Feel bored playing Guild Wars at times? *discussion*

I have been a pretty active guild wars gamer for the past 11 months. I've been into various guilds with different goals, and such.

Despite the amazing appeal this game brought to my sparetime (as with millions others around the world), at times I do have trouble finding an exciting thing to do in game. My trends change like every month. One month, I might be farming a lot with my 55, or plain green farming with friends, chest running and such.

Next month or so I would probably do lots of RA, TA, GvG, HA ~~ pvp stuff. Here and there I would go AB and FF...
I generally reach my goals fairly quickly. Had Friends of Kurzicks title within 5 days, reached rank 3 with IWAY in a week and a couple of days I think, collected money for various 15k armor sets. At times, I'm completely *obssessed* with these ideas. Afterwards, I feel sick and tired of doing the same thing over and over again. Then, I would go on a downtime, of plain cluelessness... Stopped guild wars for about 3 months during winter 2005... Back early this year... stopped again for a month and a half... Funny enough I tried quitting this game few times but only to be even more excited coming back into the game.

Anyways, my point is do you guys often get bored and just have difficulty trying to find something amusing to do... What keeps you guys playing this game? or does one must eventually let go of things?

I hope I've explained my point of discussion clearly.

If its a short term boredom thing I go for a bike ride, have a work out or do something ese that gets me off the screen

If its long term boredom because I feel I've done all I can do I only play if requested by guildee's or my GF (she's got a mean ranger thing going on.)

After a while I'll get to thinking about a new way to play or charachter class to master.

I do know that downtime aside I'll be here when the servers finally shut down and we lament the loss of a game we all loved at one point in time or another.

i get bored all the time...but its usually because the character i want to play is stuck at some point in the game i hate...(current case necromancer in desert)
but i usually start doing random things to get back into the game, try weird builds ive never used before for PVP(<3 found my mesmer build this way) or just make characters for pve and eventually delete them haha...

I'm going to be shallow (and most likely stupid) and say more things that go bling and are shiny keep my attention. I have my own private stash of trinkets in my Xunlai (like the "ice" for making the Warm One a Cold One!).

For example, I REALLY liked the Dragon Arena. It was fun, fast like the regular 4-on-4's in the random arenas, and it let me do things with my characters that I don't normally get to do (ie, run around nekkid weilding a candy cane and a cookie). It sounds daft, but we need more opportunities to break out and just have a lot of fun instead of getting so frustrated when you're stuck with a bad party for a bigtime mission or when people take it so personally when you choose Luxon or Kurzicks. I seriously had a lot of fun with the Dragon Festival, it was just as fun and much more organised than the Christmas and Halloween events I think.

Granted, there is no real grind save for frustrating missions you gotta keep retrying over and over, I still get the sensation of "the grind". Maybe it's just cognitive dissonance sometimes. At which point, it probably is a good idea to take a break from it. The best part about that is... NO MONTHLY FEES! 8D

Now with the ability to purchase new slots, there's more of an opportunity to do things out of your normal gameplay.

To be honest, as much as I love the game, I do get a little bored at times...

Generally, it is at points that I can't complete because of a lack of cooperation with other players...

I try to relieve some of the boredom by either farming Runes at North Kryta Point with my Warrior, go Orders/Minion Master with my Necromancer in Tombs of the Primeval Kings, or trying to sell the one Glob of Ectoplasm that I haven't been able to sell for the past month and a half.

However, if Guild Wars is completely boring me, I might either play Blue Burst on my PC, Ocarina of Time: Master Quest on my Gamecube, or Street Fighter 3 on my Xbox...

That, or I might watch random videos on YouTube... (Dysfunctional Hearts if so damn funny)

Everything naturally wears down after a while. Especially Games. They are not meant to keep you forever. Even take some Online Roleplaying Game (with Focus on Roleplaying) where every day is somewhat different... and you still get bored by the game.

I bet many of the folks who bought Chapter 1 at Release and even more of those that were in the Betas are no longer playing the game. And i also bet that many of the folks who bought GuildWars half way, will probably stop playing shortly after Chapter 3. People who only bought Chapter 2, will probably hit the quit button by Chapter 4. The problem is, *WE* are overplaying the game. We're playing it way more than it is meant to be played.

It's nothing to blame anyone for, it's just the natural process behind everything. You can entertain yourself for just so long and the day when not even your best friends can keep you playing is coming for sure.

HOWEVER, that's the single most advantage GuildWars has to offer. Just leave it alone for a few months, do something else, play some Singleplayer Games etc. It's like buying a book. You read it, you want more but the next chapter of the book is not yet written. So you wait a bit, you maybe read it a second or third time if it is decent book but what then? You put it on the Shelf. No problem. And as soon as the next chapter comes out you immediately buy it, devour it, tear through it's storyline and maybe even re-read the first chapter again to backup some of the facts from before.

That is the way GuildWars is meant to be played. I've even found a really old article about GuildWars in an old computer magazine back when it did not even have a name and the developers explained their game as some sort of monthly Novel.

if I get bored I just dont play, its always there when I need it lol. I barely am able to stick with a game (other than CSS) until after I finish it, but Guild Wars has kept me going for more than a year now, which is crazy to me. Its the only game Ive really cared about in recent time. If I get bored Ill usually just either play something else if were talking solely about computer game boredom, or ill just take a break from teh computer for a while if i feel like its abosrbing my life.

I got bored and just left my char around the Guild Hall all day and chatted to friends back when I was in a PvE Guild and this PvP Guild that had just turned PvE. And at that time I hated PvE. So there wasn't much for me to do.

I don't know why but I spent hours doing nothing.

I personally have found about 5-6 things that I love to do, and I rotate them on a regular basis to keep things fresh. This has done a lot to keep me from getting "bored" with the game...

1. Soloing the Factions campaign with my Ritualist, without henchmen. Doing it solo really makes you appreciate every accomplishment, mission and quest in the game, and really absorbs you in the storyline, as each milestone is really hard to obtain.

2. Doing the IDS run solo (again without henchmen) with my W/Mo. One of the most challenging things in the game, especially after the damage reduction nerf.

3. Joining a B/P team in ToPK with my Orders Necro. Still gives me a rush in the second level when you are being attacked in the valley by the Grasps and Dryders at the same time. It's also nice going from an attack role to a support role.

4. Joining a 5-man Orozar team (i.e. Sorrow's Furnace) with my SS Necro. I do this more for the scenery than anything, but I have to admit that the last phase where everyone is attacking Orozar is a complete blast.

5. Soloing the Dunes of Despair mission with my W/Mo (again without henchmen). This is simply for the challenge - I can successfully complete the mission about 1 out of 20 tries solo...which makes doing it an incredible feeling.

Then there's always hanging out in Marhan's Grotto, dancing nekkid in the Marketplace, and monitoring the trade channels in Lion's Arch and Kaineng Center for good deals.

...and all of that is JUST PvE related!
