Lately Ive been playing around with Glyph of Essence and REALLY found it to my liking. The best way to describe it is 'they never knew what hit them'. The premise is you use the glyph, deal some big damage in a way that isnt a spell, then immediately follow it up with a big spell nuke.
So I came up with this chain:
Glyph of Essence + Frenzy + Devastating Hammer + Crushing Blow + Fierce Blow + Phoenix
Now, this combo will totally deplete your energy, and not just because of Glyph of Essence! Fortunately, Devastating Hammer and Fierce Blow are all based off of adrenalin.
The normal hammer swing takes 1.75 seconds, and KD with stonefist lasts 3 seconds. However with the IAS from Frenzy hammer swing time drops to 1.166 seconds. That means you can get two hammer attacks off with an IAS before they get back on their feet, with .666 seconds left... not enough time to cast Phoenix without the glyph, but plenty with it. To prove my point, in that image at the top I used Aftershock. (16 Hammer, 4 Strength, 12 Earth)
Phoenix does 166 damage at 12 Fire, and gives you the opportunity to use Conjure Flame. It adds 13 damage at 12 Fire, and while that isnt much keep in mind Vampiric Hammers only give you 5 damage, and Sundering gives you ~20-25 extra damage when it procs, a 20% chance.
When you add that with Deep Wound, the combined +63 from attack skills, +39 fire from Conjure Flame, 166 damage from Phoenix, and base damage times three from a Hammer (~120)... you get around 488dmg + 20% hp/healing reduction... and a dead monk.
