I have done a little research on this topic and it seems that once a guild name is used it cannot be reused even if the guild disbands. I know that a character name has a 60 minute reserve put on it (you can delete a character and for the next 60 minutes noone else can use it.) What I am proposing is that they do something similiar for the guild names. Make it so that the guild name is tagged to a persons account for a certian amount of time to be reused by said person. Once the time limit for the name has been hit release the name back into the general public. This will do 2 things: First it will free up space on A-Nets servers so that more and better stuff can be added and Second it will make players think twice about disbanding a guild.
I will leave the time limit up for others to discuss biut I think it should be at least 3 or more months. That way if the person wants to rebuild his/her original guild they can. Also have it so that a person can reserve only a couple of guild names, to keep players from just creating then disbanding the guild to keep the names they want. Set it up so that there is a list of names that the player has on reserve so that when the players goees to make a new guild they are asked which guild name they wish to remove from their personal list. This can be done at the guild register to keep things simple. Also this will keep players from hogging names.

Guild Names remain reserved, even if a guild disbands? I can't imagine the logic behind that.

They need to be released to the public, great idea Mega Mouse. Two paws up!!!

I didn't know that it was reserved myself.

Are you surethey are unuseable after disbanding? Because I think I remember remaking a guild with teh same name before.

Here is the quote from NC-Soft themselves:
Are there reserve timers on guild names?
As you may know, there is a 60-minute reserve timer on character names. If you delete a character, you must recreate a character with the same name within 60 minutes, or the character name goes back into the "pool" and may be used by another player.
Such a timer does not apply to guilds, however. There are no reserve timers on guild names, because there is no reason to delete and recreate a guild. Therefore, once taken, a guild name is no longer available for the foreseeable future

I researched this because I want to reform my original guild but can't do it due to the names not beign released.

Strange, I disbanded Knights of the White Eye and reformed it again.
Maybe it only counts if they have the same name AND guild tag (I changed the latter from KOWE to HINA)...
