Now that we can purchase additional character slots at the GW store, what is the maximum number of characters one can have on their account?

If by that you mean 32 at the moment then you'd be correct.

You can have 6 (Chapter1+Chapter2 key) +upto 26 buyable ones.

Math. The 26 was stated in some odd thing from ANet (forgot where I saw it, but I know I did as well). That's slots you can buy from the store. If you add 26 and 6 (4 from one game, 2 from merging with the other), you get 32. So that is the current maximum number of slots one can have per accounts. With Nightfall (when it is released) the max becomes 34, to my understanding of things.
