Build Saver
Pii
Greetings,
Here's an idea I've been thinking about for quite some time. I think there should be a build saver in the game, so you wouldn't always have to change all your skills and attributes manually in case you want to play different builds on one character. I have some basic idea of how it would work.
Since skills and attributes are always changed in towns and outposts, the builds could be saved on the 1-9 keys. As an example, I will use a necromancer. Let's say that I have an SS Necromancer. If I wished to play a minion master, I would only press ctrl+1 to save the ss-build in 1. Then I'd change all my skills and attributes morphing into a minion master, and use ctrl+2 to save that build as well. Then I could easily alter between the two by useing the keys 1 and 2.
Of course, the same build doesn't work for all purposes. Nevertheless, a build saver would be useful, since one could save the "core" of the build, and after loading it, make only some adjustments depending on the area one is planning to enter.
In addition to skills and attributes, the build saver could also save/load armor and weapons. Of course, they wouldn't be loaded if one has removed a weapon from her inventory after saving a build.
I suppose that's it, in a nutshell. In case there are some flaws in this concept, I'm sure the mighty game developers can find some other way of bringing us a build saver. Hopefully this thing is possible, and others think it'd be useful. Thanks for your time then.
P.S: The maps in the game should also show the percentage of explored ground for each area separately.

Love the idea of a 'build' saver...it is a pain when you go from a 'runner' to a 'troll farmer', and then forget to change it...
I think it changing the Armors&weapons is the flaw...it could mess up if you no longer have the right gear...
But otherwise...sounds good...

If you've got rid of the equipment saved, I think the saver would simply ignore that part. Then again, changing equipment is easy enough anyway.

this is something I would love to see espically for my necro I have so many builds written on pieces of paper on my desk its not funny any more

This is one of the most common requests for the game, it will be done (i hope) sooner or later, there is another thread with a very nice interface suggestion for that (a Photoshop work, but very well done).
A few weeks ago, in one of her appearances in game, I’ve asked Gaile about that and she said it will be done in the future...
I have 8 Chars with some builds for each of them, so I have a spreadsheet where i keep all the builds (id of the build, the skills, the attributes, armor, etc.), but is very annoying to change between builds.
For me this is the better upgrade that they could make to this great game.
Every time I download an upgrade of the game, I go to the upgrades web page in their web site, expecting to find that this was one of the upgrades.

It's been suggested loads before, and I always support it because I would love for this idea. I have to change builds all the time and I get so sick of it. But unfortunately I just don't think Anet will do this. It would increase the load on the servers even more, and they are already really laggy.

A feature like this would be very nice...even if they just released a seperate(free, please) program that would store everything client-side and maybe it could add a new option in the menu button for it or something....
Ah, that sounds nice to me :P

**UPDATED 8/04/06 - X to delete build added.
**UPDATED 8/05/06 - Removed the ridiclous arrows. Added F5-F8 series keys in place. Replaced original Build Titles with a clickie button to switch over to the build.
Keep'em coming.

I think that's a great idea! Cool graphic DawnsTide! I also have a bunch of builds that I switch between alot. Also people in groups don't like waiting for others to rebuild even if they asked them too (seen that happen to monks). If it could be saved client-side I don't think it would affect anet much. Isn't the UI saved client-side?

I don't like the idea of clicking the "X" to set the build, X usually means close or delete build. Should be a [set] and [delete] button.
Dawns Tide
Clicking the X would delete the build. You click the ghetto arrows to select your build. The skills that are on it were just random picks.
Jin Of Stealth
I like how it could be changed in the hero's window, very nice.
My idea was to get rid of the F5-F8 buttons that were useless as of now, and have them able to save up to 4 different builds...I like your idea better though

new screenie.. check it out

I would love to see this implimented. It would make me so happy I'd . I like the whole interface idea better than the 1-4 keys thing, but either one would work.
Genocide God
I had an idea like this also.
Mine differed a bit, I thought something more along the lines of something like the weapon sets, so it would be integrated into the guild wars screen interface.
But this seems more promising.

I would like more of an options indow than the keys, since every key on my board is assigned a specific task already except for maybe 3 or 4..

Updated... Keep the ideas rolling in.

I do love the overall idea, hate switching builds only to be told to do another.
Relambrien
Love this idea, and came up with one to address the "you don't have the equipment anymore" flaw.
When you click the build, it loads all your weapons, armor, attributes, and skills. BUT, if you don't have a certain weapon or armor, a pop-up window would show up that says something like this:
"The build saved as 'Name' uses a "Forgerunner," however that item is not in your inventory and so will not be equipped. There will be nothing equipped in its position."
Likewise, for armor...
"The build saved as 'Name' uses an 'Ascetic's Shing Jea Leggings of Superior Divine Favor,' however that item is not in your inventory and so will not be equipped There will be nothing equipped in its position."
Together...
"The build saved as 'Name' uses a 'Fiery Fellblade of Enchanting,' an 'Eternal Shield,' and an 'Ascetic's Shing Jea Leggings of Superior Divine Favor,' however those items are not in your inventory and so will not be equipped. There will be nothing equipped in their positions."
I have no idea how hard the build saver and this idea would be to implement. It could be as simple as adding a few lines to the code and some more client-side info or as difficult as a brand new code section with tons of lines and more server info.

I think it would only complicate the build set if it switches your equipment on top of everything else.
Same as it goes with weapons, you have your weapon set allready implemented into GW, so why bother adding this to a Build Set?

This is great. I get really tired having to sort through my notepad for the build I need.
Perhaps for the armor/weapons/etc. You could access the options menu to exclude those options. Because some might just want to use it for attributes and skills.

This is something ANet really needs to put in.
Awesome awesome idea, seriously.

It'd also be kinda cool if there were default builds built in, that you can toy around with. Like, the most popular builds for every class (A contest kind of like the weapon contest)

if this was to be client based, you could maybe import other build sets from other players, perhaps using a simple .ini file.

A build saver would be great, it could change the attributes too while it's at it, it's a pain to go from pure blood to SS or MM or whatever build I got going in my head that I wanted to try

Dawns Tide
any suggestions for improving the window?
Naqser
perhaps adding it to change attributes at the same time, and that you can edit it under the build
