a monk that has 55 health by using superior runes to lose health and a -50 health icon, then using protective spirit to take 5 dmg a hit

its not really meant for pvp if thats what your thinking. its mainly a farming and in some cases a running build.

its a special build people use to solo farm
5x superior runes = 105hp
+ -50hp grim cesta = 55hp hence the name 55monk
since protective spirit lower all damage down to 10% of ur max health all damage is only 5. With mending + healing breeze on u can easily regain that health

Backfire's Dmg is reduced by Prot Spirit I Beleive And you can time around Enchant Strips.
Mesmers only hard because most pack Interupts, which WTFPWNS a 55 if the enemy is too good at it.

Hence why the location to 55 is carefully chosen in the farmer's favor- lots of enemies and no unfriendly skills nearby. Examples are the troll cave outside Droknar's Forge and the minotaurs in the beginning area of Elona Reach.

little more versitle is an understatement. i have beat propechies with my 55 from start to finish. if you get good even if there mesmers and necros around u can deal with them fairly easily. 
as 1 of my favorite spots had lots of mesmers in it. till they removed the great golden chests
