Avatar Size Limit too low?

I lately tried to upload an avatar from both a hosting site and my PC and the size for avatars now is 19.5kb? The one i have currently is 37.4kb as it was uploaded some time previously. I understand the change is for site slowdowns and stuff, but please. Even if i set the jpeg quality meter to 0 on photoshop the file is still 30-odd kb! I really don't want to have to go to measures such as making it a gif file

I have not heard of any complaints of an avatar file size on this board. I'm not sure what avatar you are uploading but a 30k avatar is a big file size for such a small amount of space. The file size for avatars has not been changed and is the same as it's always been.
