I just recently bought this card, and have had problems with it, after installation. The screen flickers every few minutes/seconds, and sometimes freezes for about a minute or a half, and refreshes itself. Also, While I play guild wars factions, The screen will flickr violently, giving off corrupt graphics. I have tried putting both monitor, and nvidia refresh rates at the same. It did not work. I uninstalled all the other drivers and disabled them exept for the GeForce one, and the problem still occured. I downloaded, and installed the latest drivers, and it did not work. I contacted NVidia tech support, and they directed me to a partner company, since their methods did not work. Please help me.

Thank you,
Kam

i had a nvidia 5500 before, and it had so many problems with guild wars, one of the main ones was when u opend ur invintory everything would be black, or not there, and the game would freeze for 30 seconds then unfreeze, then when u tried to change armors it would freeze for another 30 seconds, then unfreeze, and it would do the same with some other menus sometimes, it was very frustrating i suggest u buy a new video card i dont think the 5500 is any good for guild wars

The 5500 is fine for Guild Wars.

Just make sure you delete all previous graphic drivers and install the latest drivers for the 5500.

I'm using a 5500, and haven't had any graphics problems with Guild Wars. Make sure you have the most recent driver installed.

I am using a NVidia GeForce FX video card and am having trouble seeing some terrain features.

There is a known issue with NVidia GeForce FX video cards (GPUs) and driver version 61.77 when the user has changed "Image Settings" to "High performance". Some of the problems include missing terrain. The solution is to change your video settings to "High quality". To do this, follow these instructions: On Windows XP:
Open Display Properties control panel
Click Settings tab
Click Advanced button
Click GeForce "Version" tab
Select Performance and Quality Settings in left window
In the Global Driver Settings window select Image Settings
Move the slider to the right to "High quality"
The video cards/GPUs that are affected by this problem are:

GeForce FX 5200
GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
GeForce FX 5500
GeForce FX 5700
GeForce FX 5700 Ultra
GeForce FX 5700LE
GeForce FX 5900
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra
GeForce FX 5900 XT
GeForce FX 5950 Ultra
GeForce PCX 5300
GeForce PCX 5750
GeForce PCX 5900

I'm assuming you got ripped off by walmart? since that store still carries those cards

anyway it's fine, change your graphic settings to high quality on the GW menu by moving it all the way to the right or click auto detect, download the latest drivers and go to your NVIDIA folder and delete the old drivers, and go their website to download a registry entrie labeled nvtweak and underclock your card speed to 270Mhz since your power supply can't give enough power to your card.
Don't go for the minimum 250 watts on the box or else you'll have to underclock your card to use it correctly.

I had the same problem with Nvidia 5500 card. The only way to manage inventory was to use F9 which did not cause lag. This issue was solved at the end of spring by either Anet or Nvidia. Textures are sometimes screwed with GuildWars after loading a map (especially GvG), but you can solve this by just taking a screenshot (hold shift key and print screen), which fix the texture problem.

Besides that, the game was running good with the 5500 card.

I used to have a 5500 back in the day, and it worked perfectly fine. Lovitar has the solution to your problem with gw, but your real problem is that you just bough a 5500. I didn't think they even made that card anymore. Its not an absolutely terrible card, but it's really old, and I'm sure you could have gotten a newer, better card for the same price.

whenever i see someone about to buy an FX card 5xxx I spame the thread with DONT BUY IT I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE but I must have missed yours.

I feel ya man- I upgraded to a 5500FX last year... if you could call it an upgrade... I couldnt take it anymore, and got :

sapphire ATI 512MB x1600pro

and GW has never been more beautiful (i got the card to get oblivioin over 3 fps- didnt even think of GW at the time- I will not need a new GPU until I get a whole new computer)

I got it for only $$130 on newegg.com- good price, and it BLOWS AWAY GUILD WARS.

Sapphire x1600pro ATI, 512mb: I was living a lie without it. (the bus size is 128 bit which is good for GW, but for higher end games like oblivion, Id recommend getting a 256bit bus- although my Mobo is AGP, so I just got one of the best AGP cards I could find for under 200 bucks.)

When people say their FX cards run GW well- Id need to see some Frames Per Seconds meters in a screenshot to prove to me that they are running more than 5 frames a second....

5 fps should not be considered "good"

dont settle for these low end FX cards... they advertise a bigger memory than they can handle (you check the core speed??? somehow i dont think so....)

I get 40-60 fps, maybe 20fps in an 'Alliance Battle Lag Spike'

My Specs:

pentium 4 2.0 ghz
1 gb Ram
512MB x1600pro vid card
Soundblaster Live

Thats all you need for a seemless game experience^^ to build this computer would cost you like 300 bucks plus monitor lol.

My card Geforce 5700 Ultra ran GW fine at around 31 fps with about med settings.

But I know for the fact the 5700 Ultra and the 5950 were on a newer gpu core that fixed a lot of issues in the 5xxx line and the Ati 9xxxx series at the time beat them hands down. Only issue I had was "shimmer" aka backbground distance object disappear / re-appear in Temple of the Ages and some of the jungle zone but that was about it. To fix this I would have to go the older 5x or was it 6x drivers... (forgot) but since I play other games as well and needed newer driver for performance I let it be.

Try these drivers - http://www.nvidia.com/page/partner_c...d_drivers.html

They were running my 5700 Ultra just fine. Despite having "quadro" drivers, my 5700 Ultra driver was Microsoft WHQL signed and newer then the last 8x series dirver. If it gives you an error about unsupported cards, just cancel the install.

Running now Gefroce 7600 GT and zero issues using latest drivers.

It's a 256MB card that I recently bought for $19.99...kind of hard to find that price on anything over 128MB...

After reading this post (your other post was at the top) you can disregard what i said there. I ran GW on a go 5200 FX (64 mb VRAM) and it ran at a playable 15 FPS a 5500 is no less going to do the same (256 mb of VRAM or not). You have a budget nvidia card and you can optimize it by using the drivers supplied. It also sounds as though you may be having power supply issues, simply getting a 400 watt supply might change alot of the issues you're having. Please realize we are talking about a low-end card here and performance/render quality is going to suffer.

Okay kids, we're going to learn something today. AMOUNT OF RAM MEANS NOTHING ON VIDEO CARDS. Ram is cheap, and makes the ignorant think they're getting a deal, but in truth, more ram will not make a crappy GPU better.

Always research before buying technology: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/...l#video_memory
