please everyone, as there is always SOMEONE that has to complain about it.
For those that are experienced in the missions, I would suggest either:
1. Be patient and try to teach those inexperienced players that you're complaining about HOW to do the missions more efficiently. Organize and lead your groups. If it's obvious that someone isn't willing to listen before you go in, kick them out.
2. Just don't go into the elite missions this weekend. There are plenty of other things to do that won't irritate you.

And you have the Elite newbies crying that they're not getting any treasure. I haven't done an Elite mission yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Why? Because it's the one thing I haven't done in GW yet and I look forward to the experience. I don't need to get tons of rare loot. I've been playing long enough that gold isn't an issue for me anymore. I just want to have fun.

I think this is a great opportunity for everyone to get more exposure to
things in the game, sure there are going to be alot of frustrations, but
take a little time and answer some ppl's questions and help make them
better players.
I still remember my first time thru Tyria when I got to TOA and I did not
know what they place was for, ppl were trying to form teams and I asked to
join one and was asked if I was ascended, I asked what is ascended, no reply,
kind of makes you feel like an outsider.
I make it a point to never do this to anyone, and this is not the time to go
flashing your stupid "bambi" and calling in-experienced ppl names you will only
be hurting the game and also real ppl's feelings.
Be nice and maybe Karma will drop the perfect weapon for you.......

The event started last night too. I went to the Deep and saw huge group of players waiting to get inside. I can't wait till tonight to see what kind of drops i can get from elite missions. So double gold drops? meaning two gold items being dropped at once? Anyone seen or can confirm that?

I just want some worthy loot for doing well in a hard mission :/

Quite frankly, it *is* awful. I don't blame ANet; I think the weekend is a great idea. HOWEVER, it has once again demonstrated how low the lowest common denominator can be...

I'm pretty sure it just means you have double the chance to get rare loot.

1. Double the number of greens that drop at the end of the mission during the event.
2. Chests in the mission apparently are yielding nothing but gold drops, instead of a mix of gold and purple.
Neither of those have been confirmed, but that's what I've seen posted on a few forums now.

NO DOUBLE GREENS AT URGOZ.
same drop rate through the whole mission, I guess they forgott to change the drops. lol
And chest's are same, 2 gold chests to every purple chest
