I blame FOW armor.
If that didnt exist, the rates that players sell for would decline dramaticly. The prices between high-end and low-end items would be closer reducing the ridiculous pricing issue. People would stop buying stuff with ectos. It just makes sense.

The most i ever sold was on a nice Gothic Defender. 100k+ xx ectos is everywhere. All the items especially those that is perfect mods or rare skins have this kind of price tag on them.

As for the "WTS ______ for 100k + #ectos!!!!!OMFG!".. I tend to ignore those because I'll never buy an item for more than.. let's say 60k. But I will occasionally sell in cities because of the number of newbies that are there. Some of these might be 13 year old or many ebayers because you know something is wrong when you can increase the price of an item from 100k to 100k + 5 ectos.
