Feel bored playing Guild Wars at times? *discussion*
huMptY DumPty
I have been a pretty active guild wars gamer for the past 11 months. I've been into various guilds with different goals, and such.
Despite the amazing appeal this game brought to my sparetime (as with millions others around the world), at times I do have trouble finding an exciting thing to do in game. My trends change like every month. One month, I might be farming a lot with my 55, or plain green farming with friends, chest running and such.
Next month or so I would probably do lots of RA, TA, GvG, HA ~~ pvp stuff. Here and there I would go AB and FF...
I generally reach my goals fairly quickly. Had Friends of Kurzicks title within 5 days, reached rank 3 with IWAY in a week and a couple of days I think, collected money for various 15k armor sets. At times, I'm completely *obssessed* with these ideas. Afterwards, I feel sick and tired of doing the same thing over and over again. Then, I would go on a downtime, of plain cluelessness... Stopped guild wars for about 3 months during winter 2005... Back early this year... stopped again for a month and a half... Funny enough I tried quitting this game few times but only to be even more excited coming back into the game.
Anyways, my point is do you guys often get bored and just have difficulty trying to find something amusing to do... What keeps you guys playing this game? or does one must eventually let go of things?
I hope I've explained my point of discussion clearly.

If its a short term boredom thing I go for a bike ride, have a work out or do something ese that gets me off the screen
If its long term boredom because I feel I've done all I can do I only play if requested by guildee's or my GF (she's got a mean ranger thing going on.)
After a while I'll get to thinking about a new way to play or charachter class to master.
I do know that downtime aside I'll be here when the servers finally shut down and we lament the loss of a game we all loved at one point in time or another.

I'm just reviving my love of the UW and FoW again =/
Nothing else to do, honestly.

i get bored all the time...but its usually because the character i want to play is stuck at some point in the game i hate...(current case necromancer in desert)
but i usually start doing random things to get back into the game, try weird builds ive never used before for PVP(<3 found my mesmer build this way) or just make characters for pve and eventually delete them haha...

I'm going to be shallow (and most likely stupid) and say more things that go bling and are shiny keep my attention. I have my own private stash of trinkets in my Xunlai (like the "ice" for making the Warm One a Cold One!).
For example, I REALLY liked the Dragon Arena. It was fun, fast like the regular 4-on-4's in the random arenas, and it let me do things with my characters that I don't normally get to do (ie, run around nekkid weilding a candy cane and a cookie). It sounds daft, but we need more opportunities to break out and just have a lot of fun instead of getting so frustrated when you're stuck with a bad party for a bigtime mission or when people take it so personally when you choose Luxon or Kurzicks. I seriously had a lot of fun with the Dragon Festival, it was just as fun and much more organised than the Christmas and Halloween events I think.
Granted, there is no real grind save for frustrating missions you gotta keep retrying over and over, I still get the sensation of "the grind". Maybe it's just cognitive dissonance sometimes. At which point, it probably is a good idea to take a break from it. The best part about that is... NO MONTHLY FEES! 8D
Now with the ability to purchase new slots, there's more of an opportunity to do things out of your normal gameplay.

To be honest, as much as I love the game, I do get a little bored at times...
Generally, it is at points that I can't complete because of a lack of cooperation with other players...
I try to relieve some of the boredom by either farming Runes at North Kryta Point with my Warrior, go Orders/Minion Master with my Necromancer in Tombs of the Primeval Kings, or trying to sell the one Glob of Ectoplasm that I haven't been able to sell for the past month and a half.
However, if Guild Wars is completely boring me, I might either play Blue Burst on my PC, Ocarina of Time: Master Quest on my Gamecube, or Street Fighter 3 on my Xbox...
That, or I might watch random videos on YouTube... (Dysfunctional Hearts if so damn funny)

I get bored too. Either I dont play anything for a few days & veg out on the sofa in front of the TV, read a book, or maybe play a bit of UT2K4 or HL2-DM.
Amity and Truth
Everything naturally wears down after a while. Especially Games. They are not meant to keep you forever. Even take some Online Roleplaying Game (with Focus on Roleplaying) where every day is somewhat different... and you still get bored by the game.
I bet many of the folks who bought Chapter 1 at Release and even more of those that were in the Betas are no longer playing the game. And i also bet that many of the folks who bought GuildWars half way, will probably stop playing shortly after Chapter 3. People who only bought Chapter 2, will probably hit the quit button by Chapter 4. The problem is, *WE* are overplaying the game. We're playing it way more than it is meant to be played.
It's nothing to blame anyone for, it's just the natural process behind everything. You can entertain yourself for just so long and the day when not even your best friends can keep you playing is coming for sure.
HOWEVER, that's the single most advantage GuildWars has to offer. Just leave it alone for a few months, do something else, play some Singleplayer Games etc. It's like buying a book. You read it, you want more but the next chapter of the book is not yet written. So you wait a bit, you maybe read it a second or third time if it is decent book but what then? You put it on the Shelf. No problem. And as soon as the next chapter comes out you immediately buy it, devour it, tear through it's storyline and maybe even re-read the first chapter again to backup some of the facts from before.
That is the way GuildWars is meant to be played. I've even found a really old article about GuildWars in an old computer magazine back when it did not even have a name and the developers explained their game as some sort of monthly Novel.

if I get bored I just dont play, its always there when I need it lol. I barely am able to stick with a game (other than CSS) until after I finish it, but Guild Wars has kept me going for more than a year now, which is crazy to me. Its the only game Ive really cared about in recent time. If I get bored Ill usually just either play something else if were talking solely about computer game boredom, or ill just take a break from teh computer for a while if i feel like its abosrbing my life.

I got bored and just left my char around the Guild Hall all day and chatted to friends back when I was in a PvE Guild and this PvP Guild that had just turned PvE. And at that time I hated PvE. So there wasn't much for me to do.
I don't know why but I spent hours doing nothing.

I personally have found about 5-6 things that I love to do, and I rotate them on a regular basis to keep things fresh. This has done a lot to keep me from getting "bored" with the game...
1. Soloing the Factions campaign with my Ritualist, without henchmen. Doing it solo really makes you appreciate every accomplishment, mission and quest in the game, and really absorbs you in the storyline, as each milestone is really hard to obtain.
2. Doing the IDS run solo (again without henchmen) with my W/Mo. One of the most challenging things in the game, especially after the damage reduction nerf.
3. Joining a B/P team in ToPK with my Orders Necro. Still gives me a rush in the second level when you are being attacked in the valley by the Grasps and Dryders at the same time. It's also nice going from an attack role to a support role.
4. Joining a 5-man Orozar team (i.e. Sorrow's Furnace) with my SS Necro. I do this more for the scenery than anything, but I have to admit that the last phase where everyone is attacking Orozar is a complete blast.
5. Soloing the Dunes of Despair mission with my W/Mo (again without henchmen). This is simply for the challenge - I can successfully complete the mission about 1 out of 20 tries solo...which makes doing it an incredible feeling.
Then there's always hanging out in Marhan's Grotto, dancing nekkid in the Marketplace, and monitoring the trade channels in Lion's Arch and Kaineng Center for good deals.
...and all of that is JUST PvE related!

Yeah, I get bored of GW too. I am PvE-only, so these days I need to be creative to get my interest up. I certainly dont feel like playing the missions and quests anymore. I dont really feel the need to try and collect more weapons and armor skins, as everyone has a 15k set or what I wish them to have, as well as a full suite of various weapons. I've no real urge to collect titles.
I used to do a lot of running when bored. The gameplay of running, and the challenge, is actually a lot of fun. Takes a bit of skill to be quick and efficient, as well as competent in certain areas. That used to be appreciated and I had a lot of fun meeting people and chatting with them while doing that. Sometimes that would get me playing too. Lately runners arent treated as well, so I dont do this much anymore either. Still, its the one fun thing I do from time to time when I want to log on and see what is going on in GW.
The other is of course UW, but that's dwindled for me a bit too since I am not really motivated any longer by collecting more ecto. Just leads to another armor skin and I lost interest in that. The gameplay in UW is fun though, so I hop in there from time to time.
Currently waiting on Nightfall to see what play elements are added to PvE. I do a bit of running here and there simply for the fun of it. Keep up to date on the forums. Play another game when I need to etc, like most others have said here.

waiting on Nightfall as well but i dont think it will revolutionize the way we see and play guildwars so in a couple of months after Nightfall is release another one of these thread will pop up again.

i also know how you feel BUT i went the whole way and did the /uninstall thing, i gave away my account to an in-game friend...however due to the fact that i have nothing else to play i reordered the game...cant wait to get started on the ascalon missions again..well kinda
im going to play the game differently this time..no droks/grotto runs no running period ect just going to play thru the game slowly but with the added experiance of having had done nearly every mission/quest before
my suggestion if you are REALLY bored...delete all your lvl20s and start from scratch...that will keep you going till nightfall arrives

I have been in this mode for little while now, I went and got my lvl 2
treasure hunter title, and have learned how to run pretty good, but even after getting
a few titles for my toons, the excitement of it wears off pretty fast.
I am planning to learn some pvp now, but I think that is going to be a
challenge to get guildies to try, our guild loves to AB and FF but not gvg,
so that is my goal for now.

Personally.. if you got bore.. if you start questioning the purpose of playing.. than just don't play.
Go on vocation (to other games) for few days or week, and if you get that tingling feeling of wanting to get back to the game again, than that is great, and if not, just go on to play other games, and come back when there are new things, or just to chat with old friend.
Keep in mind that GW is meant to be casual, and should be kept casual.

yep pretty much done with guildwars until nightfall.. factions was cool.. there's alot of neat things as far as skill points and xp powerleveling you did'nt have before and that made a pretty fast campaign.. it took alot longer to get what you wanted in prophecies across characters.. but basically had a nice base from the old game comming in too- unlocked all skills and elites in no time- it was alot easier to cap.. really liked the difficulty when factions was released- but the braindead will have thier way as usual lol the pve game's way easy now but that's my opinion
I hope nightfall is on par with the difficulty factions had on release.. had a blast those first couple weeks I was bent on the assassin being a non pve character until I made a nice assassin's promise build that owns pve with henchmen.. so all classes are pretty much viable- overall good 2nd game without the droves of idiots that infest it (again my opinion- it seems to me alot of players get right off the short yellow bus and seem to have an internet connection)

I'm in one of those downtimes now.
Every time I load the game up I can't think of anything to do.
I suck at PvP and my computer's slow so I lag like hell when I try it, so there's no improvement going on.
PvE bores me because I can never get anywhere due to the ridiculous mobs in some places, I try, but I just can't. Even with henchies, I'll get just beyond the mob, the henchies die, and the mob turns on me. I don't have builds that protect me in every situation possible, so it's hard, for me anyway.
Right now, I'll load the game, delete an unused character and make a new one just becuase that's the only excitement I'm having at the moment; creating characters. Eventually that will get boring, becuase I'll have made them all, and used up all the names I could ever think of.
If I had an easier time getting money I'd be enjoying it more, cause right now I have one piece of 15k glads, and 8k left. It's going to take me FOREVER to get that, and I don't have the motivation to do so anymore.

I haven't played in days, and I just really don't want to atm... It's a downtime for me I guess. I've done everything I can and pretty much cleared UW with a full guild group last time I was on (that was interesting - I'd never been that far).
Still hope to one day clear FoW, but other than the jungle, forgemaster, and what ever that temple place is way out in the boonies down there, we just haven't had the time. I mean heck clearing most of UW took 5hrs or better and I never got a single ecto drop >_<!
I've done the deep, but not the Kurzick elite mission yet, maybe we'll do that this weekend.... Usually if I get too bored I delete my pvp char and start over in presear ascalon, but I've done that too... My sin is as far as I care to force her... I've beat factions on at least one char and nearly on another - the others I don't care to try beating factions with. The rush of factions doesn't appeal to me much.
I've been playing freecell when I'm not working on wedding plans or atm Mahjong >_< Even nightfall doesn't have much appeal for me, as factions really seemed to be a letdown (I play for the pve aspect).
I was kept out of the core GvG group because I get bored too easily so my hubby said I was unreliable lol. It's true tho. *sighs* I've done the farming thing, but hours of killing things nets me lots of money and still more boredom (all my prophecies runes are unlocked now >_> on both accounts <_<).
Oh well back to Mahjong for me! Probably do some gunbound later. Thats always a good time waster!

That's such a nice game... I actually played that thing for two months ... got to silver axe rank... and dropped out since I got introduced to Guild Wars: Prophecies by my friend.

I get bored every once in a while, but I still play almost every day. I have a character of every class, so by the time I get bored of one class I am generally ready to go back and play a class I haven't played in a while. Constant updates and new events on the side of A-net also keep me interested.

I'm bored too, the only things that is keeping me going is 15k armors for all my characters, beat faction at least twice, and maybe get r3.

I think that really, as far i as i can see from all these threads, is that the root of the boredome is coming from anet itself. They made the game somewhat shallow in my opinion, but awsome while it lasts. Sort of like a 1/2 inch thick pie, sweet but hardly enough..mmm...pie....
On a serious note, yes i firmly believe anet can expand this game and make it greater, deeper and better. For instance, maybe add on to the map, add more weapons, or maybe a bunch of new skills(create a skill, hint hint). Frankly, times like these is when i actually want to switch to grinding games, because there is actually something do to when ur bored. LVL up for no reason lol, but if ur having fun doing it why not?

I haven't played ina bout 3 months. I've been on only to get updates and check to see if any of my characters have recieved their birthday gifts. That's about it. I haven't even finished Factions with any of my characters yet. I guess I got burnt out after doing a 3 day push to get to Vasburg and then spent 2 more days getting the amber for 15k War armor. After that, I really haven't been into the game at all.
