I have a bad habit of clicking one song, and it cycles through jet audio, non-stop, for an hour or so..
Right now, it's Chris Isaak - Wicked Game... Before this..Placebo - I Know... and I think an Audioslave song snuck in there...Oh.. and Apoptgyma... All pretty random.
But on average.. hands down.. Tool and Pink Floyd for the masters.. and the win

As for GW, a lot of songs work while pveing. In pvp, my favorite ones are:
John Williams - Duel of the Fates (totally awesome, dl if u dont have it)
Carl Orff - Carmina Burana (O Fortuna) (remember Excalibur theme, that's it)
Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise
The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack (several themed songs)

I love listening to epic soundtracks while playing GuildWars. Sadly, the GuildWars Soundtrack itself, as nice as it may be, lacks epic feeling.
Examples of Soundtracks i listen to when i'm playing:
Advent Rising (a really great game with a nice storyline, superb sound and gameplay - crushed by the media so bad that it's sales stalled into nothingness)
Call of Duty I
Chrono Cross (Theme)
E.S. Posthumus (a really nice alternative band, used to be an insider for quite a long time but is rather popular now - you can listen it up on youtube somewhere, just know how to search for it )
Fable (Theme)
FF7 AC (The Soundtrack just rocks )
Ghost in the Shell (for those quiet moody evenings)
Republic Commando (Yes i know, Star Wars Game. Bad bad commercial addicted stupid star wars kid, bla bla yadda yadda. The amount of abuse you nowadays get for mentioning Star Wars is insane. Anyways the game and the soundtrack rocks. You can get it for free from the official Republic Commando site)
Sin City
Prince of Persia Warrior Within (Godsmack did the Soundtrack for this game and that quite shows - it's powerful, fast and great. You can get this Soundtrack free and legally from somewhere on the Internet)
And the full packet of music from Bill Brown (also available for free on his Website. If the name doesn't ring a bell, maybe games like Undying or Ghost Recon will)

With the amazing score by Jeremy Soule, why would someone want to listen to external music while playing?

Retribution
Still no one mentioned breaking benjamin I'm surprised how unknown they are, some of their songs like Firefly and Follow Me are so kickass I wonder why they didn't become the next mettalica or led zepplin because of them.
!!!nexus!!!
I have listened to the song "Follow Me" by Breaking Benjamin and it is off pitch in a minor chord and it misplaces an octive with a hermonica if you listen closely. That is probalbly why nobody listens to it.
Electric Sky
Nelly Furtado - Maneater

A variety of things,
if I'm in an RP mood ... any of the LOTR soundtracks. They fit the mood of the game perfectly for PvE adventuring.
If I'm PvP'ing, anything from Lamb of God to Death by Stereo.
Powermetal like Dragonforce or Blind Guardian, etc. etc.
Then typical stuff, RX Bandits, Spoon, Radiohead, and Broken Social Scene.

What I listen to is pretty much on my profile here.
http://www.last.fm/user/SamuelDravis/
Collective Soul, Black Lab, assorted other rock... I occasionally listen to the actual soundtrack, but not often anymore. It is good, but I liked the original music better.
