Hey guys, like any nub that could be caught shopping in Best Buy I just happened to pick up Factions first. How was I supposed to know Prophecies was the first game released? I just saw GUILD WARS and thought to myself, "Yea, I could use a new MMORPG."

Hence the reason that I only have Factions. I noticed that most of the build guides in the Mesmer section contained skills such as Wastrels, I-Hex, etc. and that angered me because of course I'm not going to be able to use the primary skills that are required for the builds.

I'm open to any ideas. I mainly want a support Mesmer but would also like to deal great damage. The build I was using before I realized my mistake was the Jack-of-all-Trades Dom build in the mesmer section.

Has anybody successfully made an amazing mesmer using nothing but Faction or Core skills? If so, I would really appreciate the advice and could definately use it. I just love stealing other people's ideas! ;D (Actually, I'm just horrible at making characters).

Thanks guys!

And I at least made the effort to do some hard-searching before posting too because I realize how some of you guys would like to punch us newbs in the kidneys repeatably. Oh and just in case I didn't mention, this char will be 100% Role-Playing.

Actually, the domination line works better for PvE, although Illusion is good. I wish I could give you a build, but in PvE, your build is dependant upon how far you have progressed in the game. I can tell you however, that for almost the entire time you are on the luxon side, interrupt Mesmers will easily get you into groups^^ (Boreas Seabed, take power return and two other interruptes)

So the best thing I can do is this:
Don't take Illusion at all while you are in the city. Brotherhood + Expel Hexes will render you useless, go Domination.

I can give you a basic rundown of all skills on the illusion line:
Images of Remorse + Conjure Phantasm gives a cheap dual combo, and because of it's quick recharge time, you can spread this easily across multiple targets. The damage you will do at rank 12 is 174-218... maximum damage depending if Images of Remorse is hexed onto an attacking foe.

The other problem with illusion is that when you're in groups, a good group will kill a monster in like 8 seconds, so any maximum damage that you hope for degen will go to waste. Instead, skills such as clumsiness, Illusion of Pain (though you have to be sure that your group can kill quickly)... actually those are the only two skills I can think of.

For the domination line, Backfire will be your best friend against casters, and Empathy will allow you to spam self-damage across multiple targets. Just dont mix these spells, Backfire for casters, empathy for attackers. You can use empathy on casters, but backfire does a better job.

E-Burn and E-Suge give good spike damage, Shatter Hex is good to use to help your front liners while doing a big portion of damage against whoever they are attacking. If an enemy assassin made it past the front lines and places a hex on... well...you get the idea.

IMO, if anyone tells you to take Arcane Echo and Energy Surge... it's really a waste of energy... you can put your time into better things.

Just keep in mind... that after the Assassin, monsters always seem to go after you, so... learn to run around^^

Hmm... anything that makes you enough money to buy Prophecies and get the real cool stuff will be a good solution. Prophecies elites are waaaaay and I mean waaaaaay better than Factions ones. Excluding Keystone and Fevered obviously. OBVIOUSLY. Which Factions elites measure up to the rest? Expell Hexes maybe?
