I guess it's to limit bandwith use - half the time this forum is too slow to even show pages as it is.
I know this is a free site and all, but it's been horrible to navigate for a loong time.

Not had a database error for a while, instead it's usually it's the white 'error loading page' screen.

The lag in this forum is just the worst. It's been going on for a quite a while too, what's the deal here?
DC_Ross_Dark
The deal here is probably cause by all the threads like this stating the blatantly obvious.
Silent Kitty
We used it to much, causing the forum to time-out
Inde
The search is temporarily disabled. We are indexing the site to bring another solution. Yes I know about the lag, yes I've acknolwedged it repeatedly I'll keep you updated as much as I can.
awesome sauce
So can't you re-enable the google search option?

OK... is it still being worked on? I mean, if I hit the search button, and use the "advanced search", I now get a short criteria search 'powered by BoardTracker' or some junk. There's nowhere to search for posts by members or anything. Is this intended? Or maybe a placeholder? (god I hope it's a placeholder)
Not to mention, if I try to 'find posts by this member' by clicking on a member name, most notably myself, I get a message telling me I don't have permission to access this page. I'm certainly logged on, so that's not it. It's just not letting me do much of anything.
What's going on??

So it's intended that we can specialize our searches anymore? And it's intended that we can't find our own, let alone anyone else's posts?
Seems a bit archaic.
EDIT: Honestly, the old search was the main reason I came to this forum. If I can't find my own posts, what's the point of posting? Sorry to say, but I can't stay.

Well before you ragequit the forums, consider that this may only be temporary and that we may be considering options yet unexplored in regards to site improvement.
I mean, we don't exactly find enjoyment in limiting users' options. Laughing at PMs, sometimes, but not anything that directly affects users.

I would just like some way of clicking in the user panel to view a certain number of my last posts. It will help with keeping track of questions or price checks that we may have, as opposed to having to dig through 12-20 pages to find it. On another note, I'm not sure if it just hasn't been run through the mill yet or not, but the power tracker...doesn't find much.
Inde
You can easily find your last posts and last threads. Simply Ctrl + F from the main forum page and type in your name it will find your name in the Who's Online. Click on your name and it pulls up your user profile, you can easily just click on the "Find all posts by -----" and "Find all threads started by ----" from there in your user profile.
You can also subscribe to threads that you are bidding or selling in.
Loralai, the board has not been completely indexed yet Quite a task to index 1.6 million posts.

Zephyr Jackson, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: 1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? 2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. good game, i really dont think u guys want me to get my perfect skelly sheild... Inde
That's interesting, because I had several people try it today and it worked for them no problem. I'll look into it.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/search.php is what you're trying to access, which is from the dropdown search box at the top. The link should be fixed to the following soon:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/searchbt.php is the one in the yellow link at the top, which does work. Saider maul
I have to say you had just fixed your search problem but now this new one absolutly sucks. plus all my watched treads are gone so i cant fine my sale items posts.
Please fix this soon. Inde
We clearly had not fixed the search problems, just because it was re-enabled and the google one off doesn't mean anything has been fixed. We are working on solutions, trying new things out, feedback is appreciated but if it can't be anything more constructive than it "sucks" please don't post (and Saider not just directed at you, at least I see some new information in your post there with the 'watched' threads). Harsh yes, but I will not read through 20 posts of "it sucks" trying to comb through what problems people are having and what features are missing they would like to see returned.
We are here, ready to make changes and see what we can do. So give us what's working for you and what's not. Here's what I see: Basic search is improved. It doesn't just return the thread title but gives you where it's found in the thread. Helping you find that information faster. Advanced search is the problem. There are currently ways to find your own posts and others. Either selecting your name in the Who's Online and going to your User Profile. Or using the Memberlist to search for someone's name and going to their User Profile that way. Both ways are not something that someone is going to think of right away and are not straightforward. I don't know about 'watched threads' yet as no one gave more information so I'll look at this. Possible solution is to keep the new search for basic, and to re-enable the advanced search. Could be the best of both worlds here. Wrath Of Dragons
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. Im not sure if "find all posts by..." is back up and running, but this is what i am getting. and my subscribed threads are still there, but they were there before recent search changes if you need people to act as guinea pigs with things you need to try out, just pm me. id be happy to help Lasareth
I've got a user account for my own abuse which I test these things with sometimes I'm just slow though.

search was running fine for weeks. the first time sense i have been on here i was commenting on the new search. And sorry i am blunt no better way of describing it.

When I search the forum for keywords or posts by specific users it wont display anything.
Also when I select a users name and choose to view all posts strarted by that indivual, it tells me I dont have permission! Wrath Of Dragons
ok, looking at the search that we now have (not "all posts by.." but the standard search) i searched a few things and found that it doesnt search the posters username, but does search the title and post.
for a temp fix on the "find posts by..."(just an idea, i dont know web programming at all) could you do a forced signature, that puts the posters username as a sig automatically? bart
I'm getting the same message:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? 2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. GIVE US PERMISSION!!! Hockster
A few suggestions, not sure if they can be impemented though. I'm assuming that most searches are for users to find their own threads. On that note:
1. Totally disable search. It seems to be nothing but a huge resource hog. Working, seachless forums are preferable to the alternative. "I can search! But there's nothing to find, the database has crashed again." 2. Set everyone to automatically subscribe to threads they start. Put a page that everyone gets, once the first time they login after this is instuted, describling in big crayola styled letters how to find their threads, and how to subscibe to other threads. Make them click a yes I understand button before proceeding to the forums. If they don't get it after that, well...... If it would help, have all subscriptions deleted after 30 days or so. Maybe 14, many threads are long dead by then. 3. Would pruning year old (or more) threads help at all? I know a few VB forums that do that in order to compact the database. I assume that takes load off the server, especially on keyword searches. I can't see a scenario where needing a thread for 13 months ago is needed. Anything critical can be sticked, perhaps in a hidden archive section. Inde
Some good ideas Hockster, thank you. I don't know about completely disabling search but the others I'll talk through with and see what we can implement and do.
kzap
Search is a problem because it causes us heavy load, so were trying out a new search engine designed specifically for forums like ours, its called Board Tracker - http://www.boardtracker.com/ , so far they haven't indexed all our threads but they will and we are working with them closely, I will implement a type of view all threads by user, and in an upcoming version you will be able to search by forum, but for now you can't.

Ever since the new seach has been implemented i've only been getting results from the "Ventari's Sell" Section. Is anyone else getting this? because it's pretty annoying ><
Pandora's box
Its still not possible to find your own posts by getting into the account screen. Like mentioned above: we don't have permission for that. I hope this will be fixed soon because this is one of the most used features on the board. Without it its virtually impossible to keep track of our own posts
mighty xxl
My problem with the new search method is that if you try to search more than one word it returns nothing.
For example i tried to search this: firey dragon sword Result: nothing. Same thing if i searched for more than 1 words, results are 0. This Board tracker doesn't let u search more than 1 word? Delillo
When I click on "View All Posts" or "View all threads started by user" from a user's profile page I get this message.
++++++++++++++++++++++++ Delillo, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. +++++++++++++++++++++ I used to do this all the time. What's up? Clearly viewing all posts from a user is not an administrative feature. DC_Ross_Dark
can anyone clarify about this?
